Elneny to Leicester?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2019 20:47:05
I bet its on loan. Lol.

28 Jan 2019 21:12:15
I was excited for a minute I thought you said Emery to Leicester:-)

28 Jan 2019 23:40:11
Why does no one like emery I think he is doing a great job.

28 Jan 2019 23:59:05
I like Dick, i think he's doing a great job, i can see what he is trying to do and i also accept he hamstrung until the summer. The faults he came into with the team and club are not going away over night. Under wenger, we weren't in games against the top six, we are now and that's with players that he may not want. I can see he has a plan, wenger never had a plan, i can see he is strong in his decision making and is trying everything he can with the hand he was dealt.

{Ed0333's Note - so you like dick Steve?

29 Jan 2019 01:39:23
Yes ed0333, but only the managerial kind. I play with a straight bat. Lol.

{Ed0333's Note - to be fair I like Dick too. I think the guy needs a chance to prove himself.

With you most of the way there Steve. I think Wenger had a plan, but as he got older he became less able to adapt. One thing is for sure, he was staggeringly bad at identifying which big money signings would improve the team. Compare some of our bigger late-Wenger signings (Mustafi) with the past (Lauren, Rosicky) and the decline is quite obvious.

29 Jan 2019 06:07:00
He was on a hiding to nothing taking over from Wenger and with a board reluctant to give him the funds he needs to rebuild. Give him 3 years and then make a judgement I reckon.

29 Jan 2019 07:53:47
Emery is doing a great job with the team he has inherited and you have to take in to account the injuries he's had to face as well. Rob Holding being the biggest loss imo. People seriously need to give him a chance.

29 Jan 2019 08:01:52
It's not a case of not liking him I'm Just disappointed that he doesn't seem anymore capable of building a defensive unit than Arsene was.
We desperately needed a manager who appreciated the art and value of a solid defence, Arsene built on the back of the very solid foundation of 1 0 to the Arsenal era then let it run to rack and ruin in pursuit of out scoring everyone and so far it seems Dick has no more love of the defensive side of the game than Arsene had.
Liverpool and City have spent as heavily on defence as they have attack because Pep and Jurgen know one without the other isn't viable for title challenging.

I totally agree Gunner be he hasn't had much of chance to change that from a players perspective. We have been crying out for a defensive midfielder and Torreira was brought in. We were crying out for a GK and Leno was brought in. We needed some more defensive cover and Sokratis was brought in. The trouble is we actually have a lot of players in defence so without moving some on, it's hard to keep adding. Bellerin, Monreal, Kos, Sokratis, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Holding, Lich, Jenkinson, Mavropanos plus 3 youngsters have been promoted to the first team, Osei-Tutu, Medley and Pleguezuelo. 13 defenders. We can't just keep buying. I think we will see an overhaul defensively in the summer with Jenkinson, Monreal and possibly Mustafi leaving. Kos maybe but he loves the club so might stick around for another season to provide cover in cup games etc. Emery needs time, he can't do anything miraculous defensively straight away when 90% of the players at his disposal can't defend.

The club was left in a financial mess by Gazidis and Emery. I read today that the pay off for Wenger and his backroom staff totalled £17.5m. The signings made by Emery and his team were remarkable for an outlay of only £70m. The wage bill Emery inherited is absurdly high. Ozil and Mkhitaryan are hugely overpaid and we still have to pay useless Jenkinson, etc.
I am certain that Emery would like to sign many more players and release others, but his hands are tied by the financial constraints, which will ease a little in the summer as sponsorship deals with Addidas and Emirates kick in. I would only expect another £70m, plus any sales. I would like to see us sell Ozil, Elneny, and Jenkinson (if possible) . We need to let Lichtsteiner and Welbeck go as it's the end of their deals and Ramsey is off. Others that need to step up or be shipped out are Mkhitaryan and Martinez. The scale of the job Emery has to do is huge and we must be patient.

I totally agree he can't wave a magic wand and simply improve our defence by magic Glen mate but I do get frustrated by the lack of commitment to improve our weakest department that has and will always stop us having any chance of being more than also rans.
Xhaka being the only player to start every game under both Arsene and Dick and our defensive disarray doesn't seem to bother Dick unduly Just as it didn't Arsene either.
For me it's a case of no defensive improvement no improvement in our competitiveness as I can never ever remember a title winning team that were extremely poor at the back and relied totally on out scoring every opponent 5 4 or 4 3.

29 Jan 2019 12:54:03
RG is that a typo? The financial situation of the club is not remotely Emery's fault.

29 Jan 2019 15:32:17
Wire - Yes, well spotted, it should have read 'Wenger' not Emery.
I have been extremely impressed by Emery, who bought well last summer and needs the opportunity to form his own squad and replace failing players from the Wenger era.

30 Jan 2019 03:30:19
I’m all in favour of giving Emery time, but I fail to understand what has he done better. Everybody portrays him as a tactically adept manager, of which he has shown no signs of. He was outplayed completely by Ole in the ManU match. And does he know what is his favoured formation? I would like to hear your opinions.

30 Jan 2019 04:59:40
He's often gotten it wrong to start matches but his substitutions have been (largely) perfect and the number of points we have recovered from losing positions is, if I'm not mistaken, highest in the league. His biggest fault is not preempting the opposition as we tend to take around 45 minutes to work out how best to play. Once we do however we take it up several gears and by the 60th minute I think we outplay most teams we come up against.

The only criticism I have of Emery is how he's handled the Ozil situation although that may not be entirely his fault, and how we start games (but crucially not how we finish them) . I think the board made an excellent decision in appointing him and keep in mind how difficult it is to replace a club legend like Wenger, just ask Man U.

30 Jan 2019 19:47:05
Dick has got the players working harder no question about that and he is quick to admit when he's made a mistake in his starting line up by making early subs (which happens a lot) but apart from that I can't see any change at all we look good going forwards but extremely vulnerable at the back.
