Just a few thoughts about the season gone by and the upcoming transfer window. Disappointed like everyone else how our season ended but realistically we have improved far beyond anyone's expectations - a good season and a foundation to build on.
City will be favorites again - a juggernaut with a brilliant manager and a vast financial advantage, however I think a few more teams may push them next season and if we can stay in the hunt we could just make it - I think the top six will all be capable of beating each other.
We obviously have to strengthen and shed a few players and unfortunately be quite ruthless if we are to be successful.
I think we need at least 4 players - a utility centerback/fullback, 2 replacement midfielders (Xhaka & Partey) and a centre forward.

Like many I'm questioning Partey's attitude and discipline - I think he's arrogant and overconfident - Xhaka deserves our thanks and should be allowed return to Germany.
Jesus is not a prolific centre forward but can play wide left or as a centre forward, so for that reason I think we must find a new striker. Nketia isn't the answer. Balogun could be.

So I'm hoping for Ndicka or similar
Rice and Calcieda or maybe a trade with Juve for Partey/Locatelli
Vlahovic trade with Juve for Partey or Elye Wahi from Montpellier trade for Pepe ..

I think we could be successful offering players plus cash ..

I would sell: Holding, Xhaka, Partey, Nketia, Pepe - ESR and Balogun should be given a chance at least until January 2024.

Between Premiership, Champions Lge, FA & League Cup there should be enough games to rotate and promote the most inform players - maybe not like City who have 2 players for every position but at least have a core of 18 players

Watched our slow decline since the 2006 Champs Lge final . I'm thinking we should re-evaluate and go down the Ajax route giving our younger players a chance.
Maybe Bielik, Nelson, Nketia should get a chance . we stupidly lost Gnarbry and Bennacer .
I think Auba, Lac and Zaha would be awesome but our defence and midfield defence is always letting us down . we have to have faith in Holding, Mavropanos and Holding alongside Sokratis with maybe the addition of Tierney and a solid Koscielny replacement . We're not that far away from a good team but we're not going to challenge City or Liverpool for a while .

I fully agree that we have declined post 2006, after Dein and Fiszman left. The Gazidis/ Wenger/ Kroenke era has left us in a dreadful mess.
We have some great youngsters, but few teenagers play regularly for top 6 sides, as the physicality and experience necessary such level is enormous.

Martinez
Maitland-Niles Mavrapanos Holding Osei-Tutu
Torreira Guendouzi
Nelson Willock Smith-Rowe
Nketiah.

Maitland-Niles is a DM. He should be played in his preferred position.

Maitland Niles is a DM! Is he? I've never seem him in that position.

Not sure i'd describe him as a DM but yeah certainly is a central midfielder. Also explains why a lot of times he looks uncomfortable at right wing back.

Haven't posted for a while but I'm a regular reader ... a few questions for any of the eds

Will we sell Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta to make way for a defensive midfielder? We definitely need a bit of steel to help/provide cover for Coquelin especially if he gets called up for international duty ... I'm hoping for Carvalho, but I can only see us signing one or two more players if we ship some out. I think we are going to stick with our forwards and with a fit Debuchcy and Chambers and Gabriel I believe we have enough cover at the back ... Cech is a great signing ... so for me it's a defensive midfielder and maybe a suprise signing ... swap money deal ... hopefully Gnarbri and Zenalem will figure this season ... not sure if Giroud is still Arsene's favoured choice ... maybe a swap money deal for Benzema ... any thoughts or information on this eds ... thanks

So how much are you expecting Real Madrid to pay on top of Benzema to secure Giroud's services?

It's not a rumour but more of a gut feeling. I have been reading about all the Jovetic/Higuan rumours and various other players we are supposedly chasing. well we all know how Arsenal do business and we know that us the fans are always the last to know. so here's my hunch. Arsene will sign a proven goalscorer, another playmaker, a defensive midfielder and a centre back. Who can he buy that would operate with Giroud? I'm thinking it will be Lewandowski - creative midfielder Cesc back on loan/buy deal - Gonalons/Wanyama defensive midfield and Williams as the centre back - if he can pick up an experienced older keeper, that could also happen. I know Lewandowski seems a long shot but I think there's more chance of him joining us than any other English club - can't see Dortmund wanting to sell him to Bayern - Cesc is just a maybe but I think he might not be as happy at Barca as he expected - and he still loves Arsenal. I honestly think we are turning a corner this summer. we will shed some big earners and invest wisely. we have a good squad. depends on how much money City and Chelski spend. pity we missed out on Mata and Hazard but the timing and the money was wrong.
