If this new regime are going to be ruthless with players I think they need to be ruthless with the manager, if there is ever a time to get allegri now is it. The defence needs sorting out immediately.

Hi Eds, do you have any info on perisic rumours and how reliable they are, thanks.

Ben.sotiris84

{Ed002's Note - Inter are keen to sell Perisic and I understand an enquiry has been made about taking him on loan.}

1.) 26 Jan 2019 15:19:27
Thanks.

2.) 26 Jan 2019 15:46:29
Why are Inter keen to move him on?

{Ed002's Note - Age - time to replace him}

3.) 26 Jan 2019 16:25:14
Ed why are arsenal keep going for ageing players? A bit strange. Before we went for young players.

{Ed002's Note - it makes no sense to me.}

4.) 26 Jan 2019 18:43:04
I can't see us paying all that for a player with no resale value, and neither should we, I'd rather see us sign 4 or 5 players who are on the verge of a breakthrough who can flourish in an Arsenal shirt for 3 or 4 years at least then if we do lose them at a much higher price will be able to reinvest again.

28 Aug 2018 18:07:01
Nelson to hoffenhaim! Surley not. Any info Eds?

Ben.sotiris84

{Ed001's Note - only that he is going there, or should be subject to medical etc. No idea if it is a loan or sale though.}

1.) 28 Aug 2018 19:09:24
If it's a loan it's a very good move, he will learn far more there than playing under 21 football or whatever in this country.

2.) 28 Aug 2018 20:38:51
Thanks, yes I agree, I think while we have welbeck we should utilise him and assess nelson when he returns, needs to sign a new deal though I think.

25 Jul 2018 10:33:35
And the winger merry-go-round begins, Barcelona sign malcom, real madrid will flex their muscle sparking a domino affect which arsenal are, I believe all ready laying the foundations for enquiring about availability of certain players, dembele, martins and coman I am surprised there hasn't been much talk about Zaha though. If we sell welbeck, Jenkins on and with Walcott already gone our British quota will be a lot lower and I think europa rules regarding home grown players are more rigid than pl ones maybe one of the Eds can shed a bit more light on that though. Another question for Eds with brexit round the corner is this going to be the last chance to sign forgein players especially young ones without much hassle regarding work permits?

Ben.sotiris84

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath over the likes of Coman and Gelson Martins. There is no decision at this time about how Brexit will eventually impact sports but at some point WPs will be required for all non British nationals. It is no big deal.

The rules differ slightly and may be adopted or adapted by the EPL at some point. The EPL rules are a max of 25 players over 21 of which a max of 17 can be non-Home Grown). The remaining eight have to be HG (spending 3 years between 16 and 21 with an English or Welsh side, regardless of nationality). If there are not enough HG players, then the squad size reduces, so if there are only six, the squad reduces to 23. In terms of UEFA competitions, the rules vary slightly with the eight "HG". A maximum of four of those eight can be trained by other clubs in the English and Welsh association. The remaining have to be club trained. So If Arsenal were to recruit John Terry, he would fall in to the category of being association trained (by Chelsea) rather than club trained. Again, if there are not sufficient club trained players the squad size is reduced.}

1.) 25 Jul 2018 11:10:24
Thanks Ed, I know you done a podcast but what wingers could arsenal actually get? It seems like there’s no standout players we could potentially get?

{Ed002's Note - I have told you where there is or has been interest. I really can't say who the club can "actually get". Andrija Zivkovic, Goncalo Guedes, Emil Forsberg etc. all remain potentially available whi;st others are not any longer.}

2.) 25 Jul 2018 11:31:05
Thanks Ed, Maybe I should ask on the Barcelona page but is Dembele going to be leaving with the arrival of Malcom?

{Ed002's Note - It is unrelated to Malcom but he is available.}

3.) 25 Jul 2018 11:58:37
Thank u Ed, I’m surprised no one calls u eddy.

4.) 25 Jul 2018 14:01:35
looks like Gelson Martins has signed for Atletico, and Malcom to Barca, with Roma interested in Bailey. so that's 3 we can potentially strike off the list.

5.) 25 Jul 2018 17:16:13
Id like Zahawouod love Bailey at the club thoough.

6.) 25 Jul 2018 22:37:22

Hi Eds any news on zlalem and bielik and their future at arsenal.

Thanks.

