Edoo2, is it true we are looking to sign Jorginho?

{Ed002's Note - There is interest.}

Please God no, he will not add any value to our squad.

Very happy to see this from the club. The Caicedo fee was outrageous and a big risk albeit the player clearly has potential.
Signing Jorginho adds cover and is a massive upgrade on Lokonga and Elneny. It also leaves money available to go get another target in Tielemans for over 25M less than Caicedo would have cost.
We’re trying to win the league and UEFA cup in the next 4 months and these two players will help us in that regard.
Jorginho can be potentially sold then in the summer, hopefully as a PL winner, back to an Italian club without us taking a hit on the fee we might pay to Chelsea.
Tielemans becomes part of the long term plan and Rice or Caicedo signings are approached in the summer.
Shrews reasoning from the club here.

I have to agree with your post shambo

Let’s look at the big picture which is to have reinforcements that will get us over line to win trophies this year

I for one will be supporting our new signing’s.

I always thought Jorginho got a lot of flak because people expected him to be something he wasn't. He's very good at finding space to receive passes from the defenders, and is pretty good at avoiding opposition pressing. His defending isn't the best, but Sarri played a pressing game and he was expected to win back possession quickly. These are the things that Elneny, as much as I like him, and Lokonga (err, no comment) struggle with. If we want an alternative to Partey, Jorginho is a good choice.

Good comment, Shambo. We should be looking to sell this summer and I think there would be many takers in Italy, he is a world cup winner after all. He isn't a long term solution, but we desperately need cover for Partey and he's a good short term option - and a winner.

Sorry, brain fart. Champions league winner. And Euros winner! For a 1-1.5 year contract I don't see much downside. I was really down on the Willian signing but this one makes sense.

Sky has a comparative stats in interceptions, pass completion, total tackles, ball recoveries etc between Partey and Jorginho. Very surprising how closely matched they are.
I think your 100% right wire. Arteta will find a way to get the best out of him and anyway we have a solid defensive back line there to hopefully sweep up any frailties he might have.
Really optimistic about how we’re moving folks.

Good post Shambo. You've tempered my fury at this signing. slightly.

I think some of the annoyance at this buy is our history of buying Chelsea players at the twilight of their career. It's not an exciting signing but it's a good stop gap.

Jorginho seldom gives procession away and breaks up play well. Whether he should or shouldn't have he did displace Kante in the Chelsea midfielder meaning Kante had to fit into a different role.

{Ed001's Note - when did he displace Kante? Kante is a central midfielder, Jorginho was brought in to play the defensive midfield position.}

Hi Ed001 mate, I thought Kante was used in a more advanced role when Jorginho arrived, maybe I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time as I distinctly remember being wrong about something in 1962? Or was it 63! wrongly.

{Ed001's Note - that was nothing to do with Jorginho displacing him, that was to do with Sarri having weird ideas.}
