Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on how Gyokeres is acting in all this transfer saga. Do you think he is right to refuse to return to preseason training. imo if Gyokeres was an arsenal player i wouldn't be to happy about his attitude. It does seem to be the way of modern day footballers who don't get their own way, to throw their toys out of the pram. On the plus side he must be so wanting to play for us which is a great thing.

I understood he'd made a gentleman's agreement, so hard to judge the guy if they have lied to him.

Apparently the guy with whom the agreement was made has quit Sporting.

I don’t like players going on strike and Arteta tends to go for good apples although Noni looks to have a bit of an attitude. To be fair Pires and Auba weren’t saints. As long as they behave and winning trophies help; I’m fine and will move on once they wear the cannon. COYG - as soon as both score a goal everything will be forgotten ?.

Gora, if that's the excuse the club used, that's pathetic and I'd support any employee kicking up a fuss about it/ striking. they've been flat out lied to and manipulatd so owe no loyaltyin return. If someone in a position of relevant authority made an agreement, it should hold regardless of whether they leave or not - they were talking on behalf of the club and the player has no reason to think otherwise and its a deliberate deception to try and say otherwise - unless the club representative clearly said otherwise.

Depending on ehat was actually said, it could've actually been a legal contract and if there was some proof, Gyokeres might be able to take legal action about it (unless the Eds know that footballers contracts explicitly state they can't) . All that said, I think it's naive of players to accept a verbal contract though - poor advice from their agents, presuming they were told, and maybe this kind of thing is the reason why players are advised to play hardball with clubs, be less loyal and run down contracts etc. ?
