Good morning Ed's.
Reiss Nelson has started 18/ 33 games at Feyenoord in the league in what has been a relatively successful/ standard season for the Rotterdam club.
Are you able to shed any light on whether Arsenal consider this to have been a successful loan i. e. that it has served its purpose and seen progress in his game?
Do you know what Arsenals overall view of Nelson is?
Does Nelson have a future at Arsenal, short and medium term or will he be sold in the summer?
Could he be seen as a successor to the much maligned (& perhaps underwhelming) Pépé who does sound like he is earmarked for the exit door?

{Ed002's Note - Reiss Nelson (RW/AM) May look to run down his contract next season. Arsenal don't have space for him in the first team but would like to extend and send him on loan again. Meanwhile they will look to add a winger which will push him further down the pecking order. Feyenoord would certainly take another loan. If he won't extend this summer, there will be opportunities.}

I'm pleased for all the fellow Gooners here who are excited for the new season - I am too.
I have been very much an "Arteta - Out" after the end of his second season and I remain to be convinced.

He has built a better squad and as an Arsenal lover, I want him and the team to do well.
I don't expect him to win the league next season, but I do hope for three things:
(1) For us not to be the team that lays down and breaks the losing runs of weak teams.
(2) For us to be at least competitive in all games - including against Liverpool, Citeh Chelsea and other smaller clubs like Tottenham
(3) For Tottenham to implode and Conte to flounce off mid-season.

I don't ask for much ??.

Beat Palace comfortably on Friday night and it's going to be extremely difficult not to get on board with the top 4 believes Max we all want it equally it's only how convinced we already are that separates us.

Just to help contextualise why I think Arteta is bang average currently, we have lost more games in the league this season than Brighton. More than Crystal Palace, more than Manchester United in their worst ever premier league season. We have had no "distraction" of European football. We spent £150m in the summer, with mixed results: Tavares, Lokonga have proved disappointing, White possibly OK but never at £50m, Odegaard, Ramsey and Tomiyasu definite hits and improvements. But remember it was Arteta who sold a brilliant goalkeeper in the first place. Six red cards this season, thirteen in total under his tenure. Not ideal.

We had high standards set by George Graham initially, then Arsene Wenger. We all know We her went on five seasons too long, meaning we have now endured a decade at least of under-performance and relative mediocrity, allowing the Spurs down the road to finish above us for the last four seasons, this rendering St Totteringhams Day obsolete from the calendar.
I don't think we have a divine right to win, I don't expect us to get everything right overnight, but we have dallied over managerial appointments when we could have had Conte for example. We could have had Ancelotti. We could have had Allegri. But no, we go for a rookie, a pretender, a huge gamble. With high risk, comes potentially high rewards, but if we equate this appointment in a business career, do you put gambles in charge of high profile appointments in your business?
No, you put proven winners there, and keep your gambles lower profile, less damaging if the gambles fail to come off, progressive and developmental if they come off and promote those at a later date to higher profile roles once they have proved themselves.
Arsenal didn't.
Arteta was such a gamble. He may, he might just still come off. And I hope he does, but it's on a knife edge.

Go, Mo.

Why don't we - myself included (although I have given him some support) - rate and value Mohammed Elneny more?

He's not eye-catching, for sure, unlike some of our wonderful midfielders like, er, Mr Xhaka, who rarely fails to catch the eye, but for mainly negative reasons.

I like Mo.

Mo should not go.

I agree, shame he didn't get his winners medal last night Cannon.

2.) 07 Feb 2022 21:13:37
Good squad player. that’s it.

3.) 08 Feb 2022 22:03:17
Couldn’t agree more. Cost us virtually nothing, is an international midfielder, doesn’t seem to cause an issue that he is not first XI, and works his socks off when picked or bought on as sub. Do I want to see him playing in CM away to Man City, no, that should be Partey and Bissouma if I had my way, but keeping him in the squad is a no brainier, at least until someone home grown is ready to come through and offer better.

Good.
That’s forty six squillion quid saved.
Along with money we haven’t spaffed away on Raphinha that’s about £100m we could use usefully, on paying off Xhaka’s contract and maybe buying someone we actually need, quickly, and at a fair price without the painful and ludicrous offer of two chicken-burgers and a large fries.

Before he’d scored four today, I’d take Jesus in a heartbeat. He doesn’t get to start that often in an amazing team. If think we’d be lucky to have him.

Utter waste of money Raphinha would be.
He’s a decent player, but £60m+ when he patently doesn’t want to be here?
We have Saka.
We have Pépé - who I still think has a future at Arsenal if only - somehow - he can get self belief coupled with consistency.
I’d rather we spent money on a decent holding midfielder to replace Xhaka, plus a left back (KT simply too injury prone) and a back up right back. Or, another striker to support Jesus.

Canon Max Farnham

{Ed014's Note - have to agree with you on that mate.

There’s still possible money to be made from Bellerin, Mari and AMN who were all back for the first day of training today.
