Eds, Can Adrian Raboit play as a defensive midfielder!? And what's happening on the his transfer front!? Is Arsenal interested, very able back up for Arteta and can take his place in future.

Sen

{Ed025's Note - he can play DM sen, and inquiries have been made, but nothing has come of it yet..

1.) Thanks a lot Ed025. Him, Manolas and Reus would make us more than title contenders! 😊

How good is Marco Verratti? Which is his best position? EDs any interest in him from Arsenal?

Sen

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal showed sone interest last year before he moved. If he is available it will be to Real Madrid or to Juventus.}

You have to see this first 25 mins on how good Xhaka is, as a DLP. Every things forward has gone through him. Yeah, I understand he can’t tackle, but that’s why he needs Torreira with him. DLPs doesn’t need to be a great tacklers. Jorginho doesn’t tackle good but he did awesome with Napoli, or for that matter Pirlo (mind I’m not comparing Xhaka with Pirlo) as well.

Just remember with his reckless pass almost costed as a goal today. But did ok today over all.

Hi Guys,

I would love to understand why there so much Xhaka hate, I really feel he’s great at what he does and he’s being criticised unfairly.

Your opinions, pls.

Thanks.

Sen

1.) 22 Feb 2019 08:35:33
Personally I find it as baffling Trying to understand what you do see in him as it is for you to understand what 95% of fans and pundits don't see in him.

I've really tried to see what the other 5% see but no matter how much I watch him I just can't see what it is that you think is so good Sen mate.
To me he's not even Marmite because even marmite is 50/ 50, he's more like a salt sandwich, I just can't see the appeal at all.

2.) 22 Feb 2019 09:28:15
I think most people's opinion of Xhaka was formed when Wenger played him as our only DM. He lacks pace and isn't great at tackling, so he struggled badly. He also has 99% great distribution, but that 1% usually means he's put us in a very bad position.

However I think since Emery paired him and Torreira he's played like a new man, he's far less exposed now and when he plays we move the ball really well. Ultimately I think he has to work to improve his positioning and cut out the stupid mistakes but I think he's been quite good this season and it takes a while for opinions to change.

3.) 22 Feb 2019 14:32:30
Xhaka is no doubt a superb passer and plays with 110% passion. He can definitely dictate the play against teams who play deep, however he crumbles when he is put under pressure from opposition midfielders/ attackers (which is something a lot of the better teams do now in the prem) . He tends to be caught out in possession a lot, and considering how deep he drops to pick up the ball, dispossession can lead to goal scoring opportunities for the opposition. I personally don't feel like he's adapted to this in his 3 seasons so far, and therefore feel like he is a liability against the better, pressing teams. Seems like one of those players to me that would flourish in most leagues but unfortunately not the premier league.

4.) 22 Feb 2019 17:49:52
I stuck up for him as I though Wenger let him down by playing him out of position. We miss him when he doesn’t play as we have no creativity or organisational plan. But to be fair, he just doesn’t think quick enough for EPL. I have to say I was wrong and agree with what Steve was saying about him years ago. I stuck up for him and will do no more. He’s probably our best option at present but we need to upgrade. Hence w miss him but he’s not the answer. Think that’s probably why Emery sticks with him.
I am more concerned that he picks Iwobi over Ozil or others over Rambo and Ozil leaving us threadbare of creativity and no more cover in defence.

5.) 23 Feb 2019 05:10:25
sen i would be interested to know what you regard as "hes great at what he does" his tackling and positioning is really poor and has often left us in trouble and has caused him problems through out his career with regular red cards and as a deep midfielder is an essential atribute whether you regard that as out of position is a debate, but its where he's been deployed the most in his career. his passing is also overrated his percentages are bulked up by frequent sideways passes and he often makes lazy misplaced passes that once again leave us in trouble, he's made 7 errors leading to goals in the league since he's been here the most of our players, he's an absolute liability.

