Pretty sure the Xhaka deal is done as I saw a photo of him in Arsenal kit at what looked like our training ground - you know the usual induction pictures, usually accompanied with a few kickups or something.

His GF apparently took the pics and they got out that way.

I have a confession gooners and dolls:

A few months ago I was feeling optimistic and lucky as I'd just encountered one of my annual wins on a scratchcard which I buy daily. Anyway, I decided to put down an outside bet on us winning the league and I think it may have gone horribly wrong and caused a jinx which fluffed up the remainder of our season in a tragic fashion. I really should know this by now when it comes to gambling and me, it started with Sanchez getting injured the next day.

Sorry guys.

{Ed025's Note - and well you should be TPG!..you are obviously a jonah and spend your spare time shooting albaross,s at will.. :)

1.) 28 Apr 2016 08:02:51
Haha yeah maybe that does have something to do with it Ed. Come to think of it, a black cat did cross my path that day.

I'm off to touch some collars.

2.) 29 Apr 2016 22:05:07
Ed,
Can we ban him please? 😊.

{Ed025's Note - if we ban everyone who is unlucky dags there will be no one left..

3.) 30 Apr 2016 07:12:41
True Ed :-)

4.) 03 May 2016 13:14:40
Haha we can get past this Dags.

"I prefer not to say too much, but there is a club with which I've always been fond of: Arsenal. Because of Thierry Henry, a player with whom I have always enjoyed watching.

Maybe this is why I look with so much affection to the Premier League."

I've just read a claim from some football agent that Wenger is the only manager to turn down Real Madrid and that he was approached by Real between 2000-2003.

Can anyone confirm

A: did Wenger get approached for the Real Madrid job?

B: If so, is he th eonly manager to refuse the job?

I'm probably being very gullible right now but I'm tired, it's Friday and I can't actually think of any manager who has publicly turned down the RM job.

ThePerfectGoal

1.) 21 Aug 2015 16:58:48
I'm sure there's been a few over the years as not all managers want a short term job that can't possibly last more than a couple of seasons.
Apparently Arsene did refuse them a few times but to be fair both professionally and financially he'd have been mad to have said yes.
He'd have been sacked like all others plus 10 million a year for 2 years is poor money compared to 7 million for however long he chooses

2.) 21 Aug 2015 17:17:49
I thought that was common knowledge that he was approached by real. I'm not sure if he's the only one to turn them down. I think France has approached him before as well. He will finish his career at us know

{Ed002's Note - He is certainly not the only one to turn them down - two managers did this summer for example.}

3.) 21 Aug 2015 22:46:10
Klippity Klopp and JLow?

4.) 21 Aug 2015 21:56:28
It's not a great place to be a manager imo. Mourinho left didn't he ed? The EPL is the league to manage if you have anything about you

{Ed002's Note - It is a very different role than in the EPL. It is very difficult for the head coach at Real Madrid to influence transfers in and out - there is a little latitude, but not much. For some managers this si not an issue - Carlo Ancelotti for example. It is pretty similar at some Italian clubs.}

5.) 22 Aug 2015 00:27:39
Cheers ed, I didn't think it could be true. And yes g62 that's what i thought - not all managers could want the short term accolade of being Galacticos manager as opposed to a more long term project. You know what Browgun, I imagine if Wenger did ever leave Arsenal it would only be to spend his final years leading his National team.

6.) 22 Aug 2015 00:41:44
Yes but imagine playing football manager at a club were they signed who they wanted and you had no control. It's no a fun job to have.

7.) 22 Aug 2015 09:09:52
Imagine being at a club where you've done brilliantly the players want you to stay the fans want you to stay even the club president says there's no reason to replace you but! Its time to go because? No one knows why really but it just is and your replaced by a man with a record that's not anything close to yours?
Welcome to the crazy world of Real

Sanogo linked with a loan move to Ajax. Not a bad move, if true. He will get more games with them than us plus he'll be learning from the best - Dennis Bergkamp

ThePerfectGoal

1.) 13 Jul 2015 12:17:35
Looks like we've missed out on morgan he's expected to comete a move to man u within hours says on ssn

2.) 13 Jul 2015 12:34:04
Erm yeah or we could talk about Schneiderlin again instead

:P

3.) 13 Jul 2015 17:26:02
think sanogo to ajax on loan would be awesome for all involved, zivkovic has just left and whilst milik is staying for another season, the presence of a powerful player like sanogo would probably do ajax a lot of good

4.) 13 Jul 2015 20:04:39
I am on record previously as being a fan of Sanogo. Lad has more rough edges than a hectogon but there's talent lurking in there. Hugely destructive player, think he'll make it eventually, even if it takes 4 more years

To Ed's, fellow posters and anyone who wants to listen.

Regarding players leaving the club, even if Arsenal were determined to sell them on, are there any players that you think we'll be stuck with and just outright struggle to find suitors for to actually sell them - either down to asking price, wages, injury record, or just other teams not interested in them as footballers?

