Hi Eds, not sure if i should post this on the European pages but can you give us an update on Lacazette? I have seen some newspapers run that he is close to signing with Atletico, but on the European pages ed002 mentioned that we might be looking at him as our first choice?

Thehamptonboy

{Ed002's Note - Interest in Lyon's Alexander Lacazette from Newcastle and Inter has long gone. Additionally, whilst Guy Hillion has continued to extol his virtues but there is no support whatesoever from the folks in London for a bid at this time - so prior interest of Chelsea has gone. Barcelona, Atletico, Juventus and Spurs had him watched late last season - but Barcelona had another solution in mind for what they want and will not be following up. Juventus took it no further and moved to hold talks about another player and Spurs purchased Janssen but may still want to add a striker in the summer - but Lacazette may become an option again so I would not totally discount Spurs nor Juve.

West Ham enquired after Lacazette's availability previously and submitted two bids that were rejected - but wages and the lack of desire from the player to move to a club like WHU means that option has probably gone - plus Lacazette will want Champions League football.

Atletico however know there is apossibility of their summer transfer ban being overturned and Griezmann leaving - Lacazette is one of the two players they have in mind.

Dortmund are continuing to hedge their bets by looking for a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replacement and have watched Lacazette on a couple of occasions.

Arsenal decided that the asking price was too high in the summer and opted, for reasons beyond me, for Lucas Perez. I suspect that they might return in the coming summer when they will be in the market for a striker and Lacazette might well be a good option for them - much will however depend on who the manager is.

He is not first or second choice for PSG but they could potentially turn to him if they fail to bring anyone else in - I think a less likely option.

I am not aware of Liverpool showing any interest in the player recently, but (a) if they look to move Sturridge on (which I think they will), (b) if Liverpool qualify for the Champions League, and (c) if Liverpool have the stomach to pay what will likely be around €60M or so for the player, then Lacazette might well be an option.

Lacazette is a player that Mourinho has looked at from his time at Chelsea, but any interest will depend on what happens with Ibrahimovich. Right now Manchester United have shown no interest.

Lyon are very difficult to negotiate with and they may well see an Gallic shrug in response to any initial bids. Lacazette wants English money and Champions League or Juventus. Lyon will look for at least €10M more for a sale to an English side as they know what they can expect from elsewhere. Two French players who have played in England have been providing advice to Lacazette that it is not essential to move to England immediately, but I suspect he has other ideas now and would welcome a move.}

Hi eds, so with arsene having one year left on his deal i was wondering if the arsenal board had thought about frank de boer taking over? He has a good spell at ajax and surely deserves a chance? Would you think that he would be interested in leaving ajax?

Thehamptonboy

{Ed001's Note - he is certainly looking to leave Ajax and favours a move to the English Prem, but I have no idea if Arsenal would be interested in him, sorry.}

Cheers ed. I mostly wanted to know about the cb position. Do you by any chance know of the interest in xhaka and Umar sadiq.

{Ed001's Note - I believe Roma have a buy option on Sadiq mate. As for Xhaka, there is a lot of interest in him right now. I personally think he is likely to make a move to Bayern to replace Xabi Alonso in the summer, from what I have been told.}

Hi eds, I was wondering if arsenal have looked at any centre backs recently as both kos and per are entering their twilight years.

Thehamptonboy

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal have had Rugani from Juventus looked at on more than one occasion and sent someone to specifically look at him recently in a Eurpoean game. His agent is pushing for a move or for a commitment from Juve and I understand he has spoken with Napoli. However, watching a player in a key position in the reserves, as they have done, makes a move any time soon unlikely to me.}

1.) 20 Oct 2015 06:35:53
Kos has only just turned 30 and Mertesacker 31. I can see at least 2 or 3 more seasons at the top level from the pair. We have a tailor made replacement for Koscielny in Gabriel, who is only 24 and Chambers, at 20 has bags of potential.
I am certain we are looking at future replacements, but ther appears to be no immediate urgency.

