I guess we are competing for desirable payers, trying to not over pay on fees plus if you delay a week it saves the club wages plus national insurance. That and we’ve always been slow….
It is still early as Ed says but the big clubs have done good business already. We’ve got a tough start so we need to get our players in early to get them on Arteta’s plan.

Could be wrong but think we are waiting to announce Zubimendi at beginning of July because it benefits Sociadad! Just as an aside we bought Declan on July 13th a full 19 days away and he did okay! It does show there are lots of imponderables, and also no one has signed Gyokeres Sesko Osimhen or Watkins. If we had dithered and all had been bought then sack the board Berta Josh MA or whoever but the window has only just opened! We can’t use ‘we need to buy early to bed them in ‘ excuse as ( see Declan) and they’re mostly all on holibobs at the moment . COYG.

True - Rice was an experienced EPL player so bedding in is easier. We generally don’t sign players early and i'm sure it’s wages and price to a large extent. Signing players after a big part of preseason training and tour isn’t ideal.
