As a Liverpool fan you guys have turned the corner. Should be proud of your boys this afternoon. You were by far the better side today and don't get me started on the standard of refs/ VAR in this country.

Ref wasn't instructed to go to the screen for your pen, which was a pen by the way. But gets instructed for City's, can't make it up. Anyways will be an interesting game on Thursday. See you guys then.

{Ed014's Note - cheers Alonso and yep see you then mate

Liverpool fan here. Saka is 19 years of age and had the courage to take a penalty in a final. I take my hat off to the lad. Southgate should never have put him in that position in the first place, especially when Sterling and Grealish were available. He will grow from this and is in no way shape or form to blame in the slightest. This experience will only make the clearly talented kid stronger.

Thanks mate, at 19 Sterling would have begged to take a penalty, unfortunately the abuse he has suffered since then has understandably made him think twice if not 3 times before stepping up and subjecting himself to what he's learned will follow.

No one can be blamed for not bringing that abuse on themselves.

Thanks for the post Alonso :)

3.) 12 Jul 2021 23:59:49
Interesting point 62 and does that put increased pressure on players of colour? As if there isn’t enough pressure on penalty takers. Being white - it’s easy to over look that. Thank you for the great perspective.

Over from the Liverpool page and just an observation with the majority of Arsenal fans regarding Ozil. I see the general consensus is he is lazy but according to Ed001. I believe that not to be the case as he in fact covers more ground than most of the Arsenal players, so just slightly confused as to the hate for want of a better word lobbied at him and wanted to get a better understand as I believe him to be a fantastic player ability wise.

Works much much harder than most give him credit for, I watched him for 90 minutes during one game totally ignoring the ball just forcing on Mesut and his work rate is incredible, his talent is unquestionably but it's his availability that I find difficult to understand.

He has more colds and minor injuries than any player I can remember, if we have a bad result ( not uncommon in recent years) Ozil seems to pick up a virus or bad back or muscle problem.
I genuinely believe if he was at City or Liverpool he'd be fit a lot lot more often.

2.) 22 Jan 2019 23:11:23
Obviously doesn't fit Emerys style, isn't reliable and his wages are not making life easy for arsenal football club. He isn't and doesn't give value for money. If his demeanour attitude and workrate ( closing down) improved, he may start earning his money and more praise. I think its defening the sound of trampling feet of teams not rushing to try and prize a "class" player, available away, when its pretty obvious he is available. Why?

3.) 23 Jan 2019 06:12:19
He performs when we play well. When we play poorly he's singled out for his body language. I get frustrated at his inability to tackle but it's hardly what we signed him for.

He should be played every game if he is fit unless for tactical reasons like Ramsey to mark Jorginho. Nobody else can supply Auba and Laca as reliably.

4.) 23 Jan 2019 08:33:31
Back in 2013 when Mesut arrived we all expected huge things from him but I think it's fair to say he would have expected much much more from Arsenal too.
As much as Mesut has been a disappointment to Arsenal I think Arsenal have equally been a disappointment to Mesut.
Anyone remember Mesuts first taste of an Arsenal thrashing at City when he stormed off the pitch at the finial whistle? Mertesacker publicly berated him for showing his emotion and how angry he was about that embarrassing performance and he had to publicly apologise for his behaviour, I think the penny dropped that day that he hadn't joined an ambitious club but one that was cosy and happy to get by with as little as possible.

5.) 23 Jan 2019 09:12:34
He seem very emotional and doesn’t like to lose, I don’t mind his body language because it actually means that he cares. Maybe because his wage and price tag we and the media expects too much from him. He vision is second to none. I still rate him personally and I think there’s a lot to come from him.
It just a shame as wire mentioned when we play poorly he’s always singled out. In his second season he created more chances than gerard and lambard combined.
They is always thisbodd players they need to be well managed to get the best out of them.

6.) 23 Jan 2019 10:59:30
He's a class player Moe but he unfortunately joined Arsenal when the club wasn't all it could or should have been.

7.) 23 Jan 2019 11:17:17
He should be treated like a QB (nfl) have the blockers/ defenders defending doing everything they can so that the QB (Ozil) Cam do what he does best. find the killer pass.
He’s the best at what he does, creating chances, so we should be doing everything in our power to let him do that n that alone in my opinion.
Coyg.

8.) 23 Jan 2019 11:21:41
There’s little doubt he has talent, he suited the kind of football Wenger wanted to play and when Cazorla and Coquelin were at their best, very briefly I know, then Ozil was at his best.

His clear dislike of heading or tackling doesn’t help his cause but put the right players around him with Auba and Laca and he would be immense again.

9.) 23 Jan 2019 13:48:19
Arsene didn't seem to really know what to do with Ozil when he arrived and Stuck him out of the wing to accommodate Caz playing in the hole behind Giroud.
When Le Coq and Caz came together in cmf then suddenly there became room for Mesut to play more freely.

I remember Mesuts first game away to Sunderland and him doing tee ups with chewing gum before the game, he looked totally relaxed confident and he certainly started off playing like that too.
It's easy to forget now what a huge signing Mesut was back in 2013, Spurs had Just spent the Bale money and more on singing lots of new players and the Spurs fans where buzzing until, we got Mesut Ozil and then all thier new players put together seemed a bit silly in comparison to the true world superstar we had signed at the time.

