Why are we doing this?

Shkodran Mustafi 'rejects new Arsenal contract and plans to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season'

I'm struggling if Arteta thinks Mustafi, Leno, Granit or Luiz are the answer to any question while Ozil is never the answer no matter what.

Really struggling with the new Arsenal and I'm not liking or enjoying it.

{Ed002's Note - As I explained over the summer, it is not all about Arteta.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He’s the puppet ( MA ) that’s obvious to see.

{Ed002's Note - I just don't think any of you get what has been going on at all.}

26 Oct 2020 17:03:13
To be fair Ed002 I think your right none of us d have a clue what's happening with Arsenal right now but whatever it is its bizarre.

26 Oct 2020 19:08:50
Personally I’d rather luis than mustafi, mustafi try’s to make tackles in the middle of the park waaaaaaay out of position every time he plays just watch him he always drifts out of position.

Arteta and Edu's recruitment has been average at best. The only good signing they have made is gabriel. The rest are average at best.

{Ed047's Note - Partey included?

26 Oct 2020 17:16:33
Ed, I would love you to educate me if possible. I also remember Mikel praising Mustafi, Luiz etc plus saying how important Granit is. Mikel is not helping himself unless he wants to be a future puppet. Thanks for commenting as I always respect what the Eds say.

{Ed002's Note - The problem remains that the Arsenal fans simply turn to being abusive if there is any effort made to explain the true situation. We saw this over the summer which will very much limit what is shared going forward.}

26 Oct 2020 17:52:23
Ed would you explain please, no abuse from anyone will come. We all just really want to know because we love the club.

{Ed002's Note - Of course it will - we saw this in the summer.}

26 Oct 2020 18:35:35
But Ed we are not privvy to what is going on and I perhaps clumsily asked last week and gave options to which you said something else. I for one would love to know what that something else is but because of the abuse from some where else are we supposed to ` get what is going on `? Seems as usual a few spoil it for the rest . From your replies it seems it`s not China or pay cut reasons and Edu is heavily involved with another political reason the problem! Please put me at least out of my misery COYG.

{Ed002's Note - It is what it is now. I have tried during the summer to explain that what was happening would all end in tears - and it has. There will be changes to the playing staff going forward and maybe some of the protagonists will win out - or maybe not. Future income has already been gambled as I have explained. I would suggest that the supporters keep supporting and hope for Champions League football next season - which will certainly help financially.}

Being honest Ed it’s what goes on with results and performances that matter to fans, the club will only give snippets of information- does anyone on this site actually truly know what goes on? Of course not .

But fans aren’t totally stupid they can see that certain things are poor and very badly managed, trouble is this has gone for ever and a day, will it ever be corrected?

I think it was 62 who said we aren’t much different to Newcastle in terms of who we can attract- he’s not far wrong.

{Ed002's Note - Right, concentrate on the on field performances.}

26 Oct 2020 19:57:12
I think you are confusing abuse with passion and what comes from the heart, everyone at the club will come and go -! the fans remain to follow and support what’s left ED, I first went to Highbury in ‘73 and the are a huge part of my life, I’ve spent thousands following them, it hurts to watch schoolboy decisions be made by men who are paid a fortune.

{Ed002's Note - I try not to. The supporters did not want to hear my views in the summer. Why do they think they will differ much now?}

26 Oct 2020 20:04:11
Ed - we couldn’t be further away from CL football, something has to change - The worry is with the financial limitations we have it makes it very tough to get a squad capable of achieving the heights we got used to.

{Ed002's Note - CL qualification is beyond a goal.}

26 Oct 2020 20:04:45
Thanks Ed appreciate your answer! I was all good before last night then pissed off but guaranteed I’ll be up for Dundalk and United! Have had a pop at knee jerk reactions on here before and now I’m guilty! Can’t change your football team it’s the law COYG.

26 Oct 2020 20:14:43
Sorry Ed - think I’ve asked the same question again. Bugger. sorry.

26 Oct 2020 20:21:59
Punani, I was just thinking how some of our signings have been awesome but not looking at who did them. Tierney, Mavropanos, Saliba, Gabriel, Mari, Partey, Willian and Martinelli. At the time Leno appresred a decent buy. The club seem to have addressed defence and almost midfield. They’ve signed a couple of nice youngsters plus got PEA to extend. Think many would ( not me ) add Dani loan, Matteo and may be Luiz as good signings ( I’d say useless) . Add a poor Pepe signing that ate our cash, a stupid wage bill - why do you think signings have been poor by, just because we missed out on a creative player?
Sorry to ask - I’m not attacking but Rather interested in your opinion.

26 Oct 2020 20:29:18
Appreciate the response ED.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

27 Oct 2020 00:05:21
SY4 sorry mate I did not reply fully to your question in my initial reply.

I believe our signings have been poor of late because they are either overpriced (pepe) , not good enough (cedric) or that we did not address priority areas. Let's start from January. We signed cedric, a 29 year old, injury riddled Southampton reject, on a 4 year contract because his agent is Kia. I think the Eds can shed more light on kia joorachian.

we signed pablo mari, on a deal that eventually adds up to 12 million when he is a slow center back and already failed in Europe and we did not really need him. Eventually we bought gabriel to play the same role (a far much better upgrade. What an excellent signing he looks to be) .

Come to the summer, we signed willian on hefty 3 year contract. He is clearly past it because his pace is gone and he plays at a position where pace is critical. I do not understand the wisdom of that signing. Apart from the fulham game is there any other game where he played well?

Now the signing of the summer that everyone seems to be raving about is the partey signing but we paid the full release clause after refusing to do so the whole summer so it should not be hailed as a smart signing when we did what atletico asked us to do:i. e pay the full release clause. partey is a good player but not a great signing in my opinion.

Finally, we did not address priority areas. We have no number 10 and no number 8.We didn't sign any. I was of the opinion that aouar was a more necessary signing than partey while being 5 years younger. Last year we did not have problems against big teams because we could defend deep and hit them on the counter. it was against the small teams that defend in a low block that we struggled to break down. partey was a necessary signing but aouar was more necessary one in my opinion.

to sum it up, this are just my opinions. It doesn't mean i know better. I am just a fan just like you. I hope I have answered your question to the best of my ability.

26 Oct 2020 23:37:39
Ed047, I left out partey purely because I feel like that is one of the worst negotiations I have ever seen. He is a good player but remember Arsenal eventually paid the full clause after refusing to pay it the whole summer.

There were hoping Atletico would budge but Atletico stood firm. In the end, we got desperate and paid the full release clause on the final day. If that is not poor strategy and negotiation tell me what it is. Atletico played us by turning Torreira's head and we gave them torrreira with a buy option. There is even no obligation to buy at the end. Atletico were the better negotiators here. We paid the full release clause for partey but they got torreira on loan with a buy option at 18m euros, way below the price we paid for him.

SY4 mate, i am talking about the Edu regime, not the mislintat/ raul regime. Mislintat did make some good signings especially leno, guendouzi etc. I am talking of Edu specifically. I don't feel like he is up to the job.

{Ed047's Note - ahh ok, personally I’m worried how we signed him, Atletico knew he had a release clause, we paid it. 🤷‍♂️

26 Oct 2020 22:54:40
I think we'd actually all love to hear your opinion, ed002, regardless of whether one or two will lambast it.
Seems we're all in the dark hence everyone jumping on random theories.

{Ed002's Note - You all need to move on.}

Good point Punani.
