Hey Ed002 I hope you're well? I'm sure you've said on many occasions that monreal will leave and that it's time for him to move on, but I read that we are "desperate for him to sign a new contract to avoid losing him for nothing" is this nonsense or has our stance changed, thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Yes my expectation is that Monreal will leave and certainly Real Sociedad are willing to take him on. I am not really hip to contract discussions and would need to ask, but unless Arsenal wish to keep him there is no impetus for him to sign a new deal if Arsenal want to then sell him at a profit. If Arsenal start looking to treat players in such a way, then it will become harder to recruit players.}

1.) 01 May 2019 14:50:43
Thanks for the info Ed 😊.

2.) 02 May 2019 08:13:54
There were reports at the end of last season that the club were looking to acquire a left back, so it comes as no surprise that we are still looking at left backs, such as Tagliafico at Ajax. As far as Monreal goes, he will be 34 in February and has always lacked the pace needed for a top modern full/ wing back. He can fill in at CB as we have seen, which is a plus.
With players leaving this summer, such as Cech and Ramsey, others underperforming, simply not good enough or do not fit into Emery's methods, I believe that with a limited budget, particularly if we fail to qualify for nest season's CL, we may have to retain certain players, even if they are not ideal. Amongst these may fall Monreal.
We clearly need a CB, a wide attacking player and a creative mdfield player. With the reported £40m budget, I cannot see more than 3 signings, hence Monreal may have to be retained, assuming he wants to stay.

Seri to Fulham seems like a massive coup for them!

18 Jun 2018 06:27:01
Good morning eds, any news on adil?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anything new.}

1.) 18 Jun 2018 09:08:41
OK thanks mate.

01 Feb 2018 23:42:15
all the info i have seem on the length of ozil, mikhi and aubas contracts seems to be 3 and a half years, is this right? it seems mad to only tie down your record signing and the player you have broken your wage structure for to reasonably short contracts, we will have to give them massive pay rises again in 2 years or risk going through the same thing as we have this year all over again. especially as ozil knows how to play it to a tee.

1.) 02 Feb 2018 01:32:51
I think age might have a factor they are all approaching 30 so makes sense.

2.) 02 Feb 2018 14:52:01
Clubs are giving shorter deals as the wages have risen to such high figures and in the cases of Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang they will be entering their 30's during the term of their deals. The thing that makes no sense is the absurdly transfer fees paid for players that only have 3 and a half year deals. So Aubameyang will cost a combined total of around £87m in wages and transfer fee, for only 3 and a half years.

"Juventus have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign Wojciech Szczesny for €16m (£14m) . He is seen as the long-term heir to Gianluigi Buffon. (Sky in Italy) " interesting if true, i haven't seen much of him in italy anyone know if he's improved alot? if he has we need a replacement for cech in the not to distant future so that could be a mistake.

1.) 05 Jun 2017 01:00:01
Szczesny has improved massively at Roma and Ospina looks to be off. I reckon Wenger will try to keep Szczesny as understudy to Cech in the league and play him in Europe/ domestic comps, and look to replace Petr after the end of next season (just my guess) .

"Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka's yellow card against Leeds is being investigated by the National Crime Agency amid suspicions of a MAJOR scandal following suspicious betting activity into his booking"

Betting on a xhaka yellow isn't suspicious, it must be one of the safest bets you can make!

(I know the amount is suspicious)

1.) 18 Jun 2022 04:26:03
Maybe this is why he gets booked so much for unnecessary reasons …. ??
Just saying …!

2.) 18 Jun 2022 10:49:27
Hope it gets sorted quickly.

3.) 18 Jun 2022 11:16:34
IF and I do stress IF, he is guilty then it's got to be a life long ban from the game as anything short of that would put the entire integrity of Premier league footbal into question.

Innocent until proven guilty, so let's wait and see what happens.

4.) 18 Jun 2022 13:43:48
Yellow cards 52
Red cards 4
Fouls 263.

5.) 18 Jun 2022 14:05:45
Wasn't it the timing of the card that the bets were placed on (last 10 minutes, if I remember right) and the unusually high amount of bets as well as the size of the bets that made the bookies suspicious in the first place?

{Ed014's Note - it was apparently a £63,000 bet, he got it for time wasting over a free kick he kept messing around taking.

Think we were 4-1 up at the time.

6.) 18 Jun 2022 14:29:02
The investigation is on the referee, not xhaka.

