There appears to be lots of hysterical reactions to the game against city! Not just from posters on here but all over MSM as well. It was the first competitive game under a new manager and a new regime not only was it the first game but it was against the best team in the country. Now whilst I agree that the playing out from the back was suicidal against city it is the style that emery wants to adopt so there’s no point in trying to achieve it when the first game comes. Just cast your memory back to the season before last when pep was been hugely criticised by all for not changing his approach and city were getting mauled for doing the same thing playing out from the back and loosing lots of games and giving silly goals away. That all changed last season when the rest of the prem bar Liverpool could cope with it . We will get more of an opinion when we play Chelsea next as there is not much between both teams. I’m actually glad that we didn’t just buy 8/ 9 players this window as it’s hard to gel so many players straight away and it gives time for emery to work out who needs to go and what we need to bring in. I’m still hopeful that we can challenge for a top 4 slot as it will speed up the transitional period and build some much needed confidence. For me this season is a two horse race between city and Liverpool.

Totally agree mate, Pep got loads of criticism in his first season for sticking to his way of playing but what's the point in a manager who does stuff to please his critics rather than do what he feels is right.
It makes me laugh how people scream and shout he should do this that the other but if he took thier advice and things went wrong they'd be the first to criticise him for not being true to what he believed in :-) .
We would all like something to celebrate this season, like top 4 or Europa league winners but have we really become such short sighed fans that we can't see beyond the here and now? Building anything worth having takes time and if you rush the builder too much then you'll probably end up with something pretty useless as an end product.

It’s true mate. people need only have memory’s of the past 5 seasons to understand how volatile the prem is. Go and read back 4-5 years on the Liverpool page. Liverpool look every bit as good as city. And city now look like a team, I was never to worried about the Saudi money and in the beginning it looked poor investment against returns. It’s personnel and getting the right people in.

Couldn’t agree more mate, it’s going to take time, so people have come out with some utter tosh about it.

I think many of those (not all) who are unhappy with Emery so quickly would have been unhappy with whoever came in.
Many of those who were happy with Arsene either want changed to be proved right immediately to make it worth it while and some others are still so hurt by Arsene virtually being forced out they can't wait for the new man to fail and are using Emery to vent thier displeasure at.
If Arsene had walked 100% willingly I think there would be much more patience and support for Dick.

The game against city was invaluable to the way we learn how to play out, how to press and generally to play how UE wants us to. He can show the team the mistakes that were made so they can learn from them, to show things that can be improved on. That’s the best way to learn, alright the result wasn’t ideal but I think in the long run will benefit us.

Top post magpie, when you have a list of jobs to do it's always a good idea to start off with the toughest job of the day first because that way your day keeps getting better and better as you go through it.

The only way for the playerwill learn, if they want too, is by rectifying their errors. Its the mindset of some players that i think is the main problem. The cozy club mentality will be hard to knock out of some. They to me are here for themselves not arsenal football club. But Dick is the best man to do that i have been baffled by some of his decisions but impressed by his attitude.

It will take time to fully disband the cosy club Steve, some will manage the change while others will be shipped out either sold or loaned out. This time next year they will be of the past one way or the other.

I think over the next year or so we will see the cozy club disbanded!

The critisium from these so called pundits is way over the top, especially when most of them have never managed a big club. Give Emery some time for god sake it is going take a while to knock that comfy attitude out of the squad that Wenger established over the last few seasons, it is most likely a shock to the system for many of the player but they have to get on board quickly like it or not. Emery is going to learn fast over the next 10 or so games who he can rely on and who is expendable.
