If all else fails on the striker front and rather than going again with just Olly Theo and Danny if and when available, would you consider as a short term solution a player who is 33 years old but is natural goalscorer and offers a real alternative to Olly but who could equally play with and off him if and when needed.
He's a London lad who's been scoring premier league goals on a regular basis for over a decade and continues to do so now in a team that isn't exactly known for its ability to generate many goal scoring chances per game, he's won many a game from both starting line up and coming off the bench with his goals, he has almost a goal every other game strike rate for his country despite mostly playing only a bit part from the bench.
So would you consider such a man in the event we can't attract a top striker this summer for whatever reason?

I always thought Defoe would join us at some stage but I am not sure now as still plenty options. Would rather look around for something better.

This is arsenal and we have money and we should have ambition to get the tools to get the job done or else we are not the club we think we are.

19 Jun 2016 19:28:32
Totally agree SY mate but if it came to it rather than go with what we had last season would you sign Defoe?
As a little and large along Oly and a real poaching alternative to him I think it could prove an excellent short term improvement on what we have.
Higuain Vardy Lewandowski are all preferable of course but if they all refuse to join us Jermaine could be the difference between drawing at Southampton and winning or drawing at utd city Chelsea than losing which over a season could mean the difference between 1st and 4th place chasing next May.

19 Jun 2016 19:37:32
If he scored the goals that won the league Steve would you care?
Samuel Etto Chelsea Michael Owen Utd Hendrick Larson utd again all short term stop gaps with premier league winning medals to their name mate.
Rather than walk to work because you can't have the Lamborghini you want to be seen in and lose your job for being late, be on time and keep your job by borrowing Ravers Cora for a bit mate because it might lead you to the promotion that leads to the car of your dreams:-)

Agree to a point gunner but defoe eto larson and owen, spot the odd one out. Bit of a difference in talent. Three of them had won leagues and cups at the highest level the other hasn't.

I've always thought Defoe would fit is perfectly, he is Ian Wright. He scores outa nothing constantly. Brilliant player!

We need BIG and we need to go BIG now.

19 Jun 2016 20:12:52
I will see your previous league winning Steve and Raise you a Danny Simpson Robert Huth and a Danny Drinkwater.

19 Jun 2016 20:16:33
Even as a hypothetical discussion, I wouldn't entertain the idea! He was excellent this season, but it sends the wrong message to current team and targets. Could defoe do a great job? For a season or two, maybe. If he didn't though, aw would be crucified. Not worth the gamble. Its weird how you get players like Defoe and Bent that did incredibly well with poor service, and get totally overlooked by big and national teams.

62 - if we have no one signed and 24 hours to go to window close. YES, sign him up. Whenever I see him score, I can't believe he never replaced Wrighty. But at his tender age - he has to be a back up plan.
Sure someone will want Remy!

I just want a better plan A who scares people when they see the team sheet and also stand opposite them in the tunnel.

I hear you SY and so do I mate its just a possible option if our first choice don't come off and one that has a lot more going for it than sticking with Theo as cover and an alternative option to Giroud.

19 Jun 2016 20:49:13
Gunner they aren't strikers?

19 Jun 2016 22:17:01
Fair comment Steve, try Okazaki and Ulloa then mate :-)

20 Jun 2016 02:25:56
Yes they hardly played. lol.

20 Jun 2016 12:52:28
Although he is an excellent player i am afraid he can't play for us as he has already played for our neighbours, which in my view should automatically rule him out. Its a bit like having a world of women out there to go, meet and fall in love with but you end up with the ugley next door neighbour just because you couldn't be bothered to look further afield. If we can't find a better alternative to a 33 year old ex Spurs player then I am giving up my Arsenal membership and moving over to watch the egg chuckers next season. :)

Epping i'm with you on that mate.
