Please don't tell me we are letting Emi go 😔.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a real shame, I really like him and in his interviews it's come across how much he wanted to make it at arsenal and I think he h a s done enough to be first choice with it up to Leno to dislodge him. But if arteta thinks Leno is still number 1 then it's fair to sell him, he should be playing regularly for someone, especially as he aspires to play for Argentina.

28 Aug 2020 20:03:46
Is Leno even fit?

28 Aug 2020 20:31:16
Exactly that. All three of you!

28 Aug 2020 21:14:45
It’s so harsh on GK, s but they just can’t be swapped like outfield players can. Sadly when it comes to you main keeper, to quote highlander, there can be only one. Saying that, I would probably play Emi. I love a big tall keeper who fills the goal in an intimidating way, and he fits the bill.

28 Aug 2020 21:25:50
Leno £100 000 a week EMI £25 000 a week. If we pick him ahead of Leno would have to improve his money . Unfortunately it’s business . He’s been very good but so has Leno. Before Brighton how many would have been fussed if he stayed. EMI wants first team football as AMN wants to play CM . Not seen as possible by Arteta. Real shame and not sure how united who are paying if figures are to be believed £500 000 a week for two keepers of which only one can play at a time will keep them both happy. If selling EMI meant getting Partey would you take it? We need to sell don’t forget COYG ( Don’t forget Leno was in our top three performing players before injury)

Ah yes Epping mate, " a war that lasts a thousand years, no mortal man can win this day "

At least Martinez got his day in the limelight at Wembley in the cup " it's a kinda magic "

28 Aug 2020 21:46:05
It woukd be a shame, a real shame but I have nothing but respect for Emi and if he's guarenteed first team football elsewhere then so be it. Leno is a class keeper and we have a very promising young lad in Okonkwo and also Matt Macey in the ranks. Would I rather see Emi leave or one of them because they're not getting the progression the feel they deserve. For me it's Emi 🤷🏻‍♂️ Okonkwo looks like a very good prospect.

Ah, It’s a great film G62, despite Christopher Lamberts incredibly dodgy Scottish accent, which was actually trumped by Sean Connerys even worse Spanish accent in the same film!

28 Aug 2020 22:37:59
Fair comment Sussex your right mate tough decisions will have to be made somewhere along the line if we want to spend elsewhere, mind you that won't stop fans moaning if Leno gets injured again or hits poor form :-)

29 Aug 2020 09:51:58
That’s a poor decision Leno isn’t as good IMO.

29 Aug 2020 10:22:05
I agree - very very poor decision from the boss although I’m not at training, watching and talking to goalie coaches. If we sort the defence then Leno’s number one skill “shot stopper” is less important especially as Emi is still good. The rest of the skills especially given our weaknesses = crosses, communication, comfortable on ball and most important his decision making and composure are far greater than Leno.

I would sell Leno and keep Emi - not emotional decision but I’ve been a little anti-Leno for a while rather than he’s a godlike player. I just don’t put him in the Seaman or Jennings category. See more chance of Emi being the better option given the direction and changes we are making.

If we continue to allow 15 to 20 shots on goal, let defenders sleep and don’t sort out CDM then Leno is the best option.

Just feel Leno has more weaknesses and silly decisions in his locker than Emi. Good thing is - they are both good keepers and it’s great to be in that position

Sending mind signals To Arteta to keep Emi 🤞.

{Ed047's Note - did you know we’ve added 3 new coaches to the team, Carlos Cuesta, who was previously at Juventus, Andreas Georgson comes in from Brentford and Miguel Molina who was previously with Atletico Madrid.

Freddie and Sal Bibbo having left. The Brentford guy is the new set piece coach but don’t know much about the others.

29 Aug 2020 10:43:56
I think like Sussex pointed out a decision had to be made one way or the other about Martinez and Leno and it comes down to the fact Martinez is easier to move on then Leno is which pretty much makes up Arteta's mind for him.

I guess it's a balancing act deciding who you can risk letting go in order to pay for the kind of players we need, let's just hope it's not a case losing Martinez and gaining yet another centre back :-)

{Ed047's Note - it’ll be interesting to see whose in goal later

29 Aug 2020 10:59:57
Agree totally SY, Martinez has more in his locker I’d say.

29 Aug 2020 12:36:34
Saw the appointments Ed, not really sure what it means though.

We have a corner special-ist - good but what about our entire defensive set up, communication and organisation? Will any of that change?

Last time we gained Cech and then a new coach. Now we gain a coach and his keeper. WTF

Can you educate me Ed on what these guys are going to bring to the table and most importantly - sort out our porous p#ss poor disorganised defence and CDM area?

#cleansheetcan’tbebeat.

{Ed047's Note - I’m like most not sure either as like many coaches no ones really heard of particular coaches.

A set piece specialist must work both offensively and defensively so that sure has to be a plus.

This season is Arteta’s big one, his real opportunity to show us he hasn’t someone about him.

I’m not saying we have to win the title but getting back into the champions league has to be the minimum.

Hi Ed047 mate, I'm guessing Martinez because I'm not sure Leno is fit is he? And I absolutely love the fresh blood being brought in on the coaching staff from lots of different backgrounds with lots of new and different ideas, personally I think it's imperative we discover a fresh new Arsenal identity on the pitch. I'm very much in favour of celebrating our glorious psst and those who were made that past possible off the pitch and love seeing ex Arsenal players as club ambassadors and match day hosts ect but when it comes to the playing side of things we definitely need new and completely fresh ideas from the outside.

{Ed047's Note - Leno is fully fit 62, he played in the friendly last week so it’s going to be a definite indication of whose 1 and 2 for me.

That is the most important thing mate, the complete mentality change and I like that Arteta is doing that by example with no easy rides for players but ultimately it’s on the pitch we need to see it and I think it’s starting to come.

29 Aug 2020 14:46:33
I think ultimately the only way to change things on the pitch is to change the thinking off the pitch mate and if you only ever surround yourself with like minded people who only see what you see and only believe what you believe you aren't likely to expand your knowledge very far.

{Ed047's Note - that’s what I’m hoping he’s doing bit by bit because we have been a soft touch for years.

Every club previously new they had a chance with us and whilst that still remains I think it’s not to the degree it used too.

One thing for sure, after our pretty tough 7 opening fixtures, I’d say we’d have a fair idea mate.

29 Aug 2020 15:15:49
Totally agree Sy. Based on performances, emi should stay - especially noticeable is the number of times he DIDN'T parry or drop balls.

That said, Leno had more games, newer to the club etc so not the same sample situation. For me what swings it is how much it meant to him and how patient he was - something to be rewarded.

Also that it would send s big message to the youngsters and first choice players that chances will come and if you perform you play.

Ultimately like has been said, there may be other reasons we don't know, so I'm not going to criticise whatever happens - I'm happy with either (preferably both! ) and I just wish both of them well.

{Ed047's Note - I’m with you Jim, would really like him to stay.

29 Aug 2020 15:28:18
I agree Ed047 mate, there is a way to go yet but Arteta is at least trying to sort our problems out and whether he succeeds 100% or not I can't see how we can possibly be any worse off for his trying.

{Ed047's Note - definitely mate!
