Is it me or does anyone else think it’s arrogant for England to be saying Maguire will be fit for later in the tournament? Don’t be surprised if we don’t win either of the first two fixtures.

Isn't that how it is with England for all major tournaments?
We always start as favourites until we go to penalties 😃
This time it is no different.
However, I don't like the special treatment a player gets, Maguire is a good player but not a one who couldn't be replaced. So hanging on to him in the hope he can play later would be demoralising for the players who missed out and also for the players who would play knowing they will not be in the team when he is fit. It's not a good team dynamics. If a player is not fit for the start of the tournament, he shouldn't be in the squad, wish him speedy recovery and get the next man in the line.

I totally agree, what’s the point in hoping someone can be fit for a round we might not even qualify for? It’s a bit of an insult to others in contention for that position.

I can't recall a time when England were favourites for a Euro or World Cup. Having said that, this is the strongest squad I can recall for a while. Equally, it's the first time that we have not been dependent on one stand out player (be it Beckham, Rooney, etc) to deliver the goods.

Maguire may not play, but it would not be a substantial loss.

I agree. I was hoping Maguire would be fit to partner Stones, especially because Mings hasn't exactly been convincing in the 2 friendlies. With White being called up though, he should partner Stones now in my opinion.

I feel bad for JWP though because he deserved the call up 100%.

Not a fan of Maguire, I think it was Ken on the Man U site, described him as a fit Phil Jones. He should not be in the squad!
Does Godfrey play both full back and center back?

We did it back in 82 with Keegan and Brooking and the worst one of all was Rooney in 2012 who got himself suspended but was still taken for the latter stages of the tournament, if we got that far.

But the time their available they've lost match fitness anyway, crazy.

Maguire is very over rated IMO.