10.) 23 Jan 2019 14:20:25
Was going to add my penny's worth but i think the previous responses have covered it really well. Would still have him in my Arsenal team every week, and like Stoner and others have said, would let other players worry about winning the ball, and just let Ozil worry about how he is going to set up chances for Lacca and Aubey.

11.) 23 Jan 2019 14:45:35
It's a real shame it hasn't ever quite worked out for us and Mesut but it's 23.59pm on his Arsenal clock and it would be some last minute turnaround if things were to work out now between him and Dick.

12.) 23 Jan 2019 19:18:29
Thanks all for the responses, seems he came with a lot of expectations but it didn’t work out for one reason or another, such a shame considering his ability.

13.) 25 Jan 2019 08:31:57
On his salary: Mesut Özil has the 4th most followers on Twitter of all footballers, only behind CR Messi and Neymar. His market stays for the club is huge. Therefore you could justify the salary. He probably earn it in kit sales alone. Arsenal would probably have a dip in fan base the day he’s gone!

On his playing style: he is a attacking player. His job is not to tackle, and use his energy to break down the other team. He prefers a 10 role big in’s the strikers. He played winger in RM. He hardly ever loose the ball. He always try to break open the defense. He is really good at holding the play at the opposing side of the pitch.

Liverpool fan come in peace. Of course I am happy for the win but you guys don't deserve that. Every team loses but all us fans want is to see is thier team tried at least, playing with passion. At times it looks like the players cannot be bothered and what's worrying is its become a habit, if anything play for yourself, wheres your pride. Its sad to see that as I grow up watching the great Arsenal of Veira, Henry etc and this is just a shambles.

Respect to you mate.

Well played to Liverpool. Your fast tempo always kills us.

2.) 27 Aug 2017 21:01:09
Fair play mate I see where your coming from. When the 6th best team in the country for the past two decades turns you over with such ease then it's time to worry .

3.) 27 Aug 2017 21:45:26
I'm a Liverpool fan but also a football fan. I got no issues with Arsenal and if I felt like that just thinking what you guys must be feeling. Hope we both do well this season but in my opinion and this goes for both us and for you, is if a player does not want to play for the club then go. Ed 2 always says that players are transient and life will go on when a player leaves and that's true. The fans pay a great deal of money both on tickets and traveling and don't deserve to watch players giving have arsed performances as effort should be a minimum requirement as a professional footballer.

Are you in the sauce tonight Gunner62 as I didn’t know we were playing tonight? . On a serious note Spurs deserved to go through with their second half performance. Ajax just capitulated, they changed the tempo and slowed it down which was mistake number 1 and they just couldn’t handle the lump up front which was mistake number 2 who for me changed the tie. Admittedly I would have much preferred Ajax but fancy us to beat Spurs. In terms of comebacks I think ours edged it because of the odds stacked against us but tonight’s comeback ain’t far behind and who cares as we now have 2 English sides in the Champions League Final.

Good luck to the Gunners tomorrow and here’s to hoping its an all English Europa Cup final!

Gunner62 I can’t even argue with your points, you are right especially with Emery accumulating 90+ points with Man City. Klopp did galvanise the club, fans and players, you need a manager in the same ilk to wake you guys up and return you to where you should be and that’s competing on all four fronts with the added bonus of being given a healthy budget to invest on the right players to take you there.

Rafa Benitez was promised signings such as David Villa, David Silva who he had agreed personal terms with the players only for the owners to not back him with the funds to buy them and that’s a few to mention. He did spend money and bought some good players, Alonso and Torres to note but also admittedly wasted money on poor signings.

Benitez was not adequately back in comparison to the teams which were in and around us at the time. Rafa Benitez in his first three seasons was given no more than £27.5 Million to work with, it was only until his fourth season the owners gave him £70 Million and he went and brought in the likes of Mascherano and Torres and the following season we finished 2nd in the league, they should have went and backed him further instead the investment dwindled with the next two season seeing us spend £39 million. In addition to that the debt they put us in prior to are current owners taking over put us in a very bad financial position, which seems like a bad dream to where we are now.

Back to Arsenal I enjoy watching other teams play as I love football in general and have watched a large number of your games. I agree that you need to make the most of what you got but honestly the mentality of your players is a major issue. I am not saying spend money on marquee signings per say but on the right players with the right mentality willingly to fight for the shirt. All Arsenal fans believe you should be challenging for the title such is the stature of the club and for that you need a world class defender, which comes at a price you only have to look no further than us with Virgil Van Dyke.

Over from the Liverpool page. I would only keep Leno and Torreira and that includes your manager who is not to the standard of where you guys should be. Only problem is your owners won’t spend big and make those wholesale changes needed and the lack of Champions League footie keeps you in the same predicament.

I feel your pain, we had Gillett and Hicks as owners and were only spared from that misery with them selling to our current owners. I grew up seeing Arsenal dominate the league and its sad to see you guys where you are and hope you get back to competing at the top level.
