News coming in from Ornie/ The Athletic that Emi Martinez has been left out of the squad for tomorrow (club+his+agents decision)
Deal to villa imminent with him being No.1
Brighton might bid too.
Gutted to read this. Arteta just hours ago said he would pick according to how they perform in training and was non committal on a starter for tomorrow.
Tough choice. But onwards and upwards.
On another side - David Raya is touted and is 10-15M apparently. Crazy for a No.2 as it would almost be no profit on Emi.
Matt Macey featured today. So Illiev on the bench tomorrow?
1.) 11 Sep 2020 20:53:51
We should seriously start to consider putting Arthur Okonkwo in the squad 💯%.
2.) 11 Sep 2020 21:14:21
I think judge the decision at the end of the window, if we lose Martinez and don't get a DM then it's cray but if we line up with Leno and a quality DM then great business.
3.) 12 Sep 2020 08:29:30
Any chance we can put in a first refusal or relegation buy back clause. Really like emi but understand that he wants to be a guaranteed number 1.
4.) 12 Sep 2020 10:05:39
I would hate to see us sell at 15 to 20m and buy at around the 15mMark to leave little money for a decent CDM - unless Emi is being a big paid or could lose him for nothing soon but may be this is part of a huge master plan where all the small piles of millions at up to a squad changing signing. Surely the Brentford boy is under 10m.
Such a shame to lose Emi. Would rather sell Leno 💯 and Leno should attract interest. If not then have we down graded.
5.) 12 Sep 2020 15:22:20
I can understand having to sell Its a shame but he know wants be be gauranteed number 1 and we can't give him that guarantee. don't see the point in spending all sale money on another number 2 to replace though what does that say about Macey surely we need to start being confident in him being number 2 now?
6.) 12 Sep 2020 18:51:45
I think everyone forgets how good Leno was before his injury. If 6 months ago someone was offering £20m for Martinez you’d have snapped their hand off.
He played really well the last chunk of the season but he is also the same keeper who struggled to hold down a number 1 spot in the championship.
I agree with comments about the bulk of his fee being used on a replacement being frustrating, but better sell and get someone in who is ok with being second choice and happy to fight for first.

Ed's- Any news of us submitting a new bid for Partey or Auoar.
Last heard they rejected out swap deals right out and wanted cash.
Any idea if there is a negotiation still taking place like us tabling a 2nd offer?
{Ed002's Note - Arsenal would need sales to fund bids.}
1.) 06 Sep 2020 20:42:25
Thanks Ed!
So we just need to sell
Sokratis (Koulibaly)
Guendouzi (whoever would give us a bag of chips)
Torreira (Almost done I guess)
One of Chambers/ Holding out
Bellerin (PSG want him)
Sounds easy.
2.) 08 Sep 2020 07:36:11
Doubt selling those would cover even half of Partey/ Aouar.
14 Aug 2016 08:48:28
Hey Eds, I just saw a rumour about Arsenal bidding/ rejected for Lamina (Juventus) . Any truth behind this? I thought CM/ DM moves were sealed with the squad we have and if need be, we would only dip in for a goal scoring winger.
1.) 15 Aug 2016 06:17:22
We clearly need at least one CB, arguably two, with Mertesacker out until 2017 and in the last year of his contract. On the topic of Mertesacker, I can't think of anything more idiotic than making him captain. We also need a striker, with Welbeck injured long term.
Hopefully, it is just paper talk, as being linked with Mahrez and Lamina makes zero sense, as we have ample players in their positions, but them again Wenger has always liked collecting midfield players, whilst we need a CB and a Striker. If we don't make these signings, we will finish top four at best, but I can't see a challenge for trophies succeeding.
2.) 15 Aug 2016 18:08:42
Collects them like football sticker's.

