Have to laugh. I read somewhere about OGS.
When he arrived at ManU they were languishing 18 points behind Liverpool. They then went on "that magical run of games" while Liverpool's title bid "hit a blip" and after "turning the ship around" they are now.18 points behind Liverpool.

Finally back again and looking forward to the new season with more optimism than usual. 2pts from first two games and I would be happy. A draw in the first and a win would be great. Anyhow a little light heartedness going into the season with something I came across on facebook.

Under the caption " If I can survive this, then I can survive anything"

Then this team selection:

Fabianski

Djourou
Koscielny
Squillaci
Miquel

Chamberlain
Frimpong
Coquelin
Benayoun

Chamakh
Park

Surely we've come a long way since those days. :)

Some of those players are not that bad mate (Kos is still our best defnder when fit, but best days behind him now) but yeah Squillaci has to be up there as one of worst Arsenal signings in recent years. Chamakh and Park not far behind in poor quality, championship standard at best those two.

2.) 07 Aug 2018 20:06:06
Some of those players might read that side then look at a couple of today's squad and think ummm I'd have looked good next to them :-) .

3.) 08 Aug 2018 05:41:35
Our problems with goal keepers never seemed to go away, fabianski looked terrible for us, but has looked decent for Swansea, same with szczeny, looked dodgy at best for us, looked really good for roma and now could be first choice for juve. Then we bought cech and maybe coincidentally as age fought up with him, but it's been a pretty rapid decline since joining us! I think mainly the defensive organisation (disorganisation) has made keepers look way worse than they were for us.

Anyone else keen on the idea of trying Maitland-Niles in place of Bellerin for a while, because at the moment he is playing absolute S, well I'm lost for words. He looks lost. And can we please bring in a winger who wants to take people on, get round the back and put in some decent crosses.

Estepona gooner

1.) 30 Dec 2017 14:10:44
No no no, but the winger idea I think we need twonthis window.

2.) 30 Dec 2017 16:01:29
No why? Like him or not debauchery should be tried first. Niles is a midfielder, young and doesn't need messing around like other young defenders here. I said this summer bellerin has no strength or bravery, is not suited to the prem and we should have sold when we had the chance.

3.) 30 Dec 2017 17:21:29
I'd like to see Debuchy play a few games. I thought he played well against Red Star in Europa. Plus a bit of competition for Bellerin might give him the kick to up his game to the level we all know he's capable of.

4.) 30 Dec 2017 19:11:12
Yes, Bellerin is seriously overrated. He was converted from a winger into a full/ wing back, who can't defend. Maitland-Niles looks far better as a defender even though his favoured position is in midfield. Wenger did the same to Gibbs, who was an outstanding young midfield player, who can't defend.
Despite having two LB' s Wenger insisted on playing right-footed Maitland-Niles at LB and has used Monreal and Kolasinac as CB's.
It's a mess.

5.) 30 Dec 2017 19:20:33
A back four of Maitland-Niles, Mustafi, Koscielny and Kolasinac is our strongest option or a back three of Holding, Mustafi and Koscielny.
Debuchy should have been moved on ages ago. Chambers is very average and should go, Mertesacker is retiring at the end of the season. Monreal is too slow as a LB and looked reasonable as a spare CB in a back three, but needs replacing. If a huge offer came in for Bellerin he is easily replaceable.
Thus, the defenders I would keep would be Maitland-Niles, Mustafi, Koscielny, Holding and Kolasinac. The others woudn't feature in any of the teams in contention for a top four spot, hence they should be replaced.

As for Our Jack. I would prefer 11 of him than 11 of Sanchez any day. Well 10 and a goalkeeper. And as lobg as he can stay injury free. Just saying. He loves the club. Means a lot to me.

1.) 30 Sep 2017 21:27:56
I don't doubt Jack's words but the proof of the pudding is when a player is at the very top of thier game and stays even when the club is not at the height of its glory.
Kos and Sagna both passed that test and gave their best years to Arsenal despite having really good alternatives, Sagna was the premier league best RB for many seasons and stood by the Arsenal despite us not being at our best, Kos? Few beers CBs than him over the past 5 years and despite our lack of competiveness he's still here.
It's not until a player has a real chioce to make that you can really bang the loyalty drum.
Sagna and Kos have been externally loyal beyond any possible doubt.

Like everyone says, this season has been pants. But as a matter of interest (and I know we still have to achieve it yet) , would you be happy having the season of spuds, having a go but ultimately winning nothing, Liverpool close to one final, possible champions lge spot but winning nothing and Man. City semi-final but winning nothing or as bad as we have been sneaking into champions lge winning FACup.?

1.) 11 May 2017 22:54:28
If we sneak into the champs league and win the FA cup then no one can deny that we have had a better season than all three! That would be a fact not an opinion and it's also what the record books would tell you. It would not however prove that we are a better team than spurs this year but time will forget them and remember us. i'm going to put a tenner on us doing that with alexis been top scorer in the prem. 3 very long shots but a nice punt non the less.

2.) 11 May 2017 23:40:24
Yes the record books will show who got the prizes if we win the cup and make 4th place but will it tell the whole story? And will it reflect which fans got the most pleasure from the season?

I'd say in terms of enjoyment Chelsea Spurs Liverpool even Leicester fans given thier champions league exploits have had a good un but have we enjoyed this season?

Football is an entertainment businesses and few Arsenal fans will be shouting encore at the end of this season regardless of how it ends.
It's been awful.

3.) 12 May 2017 01:28:03
Winning the fa cup would great as well as finishing fourth but are we becoming an fa cup team with no improvement in the league or champs league. The league is a guide to how good you are and tells you if you are capable of a challenge for the title and this season and in the previous three, spuds and liverpool have put a challenge in for the whole season, we ending ours in February. that's just poor.

4.) 12 May 2017 07:07:51
Either a top four spot or an FA Cup win, will do in a difficult season. Both would be excellent and would dwarf the toot finishing in 2 nd place, but failing miserably in the cups.

5.) 12 May 2017 08:24:13
Definitely FA Cup and CL qualification.

But, Totally agree with Steve.
How many times have Barcelona and Real Madrid won Copa Del Rey?

Nobody probably knows or even remember's, but we all know when they win La Liga or CL.

That's how you measure a teams quality.

6.) 12 May 2017 09:27:56
I'm far from satisfied I'm actually dissatisfied but will take that all day long.

7.) 12 May 2017 10:12:30
As you say record books don't tell the whole story, One Direction have had more number 1 hits than the Beatles in the record books, but you can't compare the two!

8.) 12 May 2017 11:56:57
Actually the Beatles have 17 to one directions 14.

9.) 12 May 2017 16:06:43
Bod making a fool of himself once again

Not surprised.

10.) 12 May 2017 17:21:02
So which Beatles song would be Arsene signature tune?
Love love me do or No where man? :-)

11.) 12 May 2017 18:04:25
Spurs finishing 2nd has really got to you hasn't it R. G.

12.) 13 May 2017 09:48:50

In reply to Sy. I am sure this was the same ref in a game at the Emirates where an attacking player was fouled by our keeper, he let play go on because another attacker was in position to score. He missed and the ref then proceded to go back and award the penalty. Aston Villa I think. So surely he could have seen he tried and failed to score because of the innitial foul. Double standards.
