Hi Guys. Long time reader, first time poster here.
Does anyone else think that David Luiz could do a job for us as CDM alongside Xhaka (with Aouar in 10) . He reads the game well, would shield the CBs well, good tackler and distribution is great. Would save us a whack if compared to a Partey investment. Saliba and Gabriel as Cbs. Interested to know your thoughts.

Hi D and welcome on board mate.
Yes 100% I think he's absolutely perfect for all the reasons you mentioned in your post to play DM/ sweeper position which would negate the need to play 3 CBs and allowing us an extra attacking option.
Obviously not a popular choice with everyone but it's the role I really hoped he'd be used in when we signed him.

Welcome mate. I certainly don't think it's a bad idea but I'm also not convinced he's the answer to our defensive midfielder prayers either! Although I'm not a fan of the back 3/ 5, playing Luiz in the middle of the back trio does allow him to come in to the midfield which he has done on numerous occasions and it's worked. He's not then relied on in a CB in a pairing which has helped his performances tenfold and he's also been able to step forward and play some nice passes to the attacking players. I like him in a back 3 or 5 but other than that I'd rather sign a solid DM and play with a back 4.

I think the issue is he tends to wander when he’s played there before, Luiz does have all the qualities but I think he leaves a hole in the middle and is not quick enough any more to get back unfortunately.