Reposting separately to get your thoughts. Esp ED047. Just my thoughts - Not that anyone from Arsenal are reading this. Or are they?
Of what I've watched of Emi Buendia- He can surely play across (Including 10) At least has the technique for it. Creates chance after chance.
In hindsight for the contract we've offered Willian - We could've signed Buendia in the previous window.
Carlos Soler might be an interesting 8/ 10 choice too as Valencia are under a lot of financial pressure.
{Ed047's Note - I’ve not seen enough of Emi to make any real comment but he is getting rave reviews.
I have a good mate whose a die hard Norwich fan and he believes the deal is already done it’s just about the money.
Sadly not even heard of Soler, just checked and he’s got 5 goals and 4 assists in 13 games so far this season.
As for Willian, crazy decision.
1.) 06 Jan 2021 19:40:37
Ed the Buendia deal is done for us?
{Ed047's Note - no Alex I can’t say that mate, my friend says it is but he’s just a fan not an in the know.
2.) 06 Jan 2021 20:54:14
Thanks Ed for the response.
Emi Buendia can play RW as we all know. With the chances and his technique i'm pretty sure he can be used at a 10 too. At 20M and know how of the league at 23 - Might turn out to be a beautiful signing. No much in terms of Agent fees or wages either.
As for Soler - We can look in the summer too for this in case Dani moves out
Soler again is superb technically and can be a potential xhaka replacement along with Partey.
Better distribution, drive, passing range. Proper footballer.
3.) 07 Jan 2021 03:09:27
I have been raving about Buendia since last summer, I think he's a brilliant player and was shocked he stayed put. Think it's only a matter of time until he moves, and likely to a much bigger club. IMO he's a very similar player to Cazorla. Think I might be on record here or at least on the Guardian as pleading for the club to sign him over Willian!
06 Oct 2020 10:02:47
Thanks Eds for all your tireless work here!
Now is the moment of truth. Who will be the 2 players we would leave out of the PL squad?
My guess - Sokratis, Ozil.
Shambles given they're on their last year of contract. If we are paying them, might as well have canceled contracts if we couldn't move others on.
1.) 06 Oct 2020 11:34:18
Interesting topic mate.
I honestly do not see Ozil being dropped from the PL squad purely due to wages. I think Sokratis will for sure but I don't know about the other one.
03 Sep 2020 23:44:49
I would love to know Ed2 and 47s thoughts regarding Adrian Clarke's live. He's employed by Arsenal in some way.
Some excerpts from the interview is --
Dani is effectively a bench player if we get our targets (now that Dani is done almost)
Dani isn't the box to box influence that Ramsey was (Don't know what Ramsey was for us honestly) , Saying clearly Guendouzi is for sale, Disclosing our targets in terms of Partey/ Aouar and how both of them would transform us.
Isn't it a conflict of interest as he is kind of employed by us? Do we want an inside source telling the world we desperate to move on certain players and don't believe in some entirely by giving out their shortcomings?
{Ed047's Note - he does the analysis stuff on the Arsenal club site if we’re talking about the same guy.
I think a lot of what he has said is already out in the public domain re targets etc and people leaving as we ourselves openly talk about in on here for example, however not sure that talking about a potential target (Ceballos) in such a negative way is advisable or particularly sensible.
1.) 04 Sep 2020 13:49:06
Where is the interview as it’s not on aftv yet.
2.) 05 Sep 2020 09:27:37
Thanks Ed47!- Yes it's the same guy.
The interview is on YouTube under - The Chronices of a Gunner channel
Search for- Adrian Clarke on Thomas Partey
Absolutely uncalled for some of that stuff - Especially cause he is being employed by the club.
If I had done that to my current employers - They would have furloughed me for sure.
{Ed047's Note - ah thanks mate, I’ll have a look later when I’ve finished work.
No our owner he’s not even aware of it! 🤣
20 Aug 2020 21:40:54
Reports coming in from Matt Spiro that Arsenal are the only club to launch a bid for Houssem Aouar.
Aouar + Ceballos + Partey is my dream midfield combination considering we play a 4 at the back and sell Torreira+Guendouzi.
What do you all reckon?
1.) 20 Aug 2020 21:50:34
Xhaka needs to start for me mate.
2.) 21 Aug 2020 07:33:02
I doubt we’ll be able to pull it off the way Gabriel transfer is panning out.
08 Aug 2019 21:14:59
Hi Ed's,
I've been following the whole of this transfer season mostly on this site. Thanks first of all for all the great work you do.
Just wondering - With us getting 33+Mil at the end from sales of Kos, Jenko and Iwobi - Do you still feel we have spent next seasons money also?
{Ed002's Note - Oh yes. The club are hedging their bets on success and bringing in additional commercial income. Maybe they could still sell a couple of players this summer to ease the future grief.}
1.) 08 Aug 2019 22:17:38
The future is all still to be played for, Pepe could be worth 150 million this time next year or he could join Xhaka and Mustafi on the list of unsellables :-)
No one knows the future sometimes you've just got to enjoy the now!
2.) 08 Aug 2019 22:19:52
Hopefully not another LEEDS.
3.) 08 Aug 2019 22:26:36
do you see it as a big risk ed? or something that we can recover from if things don't go our way this season with a champions league spot.
{Ed002's Note - It is a major risk going forward and the club will need to look to sell.}
4.) 09 Aug 2019 00:43:23
Yes we have taken a financial gamble on getting into top 4 this season which will be vital. I think Chelsea's ban helped push us a little in taking advantage now with one less big club not being able to potentially go for our targets. And also the fact we may see this season as the best chance to push ahead of Chelsea and knock them out of that top 4 place. They are in a bit of unknown prospect now with respected but inexpirenced Lampard at the helm and no Hazard.
Still question marks with Utd and if OGS has what it takes to mange them they have spend big on Maquire but he will improve their defence but wan bissaka and james are young and unproven and for me they not got creativity in midfield and the mood of Pogba seems a constant issue.
It been good window but only time will tell if the gamble pays off. I think we have a decent chance of Top 4 but look how we blew it in the last few games when it was handed to us on plate. We need to show a stronger mentality as a squad when the going gets tough and pressure is on.
If we miss out again on top 4 the money will then very much dry up I think we could be in real danger of losing our top stars and starting on that slippery slope down.
5.) 09 Aug 2019 10:39:40
We are not taking a gamble here. we have a net spending of approx. £55 mill if you remove saliba from the equation (approx 80 with) this is pretty much what we have spend the last years. Even though the inflation on what players cost sky rocketing every year. If you check the books available on the Arsenal site you will see that we got more than £150 mill in cash. And no red numbers anywhere. We got a new kit deal worth £60 mill a year. We are considered the seventh most valuable club in the world. We have a lot of young talents coming up through the ranks. We building a new management structure.
Where is the problem?
{Ed002's Note - The first problem is you don’t understand the finances at all. Hopeless.}
6.) 09 Aug 2019 16:21:07
Fortune favours the brave!
You've got to speculate to accumulate
And best of all
happiness is just the other side of fear, always.
03 Oct 2020 20:29:56
Glenn is absolutely right here.
We are at 19 in our squad with Non HG Above 21 players whereas it can only be 17.
So we need 4 to leave to get 2 in. Even if we had all the cash.
Torreira, Kolasinac, Sokratis are the closest out.
Means we can only sign 1 even if all 3 leave.
Not being able to Move These 3 early, add Mustafi, Chambers, Ozil, Matteo to this might be the reason we did leave it this late?
Would be interesting as to which 2 we sell or leave out of our squad if it doesn't happen till the end. We might be forced to let Torreira join AM for a loan fee without Partey/ replacement by the likes of it.
Mismanagement in all levels by the hierarchy in place at the club.
Eds were right about it being a mess all along!
06 Sep 2020 20:42:25
Thanks Ed!
So we just need to sell
Sokratis (Koulibaly)
Guendouzi (whoever would give us a bag of chips)
Torreira (Almost done I guess)

