Why did we end up with Pepe rather than Zaha? Always struggled with that one or was he just a smoke screen?

Did we end up paying more for Pepe than Oalace were asking for Zaha?
We used to do things the right way - we seem to have lost our values, thinking of Arteta saga also

{Ed001's Note - no, a fair bit less. Hard to see Pepe as the cheap option like, but he comparatively was!
Why do you like Zaha? I can see the him being an Arsenal player so would try harder reasoning, but not why you would like him? He is a horrible diving cheat who mostly just runs into blind alleys and loses the ball.}

I was looking at being an impact player / fast, good dribbler and dangerous with an eye for goal. Every player we sign nowadays needs 2 or 3 seasons to bed bloody down. Pepe looks so one footed, lightweight and struggles to stay on his feet. Just think we would have been better off with Zaha - hopefully we would have stamped out the diving but to be fair - Pepe Matteo Torriera all hit the deck pretty easy.
{Ed001's Note - true but I just don't think Zaha is much good. He makes poor decisions 90% of the time but can get away with it at Palace as everything goes through him. At Arsenal, he would be getting a much lower percentage of the ball and so choosing the wrong options so often would be more of a problem.}

Good point - same for goalies / defenders at big Vs small clubs . The game changes and different skills required

{Ed001's Note - yeah spot on mate. You are not looking for players who are good in the team they are in but ones who will be good in your style of play. That's why one team can pick up a player that can't get into a struggling team and he can turn into a superstar.
