I know I have been hampering on about us signing Tielemans who, a lot of you do not rate (I think he has potential) , but aside from what I think he could (will) offer, I am livid we couldn't land Bissouma. He made the wiser decision given what was tabelled from Spurs, but it pains me considering we were linked with him last year as well. Bissouma and Partey in the defensive mid?.. you could only imagine the strength and versatility. Sounds like I'll be "imagining" a little while longer now.

Bissouma is a very good player, but we have pretty decent stocks in defensive mid and Partey is the clear first choice. We need a Xhaka upgrade to play in that left 8 role, which is why I think the club is prioritising Tielemaans who suits that position better than Bissouma.

Hi all! Long time, no post. I apologise for being a bit MIA. It's probably because I was previously adamant about Tielemans coming through (yes. silly I know) before ever hearing of the links with Rice etc and think to myself. hell. I'm going to cop some slack. especially because I live in Australia and we are well behind the times with the news. Nevertheless, we all make mistakes although it will be interesting to see how he (Tielemans) fairs at Villa.
Regardless, I wanted to ask, if we only had one more player to bring in, who would it be? OR. what position do you think we need to invest in? Would love to hear your thoughts and reasonings.
PS: Love your work on this site eds. I've been viewing this site every year for the past 6 years at least and have enjoyed all your valuable insights. Oh and the odd weird banter from Malaga Gooner, Raver and those who are no longer with us.
Lots of love, Corbs Adelaide Gooner.

Hello Corbs mate
Personally for me an out and out striker/ target man that gives you a different option.
A young Oliver Giroud would fit the bill.
Having said that very very pleased with our transfer business so far.
Most pleasing of all for me that we got our main business done early.
Congratulations on keeping the ashes
(I am saying that thru clenched teeth) ????.

Hey Adelaide mate, how’s it going?
30 May 2022 14:24:14
I don't know what it is but I have a really good feeling of us signing Tielemans. I posted to the eds asking if we had interest in him, which we do. But. I'd love to know your thoughts as to whether he would be a quality acquisition. I've watched him since he played for Anderlecht and he's got the capabilities that's for sure.
1.) 30 May 2022 14:38:10
I agree mate, would be a great fit for this team. Got all the right elements.
2.) 30 May 2022 15:13:49
100% mate. I should have also mentioned and thanked the eds who stated that whilst we do have sustained interest in Tielemans, he is also on the radar of several other clubs.
{Ed002's Note - Youri Tielemans (CM) right now he will not sign a new contract so will be available in the summer at a reduced fee if he doesn't change his mind. His agent confirmed that there is interest from Real Madrid who are looking for a Luka Modric replacement, interest from Spurs and that he has been approached by a third party representing Newcastle. He is aware that other clubs, including Bayern Munich and Liverpool, have scouted the player but not declared an interest. Interest of the Manchester sides has probably gone as both are looking at other midfield options. Arsenal and Juventus provide wildcard options but Arsenal will have to focus on fixing other issues in the squad first and Juventus, whilst needing significant midfield changes are looking to preferred options. I suspect that Real Madrid will shift their interest leaving Spurs and Arsenal to work on a transfer.}
3.) 30 May 2022 15:24:47
As always ed002 I greatly appreciate your insight. Thank you!
4.) 30 May 2022 15:30:23
I wouldn’t be upset with that signing. However, I still prefer Bissouma, in that he works like an absolute trojan, allowing other players, like an Ode, to go do their thing further up the pitch. Can we be greedy and get both, and we can always recoup some outlay by shipping Xhaka out?
5.) 30 May 2022 16:07:33
Tough ask especially when out priorities lie elsewhere. Unfortunately, I do not see Xhaka being shipped out soon either.
6.) 30 May 2022 18:44:09
Your probably right CAB, in which case, if it’s one midfielder, and there was a chance of getting Bissouma, I would take him every time over Tielemans. I just think he plugs a really important gap more than Tielemans would.
{Ed014's Note - not a fan of Tielemens myself.
7.) 30 May 2022 18:50:34
I'd expect most clubs would want to wait until the investigation into Bissouma is concluded before moving for him, obviously innocent until proven guilty, but a pretty risky move before then.
8.) 31 May 2022 11:55:00
What investigating.
9.) 31 May 2022 20:47:27
They didn't post my reply, I assume they don't want me to say on here, but you will be able to find it by searching for him.
10.) 31 May 2022 23:06:02
It’s obviously a reason for any club to be cautious, but this has been going on a while, and in between he was allowed to leave the country to play at Afcon, so I would assume if there was hard evidence he would already have been charged.

Couldn't agree more Sal! I would love for Martinelli to be pushed up top through the middle. Imagine his flair, passion and desire to prove himself. He just needs the opportunity and a consistent opportunity at that.
03 Jun 2025 11:05:10
Hi Sal,
if you were to keep one of Martinelli or Partey, then who would you choose and why?
For me it is Partey. However, if we land Zuba then I wonder if Partey would be reduced to a bit-part roll in the squad.
In saying that, I like Martinelli - for me I think he could be moulded into a central attacker where could really chase some amibition and thrive. I would hate to see him move to a rival club in the Prem where he could succeed. If he is to move on, then best to go abroad.
That being said, we could potentially receive a nice sum from him. But. who would we bring in? Does he stand a better chance of staying than Trossard as LW? We can't let both leave surely? (Trossard and Martinelli) .
Would love to know your insight as I feel like your approach and way of thinking about things from different angles (that a lot of us donuts don't consider) are insightful.
{Ed014's Note - Martinelli is a definite keeper for me, works so hard for the team, great squad player at least.

Hi Sal! I agree with you - I too would rather keep Martinelli and sell Trossard. But, that being said (as you and others have stated) , Trossard is an amazing impact sub but. would he like to continue being as such with limited game time? As for Martinelli, there is a lot of room for growth. Remember what Klopp thought of him when at Liverpool - he wanted him and could see his potential. I personally think Martinelli needs to fight for his position but at the same time bring in a starting LW so he can learn and earn his place.
SY4 - I think similar to you too! Could Martinelli develop and become a back up striker? With some integration/ opportunities in the position and physical growth (size) , I believe he could! Would he then overpass Kai or Jesus? Would we or could we dare to think "what if"?
Sorry if my sentences do not make sense. English is my second language. even if my mum is a Scot. wait. maybe that is the reason!
11 Jun 2025 14:49:13
You're a good man SY and a lot of what you write aligns with what I think - you wear your corazon outside yourself. That aside let's be positive and get behind our boys. No other posters from different clubs has or have (IMO) the same passion as what use posters share on this site. We need to get behind the board and our boys and be optimistica about what lays ahead. Onwards and upwards carnal (you'll need to look that term up as English is not my first language) .

Thanks Ed, I appreciate your insight and clarity. :)
{Ed001's Note - very welcome.}
11 Jun 2025 12:47:58
Hang a min Highbury. weren't Real in contention to sign Zubimendi? Have we beaten them to his signature or?
I personally believe we can compete with the best/ attract the best, but I also think we dilly dally around the bush and try and buy a Rolls Royce for a pence!
{Ed001's Note - no, Madrid never wanted him. The hold up was that he wanted to play for Xabi Alonso and waited while his agent asked if they were interested in signing him, but Madrid decided not to make a move for him.}
07 Jun 2025 08:21:40
Hahahah Sus. i did say before Tielemans signed for Villa that I'd take him. That being said, would you take him in our team? If so, where would he fit? If not to take him, why no?
