Guys I have got 2 questions :-
1. Is Morata the striker that will give us 20 plus goals a season &
2. Do we really need a left back, Ricardo Rodriguez from a Wolfberg. Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

1) i reckon he can be that player, i like his intelligence and movement. i'm more intrigued as to how he would give our offense that balance of technical ability, a bit of pace not theo pace but clever use of ball to create space and hold a run and his ability to not choke in big games, or from what i have seen from him in big games. he wants game time we want to give him a chance and if he does crack the big time we know he won't hesitate to head back to madrid and that is the drawback.

2) i'm not sure about him, yes we should get him and see if it works, with bellerin and rodriguez its almost like we are playing 2-5-3 and we normally struggle when our defense is isolated imagine double teamed. anyway wenger should have something in mind to utilize him, or maybe he is our new striker.

"he wants game time we want to give him a chance"

This is the problem, we need to buy a proved goal scorer. He is not the solution to our problems and isn't any better than the players we have at present.

as ed002 explained transfers don't just work with money, the player has to be available or want to leave the club, you have to meet his ambitions and you have to pay the guy top dollar.

so the big strikers are all slotted in at man city or chelsea and spurs will never sell to us or Barcelona and PSG or madrid

if any of those players are available the first clubs they think of are the spanish 2 or bayern, then we have Manchester United and then possibly the rest.

i can only look at Manchester United who needed a striker last season and had to settle for martial who will be a good player but they had to pay big bucks for potential. it only shows the striker market is limited and those players already play for big clubs.

so the option of Morata who is potential is a good deal.

im not sure about aubameyang but i read recently man city want him but he is waiting for a move to madrid.

so its not as easy as people suggest.

Laker has already outlined the main issues when it comes to signing players, and touched on the biggest issue of all; the lack of top notch forwards.

Even if we as fans can identify who's top quality and who is not we've got to remember we, for the most part, have little idea if a move for that player is even possible.

Morata is a good player and is still young, he'd be a fantastic addition to the squad. He's also got the one attribute the rest of our squad seem to lack; he shows up in big games!

If everyone is so set against Morata it'd be interesting to see who would be the desired targets with an explanation of why.

1) no I don't think Morata could bang in 20+ a season yet but he has potential with time on his side. I'd say he's on par with giroud at the moment but again has time to develop into a fine fine player. We could do better

2) we don't need to waste money on a LB if Nacho and Gibbs are still happy, both players can cover that position well enough. I'd rather stick that extra 15m on the striker budget and get the best out there.

@sforza, mate I am not against Morata, it is just that I have not seen him play so just wanted to know. &
As far as Ricardo Rodriguez goes I have feeling he might be another Mathieu Debuchy, a player not required for the team when he was purchased. After the experience of Last few years of how Arsenal act in Transfer market we generally don't purchase a player which is needed for the team, it took Wenger nearly 7-8 years to realize that we needed a world class goal keeper, and it is nearly 4 years since RVP left that we are shouting that Giroud is not good enough for arsenal. Thanks.

I think every Arsenal fan the world over knows we need a better calibre of striker but the problem is where to find one. The already top class ones are already at big clubs so it's either take a punt on a somewhat unproven one or pay for potential.

@BH: I agree with you on Rodriguez. It'd apparently take a substantial bid to prise him away from Wolfsburg and he's far too much of a gamble. One of the Eds (I've forgot which) pointed out his defensive skills are lacking a little, and we've already got too many defenders with that asterisk by their names!

I really like the idea of Morata, for me he's an upgrade on Giroud based on currently ability alone. He shows up in big games and he also runs in behind, something we don't do often enough without Theo in the team.

03 Jun 2016 16:52:45
1) I am not convinced by Morata, he would be worth a punt if he were cheaper. However, I have heard that we are in negotiations at present.
2) Rodriguez, yes or sure. I am not at all convinced by either of our current LB's. For those that question his defensive ability, he is top drawer, able to keep on his feet rather than dive in and simply take the ball off the opponents feet. Wilshere should learn from this method, instead of diving in and getting injured.

03 Jun 2016 17:22:30
If we can't get the exact calibre of striker we want and need then we have to take a punt on the best we can get, last season showed what is achieved by doing nothing just because you can't get exactly what you want.

03 Jun 2016 17:34:46
Laker, I totally agree. I am pretty sure our club is aware of the big names we mention or they would have to have their head half way up their @@@@@
It's competing with the big boys that's the issue and the lack of talent.
We are always chasing the key positions - keeper, Centre half, CDM and Striker ( the spine) and we are never alone on this quest. Unless you have the pedigree of Barcelona or the money of City - you will struggle.
If the Boss is happy with Morata at 50m - I am.

We moan about Wenger not being ruthless - well buying a left back seems ruthless on Gibbs. Not renewing Rosicky contract despite being in Euro squad, dropping Per etc seems ruthless to me.

Happy with a new left back as long as we still get a striker and Centre half.

03 Jun 2016 18:34:40
In short
Rodriguez yes
Morata no he hasn't got anywhere near those figures before so there is not any evidence to suggest he will come to a more physical league and almost treble his previous best.

03 Jun 2016 18:52:45
Sanogo what was Henry's scoring record like before he joined Arsenal mate?
Olly and Theo have repeatedly proved they can't consistently deliver on the pl stage so we have to take a chance somewhere on someone.

03 Jun 2016 19:27:07
Ignoring all the fog surrounding Morata and just looking at it in a literal sense.

International striker that scores
Multiple big game experience
Technically very good
Will press high up the pitch
Aerially pretty good
Availble for what can be considerd a modest fee for a striker now
Young and willing to play at arsenal (seemingly)
Already played for a Spanish giant
Likely high sell on fee in future should that transpire

Higuan is better for now for me, but having had a serious ankle injury, is probably already on the decline if not far off, Morata is the smart choice.

Infront of ozil, I think he could constantly challenge aguero for top individual honours in an arsenal shirt.

03 Jun 2016 19:35:01
Higuain wasn't interested before he was really high on top clubs wanted list gave so I think we can totally discount his choosing Arsenal if he should move this summer.
Let's not do of another Benzema summer of chasing rainbows and end up with nothing again.