2.) 21 Oct 2015 17:03:55
ED002, the reserve team player you are talking about is Julio Pleguezuelo?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No Rugani.}

Question for Ed 02 I saw your post on the utd page saying two bids have gone in for progba. any chance once is from us and if not do you know which clubs they are?

Thehamptonboy

{Ed002's Note - It is not Arsenal.}

1.) 28 Jun 2014 21:15:32
How many times does it have to be said that we are not signing Pogba. He is mentioned at least once a day on this siteddespite the fact that we have zero chance of signing him and have never ever shown any interest in him. It really is getting beyond silly.

{Ed025's Note - your spot on ubi

2.) 28 Jun 2014 22:50:27
Thanks for the welcome gunner - looking out for maidstone gooner, fellow stones boy here. If it's not the arsenal it's the Gallagher stadium on a Saturday!

3.) Just wondering, why wouldn't we ever sign Pogba? Too expensive or what?

{Ed027's Note - too expensive and seems a problem

Hi Ed's

I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this but i was just wondering what your opinion of FFP was? To be honest, I don't mind seeing high transfer fees like neymar/ pogbas/ bales. As i believe the money does trickle down to smaller clubs or allows a club to settle their debit/ re-invest in their facilities. But the wages and more specifically agents fee's i find difficult to agree with, as it is taking money out of football. Do you think FFP is doing to much or to little? Is there anything you would like to see or amend? Do you know of any plans in the future that might effect FFP?

Thehamptonboy

{Ed002's Note - The original intent of FFP was to stop clubs getting themselves in to financial difficulties by limiting their spending to what was affordable for the club (most notably in terms of transfer fees and wages). The FFP regulations are are structured to make certain expenditure (and in one case income) exempt from the calculations (so certain things can be deducted as allowable costs - infrastructure changes, spending on youth sides, wages of players signed prior to 2010 etc.). As such from 2011/2012 all clubs need to provide a second set of accounts specifically for the purpose of Financial Fair Play. These are based on the ordinary accounts but adapted for the provisions for FFP - so certain things can be deducted as allowable costs (infrastructure changes, spending on youth sides, wages of players signed prior to 2010 etc. as I say). These accounts also include the income streams (TV and prize money, match day revenue, commercial revenue).

The FFP accounts are then assessed for compliance with the provisions of the FFP rules. There are also limits on increases in the wage bill as well (year on year increase) and a limit of wages as a percentage of turnover.

Where clubs have been in breach of the regulations various punishments have been handed out incudling (a) clubs being banned from UEFA competion (e.g. Dinamo Moscow, Galatasaray, Malaga, Gyori ETO, Parma, FK Ekranas, CFR 1907 Cluj, FC Astra Giurgiu, Bursaspor), (b) Clubs being santioned and find (e.g. Manchester City, PSG, Zenit, Galatasaray, Monaco), (c) clubs being warned and subject to on going monitoring (e.g. Zenit, Rubin Kazan, Anzhi Makhachkala, Levski Sofia), (d) clubs subject to periodic on-going monitoring after previous warnings (e.g. Manchester United, Besiktas, Lyon, Liverpool, Sparta Pragu, Wolfsburg). Additionally some clubs volunteered to pay a fine to curtail on-going investigations (e.g. Sporting Lisbon, Rostov, Besiktas, Krasnodar, CSKA Sofia, Kardemir Karabukspor and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Largely the FFP has worked reasonably well for most clubs but in terms of holding back transfer fees for larger sides I am afraid it doesn't really work if they have a lot of money.}

Hi edoo2, as you have mentioned multiple times that the problem at the club is the structure in place, what do you think us fans could do to help change the structure?

Thehamptonboy

{Ed002's Note - Nothing - it would be a matter for the owner and board to deal with. Then of course there is the money issue I explained in the summer.}

Would have to be lakaku for me. Kane is a great player but Wenger has a way of improving strikers and i think Lakaku could be a better/ more clinical version of giroud and i love the way giroud links up and brings our midfield in to play.

Both would cost a small fortune tho!