6.) 23 Feb 2019 09:02:58
He's a salt sarnie Eden but strangely some people enjoy him, It's bizarre how some people really rate a player while the majority struggle to see anything in them at all.
I genuinely rated Emile Heskey and always thought England played betrer as a team with him than without him but nearly all my mates moaned when he was selected, Emile yes but Xhaka I'm struggling with, and I've tried hard to see what is good about him too.

7.) 23 Feb 2019 15:04:23
Heskey strikes me as a bit like giroud, players loved playing with him, because he was unselfish and worked hard for the team. But rarely did anything eye catching to excite fans and when your a striker who doesn't score goals that's all that stands out to fans. maybe a bit harsh on giroud, remember that scorpion kick!? 😊.

8.) 24 Feb 2019 04:24:14
He passes sideways consistently as though he cares more about stats than winning, and at least one every game he will give the ball away in a daft position gifting the opposition a very good chance on goal. That, added to the fact that he brings the team nothing more than an extra body, make his repeated selection utterly baffling.

I really like people here to give credit and support is for what we have and are. This game showed that we still like to fight!

Sen

{Ed0333's Note - Credit to Arsene perhaps Sen?

1.) 18 Nov 2017 14:45:10
Credit to Wenger, players and fans - lots of great performances especially Ozil.

2.) 18 Nov 2017 14:53:39
Yes sen this game showed we still like to fight, when it suits us and not every week. It was a great performance but it is arsenal under wenger in a nutshell.

3.) 18 Nov 2017 16:27:45
Your not wrong Steve but today is one of Arsenes and his Arsenals rare golden days to be fully enjoyed.
Much like the Chelsea result earlier in the season.
There has been much to find fault with for a long time now but today is all about enjoying an unexpected bonus performance and result.

I can understand people praising Kante, but I just can't understand why people are slagging Xhaka. I do feel Xhaka is a lot more consistent on a higher level and would suit our style of play than Kante who had just one good season with Leicester! Opinions!?

Sen

{Ed001's Note - no, Kante had one great season that you know of, he had played well for years prior to that, which brought attention from all over the world. If he had not been so short, he could have been an Arsenal player a couple of years ago. Xhaka, on the other hand, has never shown anything like the same level of performance at any time in his career, that Kante had last season. You just can't compare the two, Kante was the best central midfielder in Europe last season, Xhaka wasn't even in the running. They aren't even similar types of players really anyway, Kante is non-stop running and all action, Xhaka is more about being big and strong and trying to intimidate opponents by kicking anything that moves. So you may well be right, Xhaka might be a better fit for Arsenal, but Kante deserves all the praise he gets.}

1.) 30 Aug 2016 07:55:29
Ed01,

Just out of interest do you know if any other clubs, not Arsenal, attempted to get Kante or was he set on Chelsea.

He was fantastic last year and with, I think, their respective release clauses, probably the two of the best performing mids in Europe, Mykitaryan and Kante would have been the easiest of transfers.

It makes me wonder why one club didn't go for both at a combined £60 odd million.

{Ed001's Note - he wanted Chelsea for some reason.}

2.) 30 Aug 2016 12:37:22
Sen I love them red colured specs, but xhaka has a massive mountain to climb to get near kante. You and me and millions of others can witness it over the next season. Not saying he can't just saying he hasnt. Thanks ed01 for your wise words.

3.) 30 Aug 2016 20:14:54
Steve
As per Ed - he WANTED Chelsea so move on and he's a different player to Granit. Kante is awesome but I didn't want him as I didn't think he fitted into what we were missing - I believe Granit does but doesn't mean he's a better signing. Either way - sounds like he wanted Chelsea so strike that off your "I hate Wenger for the following reasons list" ;)

4.) 30 Aug 2016 23:02:01
Xhaka looks to be an excellent signing. Don't forget it takes most players a season to bed into the PL. Holding looks an awesome aquisition and I am looking forward to seeing Mustafi and Perez. This is the type of window us fans like, as we want to see new blood in the squad. Hopefully, for all his faults, Wenger signs a new 3 year deal. I dread the future without him at the helm.

10 Jul 2016 20:34:27
I've always heard Sissoko want to join Arsenal. He's been awesome for Newcastle in EPL and for France in Euro! Just need opinions of you all about him, and eds about his transfer!?

