The Wilshere situation typifies how badly we have been run for many seasons in terms of players contracts. At the end of the season we have Wilshere and Mertesacker out of contract, Ramsey, Welbeck and others down to a year to run.
Wilshere has reportedly been offered a reduced basic wage, when he has proved his fitness and what would he cost to replace in the club's depleted squad?
Meanwhile Wenger extended Cazorla's deal by a year when he failed to make a single appearance and is now talking of giving him a new deal if he can prove his fitness. Wenger, wake up, you have a fit 26 year old international player and a player who nearly lost part of his leg and is 34 this year. Keep Wilshere and give him a decent contract. If we lose Wilshere, Ramsey and Welbeck this summer, we could be in real trouble, as we need as many as 8 players to come in and under Wenger that simply won't happen and even a new manager will have difficulty signing and integrating so many players. Ox and Debuchy typify the problem with Wenger, both are playing well with their new clubs. Ox could play in the semi-final of the CL and the way Debuchy is playing he could make the French World Cup squad.

{Ed0333's Note - I think it will be two seasons before we see Arsenal getting back to winning ways, I’m sure you will add quality this summer. You have made excellent appointments in the scouting department which will reap dividends. I’m adamant there are exciting times ahead for Arsenal fans but a lot hinges on Wengers departure and also who the new man is.

I’d have a fit Santi Cazorla over Jack Wilshere every day of the week and twice on Sundays, he has more ability in his big toe than Jack has in his whole body and whilst being out injured probably still has better stats than him!

If and I appreciate it’s a big if, he does get fit then he is worth a years contract, he’s only 33 and Wilshere just needs to be moved on, he’s currently hopeless and offering nothing.

Sorry Sanogo mate. 😔.

I agree Stoner, that Santi over Jack, but Santi has been almost perpetually injured since 2015 and has not featured since October 2016 when he injured his Achilles' tendon, fast approaching 2 years ago, requiring numerous operations, including reconstructive surgery to the tendon to replace part of it which became infected. So with almost 3 years on the sidelines and turning 34 in a matter of months it is time to let him move on. Whereas Jack has proved his fitness this season and at 26 has many years ahead of him.

Arsene has made bizarre decisions on players rewarding players who are long term injury prone new contracts while allowing our best players contracts to run down Iwobi is used continously while Joel Campbell and Gnarby couldn't get a look in unless there was no other possible option.
We are now in a place where the club is split in fractions rather than down the middle some fans have already drifted away from the club others don't want us to win the europa league because it might save Arsenes job while others want to win it but not if it saves Arsene and others still are happy with what ever we do as long as Arsene is out manager.
Some fans think we are just a couple of players away others think we are a couple of players plus a new manager away while others think we are miles away and a new manager will only be the beginning of a long journey back to being a real force in the game again.
What the club needs most importantly of all right now is unifying, the waring fractions need to be brought back together for a common cause because I don't think the club has another season of toal apathy left in it.
You only have to read the posts on here or talk to friends and fellow Arsenal fans to see the passion is fading fast and this season it's really picked up speed as the emirates is only 2/ 3 full, this time last year who'd have thought that possible? But this time next year will it be only half or a third full if we simply carry on as we are? No one knows but the trend suggests it's a good possibility.

More than anything else the club needs to bring everyone back on the same side to end the apathy and bring back the passion for the club, they have to find someone both the players and fans can all unite behind which isn't going to be easy to do, but there is one thing for certain, if uniting the fractions that are Arsenal football club looks difficult now just imagine how much bigger it will be this time next year if we simply just carry on as always again.

I can understand them only offering him a lower basic wage with performance add ons to bring it up to similar to it is now, I know that means he's unlikely to sign, because someone else will offer him more on a free and that will leave a hole that will be hard to fill and more expensive than just giving him a raise. But he's hardly justified a raise, he had barely played until this year and up until then I think almost everyone but sanogo would of snapped the hand off anyone who offered anything for him. It looked like diaby all over again, just a sick note taking up a squad place, but he has proved his fitness and I hope he signs although that could all change quite quickly with his injury record. So giving him a big contract would be madness imo. I also haven't seen him linked with any top team even though he will be free.

Jack isn't suddenly important to us because of how good he is or what an outstanding season he's had its only what a poor state Arsenal are in that makes Jack makes look vital.
At the start of the season no one but Sanogo cared if Jack stayed or went but over this season he's become an important player again simply because of how poor the rest of our midfield has been shown to be.
I've read Wolves are interested in Jack but I've not read much about City United Spurs Chelsea Liverpool trying to capture his signature just yet, which I think puts things into a little perspective, vital to Arsenal but certainly not being coutterd by the teams above us as yet despite being available on a free, that's got to show us something surely?

Save salary of both and bring in Ruben Nevez. He would be a great fit. He is better than Xhaka, can tackle but has an all round skill set better than any of our central midfielders.

Same g62, I've only seen Everton and wolves linked to him and a few foreign clubs, but also not a top team.