29 Aug 2020 22:02:21
I agree with Malaga here. He was abject in playing out of the back. Has not gelled well with Pepe in the overload and has a terrible final ball/ crossing stat. Add this to the fact that his positioning is sketchy.
At this age - we have 2 options. Sell and reinvest in squad or hope that he fulfils his early potential.
I would sell if and only if we get a good fee - 25M-35M.
07 Aug 2020 19:42:56
@ED0666 - Was that sarcasm with the wages? Cause Willian was at 120K at Chelsea and rumours are of him signing a 100K deal with us.
For the experience it's a fair price. Agree that we should be looking young but - We already have Pepe/ Reiss/ Martinelli/ Saka and don't want to impede their chances maybe. Willian is just an experience backup is my hunch.
If this happens- Reiss might be loaned out in Jan-Feb maybe.
{Ed0666's Note - No Kasvan I wasn’t being sarcastic I’m being deadly serious. Willian was on 120k at Chelsea but they only offered him a year or two year extension you’ve given him 3 years so works out much more in the long term. I really think it’s an absurd transfer I really do as you could have got say an experienced 26 year old on similar wages who still would be in his prime in 3 years. I think what I’m trying to say he’s not worth the outlay especially given you’re financial circumstances.
22 Jul 2019 21:47:09
I very much am with the feeling that Arsenal will not land Zaha or Malcom, forcing them to go with Soares. Reiss will be here to stay with Nketiah going on loan to accommodate Auba/ Laca/ Martinelli and Reiss to play 3 of the 4. Just my guess cause Mikhi and Ozil will not be trusted as much in wide positions and we might have Ceballos and Willock to play central with Xhaka/ Torreira/ Guendouzi.
06 Jan 2021 20:54:14
Thanks Ed for the response.

Arsenal Alex - Just trying to do the math out loud here
Ozil sokratis mustafi Luiz Kolasinac is probably 700 k per week. And contributes to like 20% + of our wages. All of them out by end of season.
Add 2 of chambers/ laca/ guendouzi/ torreira
The figure we would save per year would be around 45M depending on the players.
This is what we would be culling majorly.
Close to 1/ 3rd our wage bill.
06 Jan 2021 18:38:51

D16 - There is still PL-Football league window which closes 16th.
PL squad needs to be submitted eod 16th.
So we will only then know the 2 we did not register.
17 Sep 2020 19:27:24
Wrong there about the 20M fee. That was what was rumored as it was going to be permanent at first.
Today The Athletic reported it's a 1 year loan (As Bale has only 2 years left and RM have no pull to not loan - As no buyers)
Quote from Article --
All they would be required to cover is up to half of his wages. While £300,000 per week would be a big commitment — £100,000 a week more than they pay their current top earners, Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane — it is still only salary. If Tottenham pay that every week until the end of the season that would cost them just over £12 million. The total cost of the Bale deal, according to sources, is expected to be roughly £15 million for one season of football.
