one thing i think its clear wenger recieved the brunt of unfair critism for is spending. Its pretty clear that the £50 mil stated earlier after sales is probably going to be pretty close. so it seems its the board that don't want to spend the money, or for some reason its not there which seems fishy! they aluded a few years ago that there was plenty of money available and our net spend since then been very low.

Agree1 Disagree0

It's really a bit of both tho. Maybe the funds. Have been so low because of stupid contracts we've been giving out. High wages for players that don't deserve it and we don't even know how big the signing on fees are. Just a guess mind you who knows.

I think it's a fair point Eden but we've been spending a lot on players who have not delivered plus letting a lot of players get us into a corner financially.
What was Sanchez worth with 2 years left on his contract? But what did we actually get for him with half a season left on his contract.
Liverpool got 140 million for Courtinho while no disrespect but we got miki for Alexis.
We've been poorly managed but still bought Pea in January.

The money has to be generated and things like sales and champions league make a huge difference, just look at the difference it has made to liverpools spending. Our buying and selling under wenger, along with no champs league, is pretty poor. Most teams in the top six could get 100 mil+ and 50mil + for more than half their squad if they had to sell, we would struggle to match that. Financing the arsenal team has not been that clever in the last five or six years and it is catching us up. Most of our better players are older and would command less money in sales, we are now entering a vital part of arsenal football clubs future of being in the big league of clubs. Dick has to start the rise back in, with his hands tied.

I think two years out of the CL has hurt us. Look at Liverpool’s spending in the past two years compared to before now there are arguably the second best (if not best on their day) in prem . Then you have goliaths in untitled who generate so much but have spent poorly in my opinion. I’m not really interested in the money side per say, but my main criticism of Wenger was the rigid thought processes and not addressing areas that a blind man could see. I believe the change in manager and direction is worth 200m, you only have to look at spurs and Liverpool’s managers to see that, yes klopp has spent some coin this year but a lot of that is coutinho cash. As a starting 11 our attacking 3rd is up there with the best. I hope Torreira will be as good as I think he will be.

Leicester have bought well and reluctantly sold high.
United have wasted 100s of millions but still spend 100s of millions more
Liverpool have sold high and bought well
Arsenal have bought poorly and sold poorly but unlike United can generate money for fun.
Chelsea have balanced the books pretty well in recent years and have 2 of the last 4 titles with thier name next to them.

It's like anything else in life it's not all about what you've got but whether you make the most of what you have or not.

Exactly g62. Your back, your really back 😀.

I’ve always said it’s the board and wasn’t Wenger he worked miracles with the budget he had and kept us up there.

Liecester 2015 16 made the most of what they had Sanago mate and regardless of who did or didn't turn up that season they still got 80+ points, I'd be well pleased if we matched that point total in the season ahead mate whether it's enough for 1st 4th or whatever place it would be the first time we'd managed it for more than a decade and unquestionably real progress.

Crybaby, if that is the case that, as people say, is the reason we are behind citeh, utd and chelski. what's the reason we are behind liverpool and spuds, when he had a far greater budget than them to work with. The truth is he spent his budget poorly on average players with no sell on value and blindly ignored all the obvious problems with his philosophy. Tell me which player in the last ten years did he buy for any amount of money and we have gone on and sold for over 100 mil. Liverpool and spuds have because they bought well or produced. Most of ours have lost money in the transfer market in real terms. He has strangled this club.

Steve you know as well as everyone that we were the 4th place happy club under Arsene, that was the aim the ambition the requirement.
Once you no longer aim to be the best there is only one way you can go and that's backwards.
We rode our luck far to long and in the end oops here we are now.

I personally think they missed a beat, had they taken a bit longer to pay off the stadium but bought some eye catching transfers to build the profile of the club and aimed for more than top 4 we might of been able to increase our commercial potential like utd have.
