In fact I will now go as far as to say, if it is true, welcome rafa, it is a pleasure to have you as our manager. His record is phenominal, I'd forgot it was that good.

Steve,
You are like a dog with a bone 😃

In fairness, Benitez has a very very good record.

13 Feb 2017 13:39:40
I still think we should be aiming higher that Rafa. Forgetting if he is so great why is he still at a championship club. And unless my memory is playing up I seem to remember him doing strange things tactically. Personally I'd be disappointed. But if it's true I'd welcome him end he'd have my full backing.

{Ed007's Note - I think Rafa could easily have moved on to a higher level than Newcastle after relegation, especially on the continent, but the guy gained a lot of respect from me for staying at Newcastle to try and sort the mess out.}

13 Feb 2017 14:13:14
I did wonder that whilst I was typing that ed007. Ok I retract that part. I just feel I'd like someone else to be given a go. I keep seeing ed002 mention they wanted to wait another season or something like that. Maybe rafe would be a short term than long term.

{Ed007's Note - I wasn't pushing Rafa for the Arsenal job, D16 bud, I personally think it would be too big a job for him to take on but I just thought it was a bit unfair using that he was still at a Championship club as a negative against him.}

13 Feb 2017 14:39:52
And you was right too there's so much greed in football I should be applauding him for staying at Newcastle rather than using it as a negative. I'm not sure who is right for the job but I'd quite like to see a younger manager with fresh ideas and visions.

13 Feb 2017 14:55:36
Dags its all paper talk, it won't be happening. lol.

13 Feb 2017 14:43:21
Ed 07 too big a job, since wenger won the title rafa has won two titles, two eufa cups, a champs league, a world club title and european coach of the year and you think arsenal would be too big for him. he's managed valencia, napoli, liverpool, chelsea, inter milan and real madrid and he is a pot hunter. He will do for me.

{Ed007's Note -Good for you. I'm not an Arsenal supporter so I suppose I hope he does go, two years down the line and you'll be back to square one looking for a new manager and still not winning the big trophies. Apart from Liverpool, Rafa doesn't like hanging about, he's on his 11th club in 22 years as a coach already.}

13 Feb 2017 14:44:32
Dags I didn't realise he was so good.

13 Feb 2017 17:38:42
Rafa wouldn't be a step up over weneger steve. there are better managers. Allegri, tuchel, jardim, sampaoli who is rumuored to be going to barcelona.

Of all the coaches linked to arseal in my opinion it is jardim who stands out. His monaco team seem to be scoring lots of goals and they outplayed PSG while playing away. I watched the game and it was a tactical masterclass. PSG were completely ouplayed and remember jardim was losing his best players almost every season.

13 Feb 2017 17:47:32
So punani, jardim would be a step up, what has he won. Surely someone who has won multiple leagues, cups and the champs league is a step up. Our guy and jardim can't boast that.

13 Feb 2017 18:10:45
Did I jog your memory steve? Same here ed he gained a lot of respect from me too. Especially working for that clown at Newcastle.

13 Feb 2017 18:16:08
Also if you look at European honours Wenger isn't even on the list and Glenn roader and Harry redknapp are lol.

13 Feb 2017 20:13:03
Ha ha sano, seriously, I don't think we will be in for benitez at all but I've looked up the guy and I have to give him kudos for his achievements. I thought it was someone starting all us arsenal fans off, like they do but he's a good name to throw in there.

13 Feb 2017 23:48:51
steve, benitez is a great coach tactically but is very poor when it comes to man management hence why he always faces a mutiny by his palyers whereby they refuse to play for him. Look what Zidane did with the same squad. Went 40 games unbeaten after benitez got sacked. Does that mean Zidane is a better coach? Possibly not but it means that benitez is not as great as you make him out to be.

On the other hand jardim's coaching career is relatively short compared to Benitez but so far he has done wonders. He did great with sporting lisbon and braga in the portuguese league while winning the title with olympiakos too. His monaco team is one of the most entertaining teams. They score goals for fun.

Honestly i wouldn't mind allegri too. He is nothing special but is surely un upgrade on wenger. i am not sure he is tactically great though. towards the end of his reign as the Ac milan coach, he was a total disaster.

Then there is tuchel who is apparently so good that guardiola wanted him to be his replacement at bayern. there are question marks over his team this season but it is more likely to do with the fact that he lost a lot of players and has sufferred an extensive injury list. He is still a good coach. I would take any over wenger excpet benitez for reasons i mentioned in my first pargraph.

14 Feb 2017 00:21:54
Well he had enough man management skills to turn a rebellious chelsea round to win a europa league, he had enough management skills to turn a 3-0 deficit around in the champions league and enough management skills to win la liga twice in three years. I don't buy it, sorry.

13 Feb 2017 23:52:36
Well he's a journey man and has always delivered to some degree. Not my first choice but if candidate A is not available for 2 years then I'd have him in. He would spend if he was allowed.