7.) 18 Jun 2022 15:02:22
The FA have said they didn't investigate Xhaka. I've just watched the clip again and the Arsenal players seemed confused about what was going on. I think the bookmakers flagged it up as suspicious as there was a flurry of activity around 80 minutes.
I really hope they get to the bottom if it because if he isn't involved it must be horrible for Xhaka having this hanging over his head.

8.) 18 Jun 2022 16:38:24
Thanks Ed0014 Wesley and Sally.

Well if it's the ref they are investigating then it's even worse news for the game itself but obviously good news for Xhaka who deserves to have his name cleared if he's totally innocent.

63 grand on something so random seems very suspicious and hopefully it might lead to bookmakers thinking again about encouraging people to bet on anything and everything.

The game not only needs to be clean but needs to be seen to be clean.

9.) 18 Jun 2022 20:04:54
When you think about it guys, how many games have you watched where refs don’t book players at all despite wreckless persistent fouling?

I’m not one bit surprised refs may be fiddling when it comes to card counts because it’s something that doesn’t affect the outcome of the game but it’s a thing bookmakers have really promoted the last couple of years.

That ‘over’ or ‘under’ on yellow or red cards.

Very suspicious.

10.) 18 Jun 2022 21:27:06
The problem is Shambo there is no shortage of potential fiddling in the game if people want to see it.

A player giving away a totally unnecessary penalty, missing an absolute sitte, scoring a crazy own goal or doing a crazy back pass, a keeper letting the ball slip though his hands? Where does it end mate?

We all have to choose is the game straight or bent? I chose straight or there is no point to it.

11.) 19 Jun 2022 09:13:24
Tbh, I have a little “ in play” bet during games and the bookmakers often boost these things and if I’d seen that bet boosted on 80 minutes I’d have taken it.
I blame the bookies ?‍♂️.

12.) 19 Jun 2022 11:45:40
Hi 773 I'm with you 100% the bookies greed is the biggest and easiest problem to fix.

13.) 19 Jun 2022 12:19:04
There is no such thing as a poor bookie : (.

14.) 20 Jun 2022 07:06:15
As someone who has worked in the financial industry my life I hate it when the bookies adverts say “ we have multiple markets”. I tend to shout at the tv, It’s not a market, no exchange of goods or services are being exchanged, it’s just gambling, stop pretending it’s something else.

17 May 2022 17:56:47
I completely forgot about the Amazon documentary until I just saw an article about it ?‍♂️ what a stupid idea, it's going to be a car crash.

07 May 2022 21:06:37
That wasn't meant to happen! Come on Liverpool!

1.) 07 May 2022 22:01:08
Good result for spurs but i thu it doesn't change anything for us, we HAVE to win tomorrow.

2.) 07 May 2022 23:15:30
Stil plenty of potential twists and turns in the battle for 1st and 2nd as well as 3rd 4th 5th, even 6th 7th and 8th Eden mate.

I wouldn't write off Liverpool for 1st, United for 8th, or Wolves for 6th but as for the only question that really matters to us, If it came to it I wouldn't at all unhappy with 5th, I'd be absolutely deliriously happy with 4th and 3rd would simply be, unbelievable Jeff, unbelievable.

Given what's gone before in recent years we've had an excellent season no what happens between now and the final whistle after game 38 ????.

07 May 2022 19:09:42
Brighton can't believe their luck, Scunthorpe United turned up.

{Ed014's Note - woah eden that’s being a bit unfair on Scunthorpe! ??

1.) 07 May 2022 19:19:44
At least Scunthorpe had the excuse of playing their kids, an average age of 20, this is man u's best team! ?.

{Ed014's Note - I told them at the beginning of the season I wouldn’t have any of their squad and they were all saying it was the best one they’d had for years! ??

2.) 07 May 2022 19:21:18
?? nice one eden ?? but turned up when they played us ??.

If we are he just got a lot more expensive! ? But he might be a decent shout, I just hope we don't go anywhere near DCL, the guys basically not even bothering when Everton really need him.

Hi Ed, hope you're well, there's often stories of a club agreeing terms with a player without agreeing terms with the club, like just yesterday there was one saying Barcelona have agreed terms with lewandowski and now now need to convince bayern to sell, what's the deal with that? Surely that is tapping up?

{Ed002's Note - It would typically agreeing with an agent.}

I get what you're saying DG and I agree, I'm certainly not excited by the signing I wish him all the best and I hope he's a great signing but there's plenty more important positions need filling before it. But it's early days hopefully those will be addressed before the start of the season and then we can get excited, but if they're not, what do we do to show our displeasure? Riot? ?.

What difference do our standards make? They will sign who they sign, we can't affect it, no point worrying about any of it.