Ben.sotiris84

{Ed002's Note - Gediom Zelalem is just beginning to start again after injury so I suspect he will be eased in to the U23 side in the coming months. I don't know if Krystian Bielik is fully fit nor what the plans are, sorry.}

1.) 11 Jul 2018 16:54:07
Thanks.

2.) 12 Jul 2018 08:54:57
It will be interesting to see if Emery can bring through some of our talented youngsters, as in his latter years at the club Wenger didn't appear to have the ability to bring players through.

Alan dzagoev and raboit on frees would leave some money for a decent cb, bring trough the youth nelson, Smith row, willock etc. They seemed to play with some passion that was missing from the senior players.

Where does 40 million budget come from, I thought this year was going to be different with new kit deals coming in. Do any of the Eds have an estimate for our budget, not depending on sales.

Ben.sotiris84

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Hi, is there a chance the reason ozil is not making the substitute bench that he has a large unused substitute fee in his contract? Having read recently about wengers refusal to play ox because of a clause in his contract stating we had to pay Southampton a certain amount per game (or something like that) , it wouldn't surprise me.

Ben.sotiris84

1.) 17 Feb 2019 08:22:41
It's far more simple, Ozil simply doesn't suit the intensity of PL football.

{Ed001's Note - and yet when played regularly he created the most chances in Europe while playing for Arsenal. He is dropped because he and Emery do not see eye-to-eye. It is a personality clash nothing else.}

2.) 17 Feb 2019 09:22:24
Ozil should be playing - simple

Emery can’t handle big players and we are worse for it - can’t do a lot of things but let’s stsy on the one thread.

3.) 17 Feb 2019 09:36:54
As xhaka does suit it too well to be a regular starter and as Iwobi and micki creating more chances, this is the worst management decision is made.

4.) 17 Feb 2019 09:45:43
Leaving big players out has to come with impressive results and performances where the manager is proven to know what he's doing.
It didn't work for Jose with Pogba and it hasn't worked for Emery with Mesut.
If we suddenly looked tighter at the back and in midfield without Ozil then who could argue with Emery?
But the fact is we concede just as many chances without Mesut as we do with but create a lot lot less.
It almost reminds me of Steve Maclaren and David Beckham situation with England between 2006/ 7.
You have to get the really big calls right or you end up looking out of your depth.

5.) 17 Feb 2019 12:17:56
Yes, Ozil creates chances, but in order to win the Premier league players must have an all-round game and at Arsenal we have too few complete players. Iwobi, Ramsey, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, all lack quality when defending. This places immense pressure on the defence, which also contains the likes of Bellerin and Kolasinac that are not great defensively, but offer more offensively.

{Ed001's Note - all-round game? Yaya Toure strolled around offering nothing for 85 minutes a game but City win the league. You need a balanced team, not 11 balanced players.}

6.) 17 Feb 2019 13:03:12
61 - what’s your point. Interested in your opinion and if the issue is Ozil or the other players. :)

7.) 17 Feb 2019 13:58:34
SY4 - My point is that in the modern PL game, players are expected to perform both defensively and offensively, gone are the days when teams carried players who could only perform either defensively or offensively, particularly where the current 'pressing' trend is concerned. In recent seasons Wenger acquired too many players that were mainly attacking players. In his first decade at the club, we had players who contributed defensively and offensively, particularly in midfield. The players I mentioned offer little defensively, particularly Ozil, and hence the defence comes under increased pressure, with little assistance from the players I mentioned.
I think that is a bit of a harsh comment in respect of Yaya Toure, who admittedly did stroll around at the end of his career at City, but at his peak he could play as a DM and offered offensively. He scored a goal on average every 4 matches for Man City. He was closest I have seen to Patrick Vieira, both being what I call vertical midfield players, playing from back to front and not sideways, if that makes sense.

{Ed001's Note - I give up, you are just a waste of time trying to discuss things with. Like Vieira my arse. What are you on?}

8.) 17 Feb 2019 15:05:11
The thing is there are more than one way to make a meal fit fur a King.
Conti won the title playing 3 at the back and converted Victor Mosses into a wing back, so others including Arsene thought ok I will do that with Ox
Then came Pep with his sweeper come keeper who was as good with his feet as his was with his hands, Dick come in and thought right Petr Cech needs to become Petr Hoddle.
Trying to copy what other people are doing brilliantly with a completely different set of players to what you have is a mugs game because it will take you 3 or 4 years to assemble to get the right ingredients together by which time others have already evolved and moved away from where you've Just arrived at.
Surely getting the best out of what you have is the secret to good management and if 4 4 2 or 4 5 1 gets the best out of your team them what's it matter what others are doing.
Ideals are fantastic but not to be pursued at all costs regardless of all sense.

