hello everyone, hope you and your families are safe and well. What are yur thoughts on martinelli. If a solid offer came in do you think we should accept or keep him. I am of the opinion that we should consider if it was a really good offer.

Hi bill hope you and family are all good…regarding martinelli. I really like the lad. and really want him to succeed. he has struggled big time for any sort of consistency over the last few seasons. ideally i'd like him to stay and find that consistency. but it’s a tough one bill… if new additions give him the kick up the backside for him to up his levels on a consistent basis then good. then on the other hand if a real top offer comes in for him and enables us to get a serious upgrade. then it would definitely need some consideration. numbers wise I wouldn’t know what sort of price he would realistically fetch….

It’s a tricky one - we need a decent LW and back up striker.

Martinelli spends too much time defending and lost his mojo going forward under Arteta. Could be a decent impact player and may be good resale value at a later point. Although we don’t really sell well. I don’t think he’s clever enough for top top level. If we start playing the ball forward faster for the new guy - could Martinelli cover as back up striker? Prefer him to Kai. Can he play striker and stay on side? Too big a risk?

Trossard should only ever be a sub and actually has a bigger impact as a sub than Martinelli. However not sure he wants to be a sub. Probably would be ok being a sub if we won trophies.

So - I am torn as more upside in Martinelli but I’d rather have Trossard on the bench than Martinelli. I’d rather neither started.

Squad will be a bit bloated if we don’t clear some of the decks. To be honest I’d be looking at Jesus, Kai, Martinelli, Merino and Trossard to see what options we have to sell and look at how tactics will change.

If we cleared some space there - Eze and LW would seriously improve our team / bench but I’m sure Kai is safe. Jesus is always injured. Merino is so slowbut can score. So we won’t sell them.

So looking at just next season - most likely: sell Martinelli and keep Trossard.

I’m a bit OTT and know it won’t happen but - I’d sell Jesus, Martinelli. Kai and Merino. Buy a back up striker, LW and may be Eze. Keep Trossard as impact sub. Really hoping to get the best out of the new striker we up our tempo and play the ball faster to feet and forward. That will mean changes in personnel.

Yes I know it’s not football manager

Hope you both are well.

Martinelli's pressing and defensive work are criminally underrated, and he only turned 24 this summer.
From a footballing perspective I'd keep him, sell Trossard and sign a starting LW. From a PSR perspective, I wouldn't be surprised if we sold him.
Hope you and yours are well, Bill!

Morning guys, I would keep Martinelli as I think a lot of his current problems stem from lack of confidence. If nothing else I'd keep him because of his incredible speed, very useful in one on one situations.
Regarding Trossard I don't think he would be happy continuing as an impact player so I'd reluctantly let him go.

I really do like Martinelli and feel that he just hasn't come back from injury as the same player. Strangely, neither had Ode. Anyway, back to Martinelli - I'd rather sell Trossard and keep Martinelli. I think that player we came to love watching is still in there.

I wonder if his mother's reported cancer battle had an impact on Odegaard last season. It's easy to forget our players have lives outside of football.

Hi Sal! I agree with you - I too would rather keep Martinelli and sell Trossard. But, that being said (as you and others have stated) , Trossard is an amazing impact sub but. would he like to continue being as such with limited game time? As for Martinelli, there is a lot of room for growth. Remember what Klopp thought of him when at Liverpool - he wanted him and could see his potential. I personally think Martinelli needs to fight for his position but at the same time bring in a starting LW so he can learn and earn his place.

SY4 - I think similar to you too! Could Martinelli develop and become a back up striker? With some integration/ opportunities in the position and physical growth (size) , I believe he could! Would he then overpass Kai or Jesus? Would we or could we dare to think "what if"?

Sorry if my sentences do not make sense. English is my second language. even if my mum is a Scot. wait. maybe that is the reason!

Hi Sally. Yes, 100% agree with you that the reported illness of his mum could've had an impact, as it would for everyone. He is still an unbelievable player. And you're so right, we sit and judge players expecting them to perform without knowing much about what they are going through away from the pitch.
