Either Arteta really did want Willian or he's simply toeing the company line by saying what a brilliant signing he is and how much he wanted him, either way it's worrying.
He also said Willian wanted to come to Arsenal for all the right reasons! I'd love to hear what those reasons were?
From the outside looking in it simply seems a case of we offered him more money that Chelsea did.

John you’re so cynical.

Hi Mark yes mate unfortunately I am, I have a very low tolerance level for people trying to sell me ham egg and chips as fillet steak and all the trimmings, I didn't like Arsene when he did it and it's no easier to digest from Mikel either.
We all know Willian left Chelsea for Arsenal for one reason, more money.
Of course that doesn't mean he won't give his all for us or be a good signing overall only time will tell that but don't give it all this " he's joining Arsenal for all the right reasons " rubbish in some feeble attempt to disguise the truth, it's embarrassing listening to your manager saying stuff which no one believes. If it was Jose saying it at Spurs we'd laugh our heads off at him.

{Ed002's Note - He didn't leave for more money - he left for no other reason than contract length.}

Will he not earn more over the duration of his Arsenal contract than he would have if he'd accepted Chelsea offer Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - It is not the money it is the contract length - he is moving clubs at the end of the contract so that makes no difference.}

Silvestre Mark II! A very good signing, if I was typing this 3 years ago. Instead we’re signing a cheese that was very good, but is now past its best, and steadily getting worse. In 2 years time we will still be paying a big monthly wage to watch that deterioration.

I would understand if Mikel said we'd signed him because financially we can't raise the money for big transfer fees and we were hoping his experience and winning mentality he'd learned at Chelsea would rub off on the younger players in particular and our squad in general, to me that would be plausible and believable even if not brilliantly inspiring.

I was unhappy about this and made my feelings clear. However, he is an Arsenal player now, and Silvestre with hair he may or may not be, but he deserves a chance to prove himself I suppose.

Absolutely Wire, we've all got to hope he proves to be the best signing of the 2020/ 21 season and plays a huge part in our champions league return.

From what I've seen William is on less money a week to play for us I think he will offer more than what we got in my opinion depends who else we get if this is a good window tho.
