John Motson is calling time on his commentating career at the end of the season, wow football without Motty ? I'm 55 and I can't remember Match of the Day without Motty being part of it.
End of an era or what?
Lots of us have seen youngsters like Liam Brady Ian Rush Ryan Giggs gave bust on to the scene have great carers retire and fade into the footballing background but Motty has been part of the football furniture for 46 years now.
At the end of this season it really will be the end of a fantastic football era when Motty finally hangs up the sheepskin.
Noe there is a real footballing legend.

Agree gunner him and Barry Davies are still my favourite's, mottys commentary on the France 84 euro game against Portugal still gives me goosebumps platini to tigana back to platini goal for France.

Saturday night with just two games shown each week Jimmy Hill in the studio presenting and Motty and Barry Davies commentating on a match each, brilliant must see TV Raver mate.
Funny they only filmed 4 teams each week almost entirely made up of British players but somehow seemed to catch all the best that was happening in the game and still produce a goal of the season competition to rival any the modern game can produce by filming 10 games a week with players from all over the world.

Raver I thought your favourite bit might have been when he said, "For those watching in black and white, Spurs are in all yellow"

I must admit to preferring Barry Davies. One interesting fact I noted - despite commentating for the BBC for 50 years, he will never have commentated on a Spurs top flight title triumph.

Both Barry and Motty were brilliant Bobby but I Motty was and always will be the man of the match of the day for me.
