Latest nonsense, we are reportedly trying to sign Benfica CB Ruben Dias, who has a £54m release clause. Apparently we are trying to negotiate a fee lower than the amount contained in the clause and want the fee to be spread over a period, opposed to all up front. What next? We ask to sign him on loan?
I don't know who is carrying out the negotiations at the club, but it isn't working.
It's getting increasingly desperate with only 26 days before the window closes.
Sign Cedric Soares, Tierney, Lamina, Dias and Saha. All appear to be available at a max total cost of approx £180m. We can recoup funds by selling, if possible, Elneny, Chambers, Koscielny, Mustafi and Mkhitaryan for approx £80m. That leaves £100m to pay, which after deducting the £45m funds, means Kroenke has to provide £55m.

The vast majority of transfers are paid in installments these day ARG.
And unfortunately apart from Chambers nobody wants those players you mentioned. And nobody will pay the same wages we pay them. there's more chance of Stan putting his hand in his pocket.

What can we do for free and without bringing in any new players to improve ourselves next season on last season.
Surely that's the most sensible place to begin.
Different tactics to the ones that didn't work last season
Different coaching methods that obviously didn't bring out the best in the players we had/ have last season.
I'm sure if Gardiola was for some strange reason forced to be Manchester United manager next season and told he couldn't leave until he finished top 4 and only had the players he had when he arrived I'm sure he wouldn't try to install his preferred football philosophy on the players he inherited he'd adapt his ways to get the job done in anyway possible, then run for the hills ;-) .
It's not always possible to do what you would like to do in the way you would like to do it, sometimes you need to adapt and comprises and simply get the job done, then build on that solid foundation slowly but surely.

Very true g62. We do need more organisation and structure with our defending and i get that new players won't fix bad coaching, but if I see a backline with AMN Mustafi socratis and Kol with xhaka and matteo in front for protection then I have no hopefor the season. Just need to get a couple of players and build some optimism.

Absolutely Paddy, upgrades would be very welcome mate but like we both say changing the faces but not the failed methods are unlikely to bring a different outcome.
One of the biggest criticisms of Arsene was he kept doing what didn't work over and over again surely it's madness for his successor to follow his lead.