ThePerfectGoal

{Ed002's Note - Oezil.}

1.) 09 May 2019 12:08:21
Ed, why do you always spell Özil as “oezil” with an e?

{Ed002's Note - Because I cannot be bothered to type an umlaut and the "e" means the equivalent in terms of changing the vowel in German.}

2.) 09 May 2019 12:50:21
But the time it takes to write your explanation 😂.

11 Oct 2017 19:07:15
Merson has just signed for a fourth tier side in my Motherland Wales.

I hate to be repetitive as I know the Eds see the same gist in post every day but bit disappointed we've let another player get snapped up because we haven't acted with urgency. Could be a fatal mistake if Ozil ends up heading for the door!

ThePerfectGoal

1.) 12 Oct 2017 14:24:50
I thought you was talking about being more urgent with Merson then lol.

15 Aug 2017 18:54:16
This has probably been said loads of time already, since i'm a part time poster I am oblivious but congratulations Dennis Bergkamp for getting the majority of the public's vote concerning the best goal of the premier league era.

When you think about it, that's a huge honour and achievement. Goal of the season is something nevermind goal of 25 years.

ThePerfectGoal

1.) 15 Aug 2017 19:21:39
Undoubtedly the best player to where an Arsenal shirt! Well undoubted in my mind that is :-)

2.) 15 Aug 2017 20:45:00
Prefer Ray Parlour to Bergkamp.
I just thought Ray brought more to the team.

3.) 15 Aug 2017 21:22:11
They didn't call him the romford pele for nothing. But bergy is the king.

4.) 15 Aug 2017 21:28:05
henry still the best for me. unplayable.

5.) 15 Aug 2017 21:54:38
Oh No! I've got those red tinted glasses but really struggle to keep Henry Bergkamp and Veira out of all time prem league top 5 ( shearer and Roy Keane other two ) . Thoughts? COYG.

6.) 15 Aug 2017 22:04:14
Imagine having both TH14 and DB10 plus RP7 in the same side! Oh wait - Wenger brought that to the UK!

Lucky us.

7.) 15 Aug 2017 22:47:12
Steve, I was being sarcastic lol.

Agree with Derby. Henry will always be the best.

8.) 16 Aug 2017 02:50:45
Dags I know. Ray parlour lol.

9.) 16 Aug 2017 06:30:10
I actually think Bergkamp was a bit overrated - Henry was in a different league. Everyone always says how great DB was but if you actually think about it, what did he do? Scored a handful of awesome goals, the same as dozens of players over the years. Don't get me wrong I love him but just don't get the exaggeration and delusions of grandure. I also think Pires was better.

10.) 16 Aug 2017 07:44:42
Tony Adams, if a players comes near our goal I'm going to smash him and if the rest of you don't do the same I'm going to smash you too.

That's the attitude! 😂

Congrats to Bergy though, fabulous player. Fabulous goal.

11.) 16 Aug 2017 08:41:49
Stoner,
Was that an actual Adams quote?

If not, it should have been 👍.

12.) 16 Aug 2017 11:28:02
Dags don't knock Romford Pele, great player. Like an even better Merson.

04 Jan 2017 09:25:17
In relation to Chelsea possibly getting 8 points clear at the top with a win tonight against Sp*rs, has there ever been any seasons where a team has had a massive lead throughout and thrown it away?

ThePerfectGoal

1.) 04 Jan 2017 10:08:42
Yes us! I think we're only one of two clubs that has been top at xmas and not won the league! And I think we done that twice! I remember us being ten clear in rvp's last season.

16 Dec 2016 13:46:06
Work put on Scrooge film in the office earlier and it got me thinking.

How are you doing these days Steve?

Also, suppose I better talk about Arsenal, I personally think this game could define our season in many ways - do we start crumbling after one bad result in the league or do we bounce back and beat a good Man City team? If it's the latter, I'll be left very optimistic for the season and if it's the former I'll end up changing my profile picture to Jack Dee.

ThePerfectGoal

1.) 16 Dec 2016 14:07:32
I think we should all change to Jack Dee. 😂😂.

2.) 17 Dec 2016 01:10:25
Lets hope i don't see the ghost of xmas past this year.

I don’t think Emery would stay if Wenger came back into the frame and to be fair why would he? I can’t imagine many scenarios where a manager would be happy with that setup - bar Ole at Manu who is a puppet with Fergie playing Gepetto and oling the strings ;)

Based on the WC (particularly the game vs Sweden) I wouldn’t be overly excited about Sommer.

RSharpe agree he's not likely to be the 20+ goal striker we need but name one prolific 20+ goal scorer we could afford and who would come to Arsenal right now with no champs league.

Diaby was unreal. I don't feel comfortable naming someone who didn't play enough games as my all time favourite gooner but he's up there. So are Merson and the Romford Pele.
