Just an question from me, partly an experiment. Who would you name as the greatest attacking players in world football over the past decade, and who you wished had played for Arsenal. I will accept both strikers and Attacking midfielders/ wingers.?

Ronaldo.

The two great attacking players last decade are surely Ronaldo and Messi. Of them, I would have loved Ronaldo in our team.

However, realistically, we had a chance to get the next best lot, Saurez is someone who could have been immense for us. Him and Ozil could have replicated Henry and Bergkamp. We definitely would have achieved something in Wenger's later term and Ozil also justified his value with Saurez upfront.

Suarez - to think if we’ve just bid a fiver more.

Have to add Ronaldo, Robben, De Bruyne, Lewandowski, Hazard, Iniesta, Griezmann, Benzema, Agüero and Pirlo

So my 3 - Benzema, Pirlo and Ronaldo.

Obviously Messi and Ronaldo, but the one for me would have been Benzema, we've had a LOT of strikers over the last decade, some of them quality, some really not. He has been absolutely world class for the entire decade.

Suarez would be a close second and then even though he's not been around for the last 3 or 4 years now, Iniesta, because he's Iniesta.

Kante, he turns defence into attack faster than than Arteta can say " we was robbed "

Ronaldo and Messi, but I would not have said no to Lewandowski, Hazard or Saurez.
Big big fan of De Bruyne as well.

That’s the sort of responses I expected, and completely misses out the player I also suspected wouldn’t make any list. This is despite that player having a goal scoring record of 1 goal for every 3 games for both club, over a 13 year period, and country, over an 11 year period, and who holds 1 world cup winners medal and two Champions League winners medals, countless domestic medals, and who also set a league record for assists in 2019. Can you guess that player, and can you also explain why he continually seems to go below the radar of being one of the best European players of the past decade in most people’s lists, including mine.

I have a guess at Thomas Muller.

{Ed014's Note - Bendtner?

David Villa?

No idea but Mario Mandzukic should be on the list.

Giroud is just a champions league medal short, well sort of, he ticks most boxes.

HB hit the nail on the head with Thomas Muller. Why is he never included in any lists of the best players of recent time? His record is superb, and over a decade period. Is it because you never here anything about him, no transfers, no issues, no histrionics that some of the better known players seem to have?

I really like muller and it was ludicrous Lowe told him he would never play for Germany again (backtracked since, showing what a stupid thing that was to do, never say never) his goal scoring record for Germany at big tournaments, he could of been the highest scorer at World cups! But even so I don't think he comes close to Messi and Ronaldo does he?

Ronaldo record smashes Mullers

Man U 84 goals in 106 app

Real Madrid 311 goals in 292 app ( wow )

Juventus 81 goals in 97 app

Portugal 103 goals in 174 app

In 4 different countries quite incredible.

{Ed077's Note - but Muller does have amazingly absurd assist numbers though....

15.) 08 Jun 2021
08 Jun 2021 10:49:04
Yes he does 223 in 669 games

Ronaldo 225 in 1057 games.

I agree he is not in the same league as Messi and Ronald, but to be fair no one is, and also to be fair Muller doesn’t play as an out and out forward, so one in 3 is pretty good for an AM. However, it was the list from SY4 that interested me, as again people like Griezmann make the list but Muller never does. Not having a go at SY4, my list would be the same. In fact even now, if I could pick a German player from the past decade to play for us it would have been Marco Reus, even though Thomas Muller has clearly been a better and more consistent player. I can’t figure out why that is?

Oh no doubt mate and he’s a player we’d love at our club . TM is clearly up there with the best but we know who the top two are.

Agree with that epping, he should definitely be in the conversation for the next step down, but like you say often gets overlooked.

I'm a Mbappe fan and to think Arsene was in talks to sign him at one point!