Sen

{Ed001's Note - he does not do enough for my liking. Reminds me of Yaya Toure, can be incredible, but can't be arsed most weeks to bother breaking sweat and so you have to carry him.}

1.) 10 Jul 2016 20:49:20
Is he what we need? Our MF is pretty congested as it is and although I'd make an exception for Pogba or Inesta we really have to find a CF CB and naturally RMF player before we worry about anything else.

2.) 10 Jul 2016 20:53:54
Thanks for the reply, Ed! This first half he's had a wonderful game!

3.) 10 Jul 2016 21:12:46
Crap at Toon but been good at Euro's.

Shop window?

4.) 10 Jul 2016 21:17:56
I think you were very polite there Ed, he really has never been awsome, not ever in the EPL, but looks great at the euros. Possibly has a twin brother.

{Ed001's Note - I meant to say 'could be incredible' rather than can.}

5.) 10 Jul 2016 21:35:30
Thanks for clarifying, and yes, he could be!

6.) 10 Jul 2016 21:43:05
I understand you, Ed! He went totally missing in the second half!

{Ed001's Note - that is what he does. Newcastle would be very happy to sell.}

7.) 10 Jul 2016 22:58:54
i'd love him as a squad player tbh. Probably small money compared to a lot of other options, powerful physique and capable of dynamite runs. Would definitely add depth to us. Don't think he's good enough for first team regular for the reasons mentioned above but maybe in a "larger" setup there'd be a fire lit under him, especially if he has to fight for a place.

8.) 11 Jul 2016 01:05:20
Replacement for ox or walcott would be interesting, at least he would be available to play. We need some power and pace too.

9.) 11 Jul 2016 16:27:19
Newcastle have put a 35mill price tag on cissoko lol for 1 good game really.

10.) 12 Jul 2016 13:30:51
Great player, probably has a stinky attitude because he's still playing at a club well beneath him. Correct me if I'm wrong but was it him who scored a brave against Chelsea on his Newcastle debut? Definitrly has been incredible and can be still - agree with the fact that most of the time he doesn't look arsed though!

@G62: Can’t the same can be said to Auba, Laca as well? How can you blame a particular player for the misgiving or underperformance of a team? I don’t understand.

If Ben White rumours are true, Saliba won’t be in Emirates next season. If not, this transfer doesn’t make any sense at all. And to replace Rob with a 50M CB doesn’t make sense either.

Arteta has himself blamed and scolded the press for putting unsubstantiated content which he never happened inside the club.

First, I don't understand purchasing players would solve any of our problem. It's a system issue which has to be addressed. Even VVD might not able to save a team if the system is not right. We just need to understand how LFC or MCFC play collectively both in their defence and attack.
Second, we have Koscielny, Papastathopoulos, Holding, Mavrapanos, Pleguezuelo, Chambers and Mustafi for CB position. Even if we sell Mustafi, we have ample number of CBs to make a difference. Technically, Holding and Mavrapanos are a fantastic CBs who can improved a great deal, I would put Pleguezuelo on the same boat. He just hasn't got minutes to prove them yet. And as you can see Chambers has been doing well in Fulham as a DM, and don't forget he can play RB and did well with us in seasons before.
So I feel the mandatory position to fill coming summer would be the LB more than anything.
We did very well with a midfield diamond with the resources which we had against LFC, CFC and THFC. Only Unai knows how he wants us to take forward, and based on that we need to buy right personnel.

Inputs appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Bissouma is very similar to Partey and Lokonga. And is an African as well. We need someone with different skillsets, that’s why Locatelli links! Rather Koopmeiners than Bissouma. Saying this we have lot of players to ship.

We can ask Grealish for ESR + 15-20M; With this deal, we have a better replacement and can buy another youngster for a lesser money! Just a thought, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Keeping Elneny and selling Xhaka!? Odd. And Rodrigo De Paul over Buendia.

Sen

{Ed014's Note - if we got an upgrade on xhaka would he be happy being a squad player, is Elneny ok with being squad player?

That’s likely the reason.
