Will be interesting to see how Lucas Perez gets on in the pre season tour. Was kind of discarded by Wenger and not given a real chance. Emery with a clean slate has given him another chance, could he be the answer as a wide player for us?

Eden, kalasinac, gabriel could be added to that list, along with others. Ultimately i don't think perez will cut the mustard but it does beg the question why did we buy these players?

yes! those 2 were also odd! yet some other players imo got too much of a chance, there was some very odd decisions the last couple years.

Think wenger said he signed perez because he was unsure how long welbeck would have been out for, so once he came back perez lost his chances to play and instead of using him as competition he was simply sent out on loan.

Perez was a strange signing yes at the time but you have to a least give him a chnace to prove his worth which Wenger never did loaning him straight away. Kolasinac I though did well when he first coem into the team so to me is stil worth squad member he is better going forward than Monreal but not as good defensivly so a good option in a 3-5-2. Players like Jenkinson, Campbell, Iwobi and Wellbeck are the ones we need to dispose of first as they are clearly proved not good enough long term.

Perez in my opinion was a silencer for the fans and it worked too, despite knowing nothing about him people went Perez crazy predicting all kinds of things despite never having seen him play.
On the field the signing made no sense because he never got a chance but as a PR exercise it worked brilliantly.

What's really good this preseason is no one has gone new signing crazy especially over players they have no idea about, I think things have become much more realistic since Arsene left, I'm not sure why that is because I don't think Arsene particularly talked new signings up in arrival or over predicted great things from them but there does seem a lot more calm reality from fans this summer than in previous years.

I like Perez for his intensity. Hard worker. I would say he is an improved Walcott. Maybe not a starter, but a decent squad player. Falls out of games some times.

Exciting News about Pepe most likely signing. That must mean Zaha deal is dead bet he is not a happy chap right now.
Just wonder how Emery will fit them all in will he go 4 2 3 1 with Auba, Ozil and Pepe behind Lacazette that will put a lot of pressure on the 2 defensive midfielders behind. What about Ceballos he came here to be a starter would he take Ozil's place in that 3 prong behind laca? . can't see him being used in a DM role. Who are best 2 to use in DM role I would Personally go Guendouzi and Torreira but Xakha seems to be a favourite with Emery
Looks like writing is also on the wall then for Miki and Iwobi, selling them would be useful to free wages then for a CB that we still need.

Ceballos played deeper whilst at Betis if I remember correctly, he could certainly play alongside Torreira and finally bring some control to proceedings in our midfield (something we've lacked since Santi) . Be interesting to see if that then got the best out of Ozil. Ozil is a class player but he definitely needs someone to get their head up and pick him out when he gets into dangerous positions, again lacking since Santi.
I also agree with selling both of those two, Nelson and Rowe-Smith are more than capable replacements and we've also got Saka coming through.

Extended holiday maybe Ryan? Hasn't he just played in the U21 European Championships with France? Same would apply for Iwobi who is still playing for Nigeria at AFCON.

That will be it I expect. I knew Torreira, Iwobi and Elneny are at the Copa America and ACON respectivly hence extended breaks.

Not sure how we won this game as so many players were poor but 3 points is all that counts. Cech was our best player really with some fine saves so plenty of work still to do. Torrira was decent but again not sure what Xhaka brings to table really, he was not terrible but had little effect in the game. Ramsey was also poor, is no way worth the 200+k he is reported after. We still need better balance in the midfield in order to have better connection with the front players as they were isolated today. Having both Ramsey and Ozil in same side is too much of a luxury.

Crazy first half 2-2, Defensivly all over the shop but we keep getting in behind to create chances with in the box and could have easily been ahed as had the better chances. Torreria needs to come on for Xhaka and Bring Lacazette on for Miki or Ozil. I don't think you can have both Miki and Ozil play without being to exposed in the midfield as they are never going to both get back in shape quick enough.

Well Dick looked out for the count but somehow he's back on his feet ( I'm not quite sure how)
He needs to use his time in his corner to sort himself out big style because he won't survive in the premier league long swinging wild windmill punches and putting and no defensive savy.
He is looking more like Dick Turnip that Dick Whittington by sticking by Xhaka who is more of a cart horse than a hansom steed like black Bess :-)

Should Eddie Nketiah be promoted to 1st team squad and Wellbeck sold. I know we only tend see him in cup games or friendlies but he impresses me everytime. Much more dangerous than Wellbeck.

