The worrying thing for me is that Villa are back with their 3rd offer, which gives me the feeling that Arsenal are not saying definitely no and actually we have a price that we would sell. Bear in mind, lokongi, Tavares, possibly Ben White, a goalie and a cm, selling ESR would balance that out a fair bit.

I personally think that's not it mate. I reckon his agent has given an indication he is interested. Which I don't think he is but it'll earn him a bigger contract at arsenal as they're negotiating now.

I am optimistic for the coming season. We have a great bunch of talented young players,2 or 3 of them yet to make their mark. The big question or doubt for me is Auba, whether he will start scoring goals again.
The problem or downside if you like are the problem is the 3 other big wage earners, Willian, Lacca and Xhaxa. In my opinion I would take Romas offer whatever it was because a couple of good games in the Euros is not a reason to ignore the rubbish he has served up in the past.
Lacca, I just see him contributing zilch. As for Willian a stupid stupid signing.
That apart as I said earlier I am confident going into the season and has I already stated nothing less than top 3 . This might seem like dreaming to some people but the squad is not that far away.
As for Arteta I would just like to quote what 62 said in a earlier post. Sometimes it's not the car it's the driver that is the problem.

Hi Bill, I genuinely feel the car was much better than some of the 6 cars that finish ahead of it last season and for me there lays the problem.
Mikel struggles with personalies and does better with young players who don't ask questions or have opinions but just want to play at the highest level asap, the problem Mikel has there is the young players will mature, start to ask questions and have opinions of thier own after a couple of seasons at top level, which leaves Mikel and us back at square one.
Hopefully he will prove me wrong this season but I genuinely think he's out of his depth, I have been known to be wrong in the past of course 😎😎😎.

That and you need strong leaders and personalities to win. That means Arteta won’t want them or can’t manage them. So how do we progress as a club. That is only a smallish % of the issues I have with Arteta but a key one.

In Artetas plus box he has undoubtedly made us more difficult to score against and he has given youth a chance to flourish but unfortunately much of his defensive improvement is undone by his obsession with the players he has playing out from the back leading to very preventable goals being conceded.
I wonder how much difference it would make if Mikel could comprise at least for now by putting his ideals on hold and concentrating on what his current squad does best for now.

Arteta reminds me of both Arsene and Emery in his refusal to change or adapt his ideals regardless of his players inability to fulfil his personal ideologies.
Playing out from the back is like dancing, if you can do it well then you look brilliant doing it, but if your really not good at it then it's best left alone as you only end up giving everyone else a good laugh at your expense.

Cannot see why there is a certain amount of negativity with The 50 mill for Ben White. Arteta clearly wants to play it out from the back, Ben White is clearly capable of that.50 mill is what Brighton wanted, that's what we had to pay. Lokongo looked good the other day even though it is still very very early days. Tavares looked good. We have ESR signed a new contract, Saka, Tierney, Martinelli, Balogun, Pepe, all still young. I expect to see more of Azeez as well. that's a strong young nucleus. No Europa to worry about, so Arteta should be playing his strongest 11 albeit a couple of tweeks every weekend. For me €64000 question is Auba, how he is going to perform? .
That apart, I think we should be feeling confident going into the new season, with for me top 3 being the bottom line.

My take on Danny Mills is he is entitled to his opinion providing that opinion is not openly offensive. I personally don't listen to pundits like him and quite a few others I could mention because they either state the obvious or talk rubbish.

James Maddison is a player that what I have seen is a good player. But I seem to remember one of the Ed's saying that he was dropped by Brendan Rogers because he didn't always put in a shift. Apologies if it was not one of the Ed's or if I have not worded it right.
{Ed001's Note - he failed to turn up for training and was late a number of times, plus Rodgers felt he wasn't putting in the effort. He has been dropped a few times because of it, IIRC the cup final was one of them. Shame as he is an excellent player.}