9.) 17 Feb 2019 17:30:37
That's the crux g62, dick has to work with what he's got or get smart buys. Copying pepwas never going to work, pep had the advantage of being able to get the absolute best players available for his system as money was no issue, I want a sweeper keeper, see you later England no1 and long time servant, you don't cut it, get bravo, he doesn't cut it get ederson the next year. I need fast full backs spend over 100 mil on 3 of them including more on a back up then we would spend on a first choice. I need fast wingers, I've got sterling and sane but I will our transfer record so mahrez can keep our bench warm! Emery not got that luxury if he gets rid of ozil will get anywhere near his quality as a replacement? He's got him, he's going to struggle to get rid of ozil, if you can find a way to get the best out of ozil he's magnificent! I was most hoping a new manager would find a way to get the best out of ozil lac and auba, one of the best chance creators and two of the best finishers yet sadly we've got to see them together too few times.

10.) 17 Feb 2019 17:54:04
Absolutely Eden mate, why would you try and serve up a beef Wellington when you don't have prime cuts of beef or any pastry at your disposal but you do have some very nice mince beef and potatoes that have the potential to be an extremely tasty cottage pie.
If Poch had gone to Spurs and acted as if he'd just landed in Madrid or Barcelona then Spurs would still be playing Thursday night football.

11.) 18 Feb 2019 01:21:57
It just bugs me when they keep mentioning what Emery’s lift with, we don’t have the worst individual set of players, in fact they are above average but not been set properly.
Arsene was slated every time he selected Xhaka, I don’t see anyone even mentioning it these days.
You have a player like ozil with his vision play him in front of Torreira and Gouendouzi and behind laca and auba. Use his talent instead of killing his motivation and hunger which I think Emery already did.

{Ed0333's Note - I cant understand for the life of me why Ozil can’t get into the Arsenal team it’s a flipping mystery.

12.) 18 Feb 2019 08:40:04
I think most people expected our new manager to be different Moe and for Xhaka days to be numbered but we seem to have found another Arsene who sees what no one else sees in Xhaka, at the start of the season every other post was complaining about Xhaka being selected but most people now seem resigned to the fact Dick is going to play Xhaka come what may regardless of performance and he isn't going to play Lacasette Pea and Ozil together because he doesn't want to.
Darsene Wengemery isn't for turning any more now than he was before he regenerated from the previous Doctor.

13.) 18 Feb 2019 09:42:55
It’s not like we are better without him, it’s not like we are creating more chances, it’s not like we are leaking less goals, it’s not like who’s on are better than him. it just doesn’t make sense.

13 Jan 2019 15:31:44
Do you think that by not playing ozil is showing unai where he can fit into the team. For example showing the lack of creativity and goal scoring opportunities whilst also showing that we still need good defensive cover in the midfield. No sure what the answer is but then again that's unais job to figure out.

It shouldn't be a case of our individuals getting into a pl eleven. We need to work as a team first as that is the most important thing. That may mean some bigger names not playing week in week out. Look at Leicester, Wales and Iceland in the euros. Its a team attitude that wins titles.

I kind of agree, don't think emery has done anything catastrophically wrong but he hasn't done anything brilliant either. Much like a lot of our players over recent years. It has been clear where our weakness has been for ages. Don't tell me with the experience we have at the back the players can't defend they may be getting old or not world class but some of their performances as a unit have been awful. I think emerys philosophy of being a chameleon like team is probably right but mixed messages to a team who have been playing one way for seasons has done more harm than good. Sort the defence out then expand from that.

Hate how people especially the media are being so negative. One of Unai's strong abilities is apparently his analysis of games and players and with this analysis developing the individual and the team. How can he analyse and develop nothing, we had played no games until Sunday (not counting friendlies which are for fitness) .
You have to give the guy a chance a see how he reacts not just to loses but winning streaks (which can breed complacency) draws (can be even more demotivating than loses, especially if goals are conceded late) .
The next season is going to be turbulent but it is how Unai and the team use this season that he should be judged on.

Ben.sotiris84

{Ed002's Note - I remain somewhat off being 100% convinced and remember he was nowhere near first choice.}