On the Nketiah front I definitely think so. When was the last time Arsenal had so many promising and exciting youngsters in the system? Nelson especially looks every bit the part. Hope he sees his fair share of first team action this season.

Yeah some promising young players like Simth-Rowe and Nelson question is can Emery turn that potential into reality long term because it seemed that Wenger lost that ability late in his reign.

yep looks like on thet BBC news reel looks a done deal 65mill plus add ons. No too convinced myself with Havertz tbh but he can play a number of forward positions so can see the appeal there, let's hope he turns out a good buy.

if anything it makes more likely I feel he will be sold Brentford can't afford to not have a main striker for that long out so will cash in now i feel if someone is willing.

Good luck to Chambers at Villa he only going ever be a a bit part player for us and has never really nailed down a primary position between RB and CB, jack of of all master of none situation which happens to a lot of players really. A good pro sure but we have held onto these types of players for too long in my view to detriment of us and the player really so time to move on and free up space and wages. If Saliba comes back (hope he is given a proper chance as being doing well at Marsille) we have 4 Cb's anyway so we covered there with Holding, White and Gabby assuming Mari will be sold at season end.

yeah strange he was not even in carabo cup squad last night at least, obvs Arteta does not believe he is ready yet for the EPL would it not make more sense to try and loan him to a English side then. Situation don't look good long term for him, maybe with Gabriel coming Saliba is no longer fancied long term I suspect.

Could see it as a blessing as disguise i suppose as it at least stops Arteta using him as RB. Its frustrating now leaves us sort in CM midfield options can't afford any more long term injuries that's for sure. Tommy and White are good enough for RB positions but LB a bit lacking for me let's hope Zinko don't get a injury although i guess Tommy can cover both sides if needs must but leaves us thread bear tbh. Are there any half decent free agents around anyone know off.

yeah think Cedric needs to say for now as LB cover option now both Holding and Tierney gone with Timber injured more or less all season we can't really afford another defensive injuiry tbh now.

Well for a me a bit of a 50/ 50 windows Rice yes expensive but he certainly ads that extra bite and leadership to our team and his best years are still ahead. Timber shame he injured but could already see how well he as settled into the squad and adds versatility between a back 3 and back 4.
Raya a good keeper yes but not a signing we needed to make just trust Rammers as Number 1 I say and get oldie back up keeper. Maybe its just Arteta is terrified a bit if Ramsdale were to get injured and having to use rookie Hein, but like i say just buy a veteran that is happy as number 2?. it could go either way push each of them to greater heights or undermine their confidence knowing one mistake their are out.
Kai i guess we have to allow some time but my fear is its another Ozil situation, yes he has quality but i do feel right now Arteta is shoe horning him into the side to the determent to the overall balance of our side, on form Trossard should be in the side ahead of him. You have to earn your place.
Yes this Party at RB thing has to stop, I have a feeling if he plays there tomorrow Rashford is going to pull out wide to that side and have a field day on the counter if we are not mindful. Put him in his best position alongside Rice let's dominate that midfield RB is not a natural position for Party atall. I piut Tommy right although White be ok try and keep a solid 3 at back allowing Zinko on otherside a little more freedom in come into midfield when on the ball.

No idea don't see the logic of breaking up a sold partnership at the back to experiment with this inverted full back system. Party at right back is just wrong when he such a strong central midfielder just play him in his best position. If you going use this odd method just use Tommy Right and Zinchenko left. Just struggling to see what Kai offers over say Trossard. I mean he was not terrible tonight but was just sort of there neat and tidy enough but not much else really. I don't want to seem like I am knocking him down unfairly as a new player but he has to be doing more for me to warrant a starting place
don't matter if he 65Million worth or not. Nketiah man of match tonight lead the line well i thought.
{Ed014's Note - I was surprised Kai played the whole 90 as Trossard for me would have offered more offensively and defensively.

real bad news gutted for him and the team he has really settled in well to. Interesting to see if Arteta sticks to a back 3 or go back 4 now with the usual Gabby Saliba partnership?
