The only reason I continue to back Arteta at the minute is because the players aren't delivering when it matters. Yes we are frustrating to watch but some of the responsibility has to lie with the players themselves. The manager can't be held accountable because one player doesn't clear the ball in a critical moment. We were doing it all game but not when it really mattered. The manager can't be held accountable because Lacazette and Saka miss their 1 on 1 chances which would of buried the game.
If the players took their chances last night then Arteta wouldn't be in the firing line this morning. We did create, we just bottled it.

I appreciate that at the end of the day the manager is responsible for the results, but I feel that there have been too many times where the result has been 'out of his hands' so to speak to because of silly errors, poor individual performances.

Thoughts? Am I being to naive?

Im with you Glenn, i think the players are failing to deliver, i suppose having a leader on the pitch helps. And for me we have a few, Tierney, Mari, Luiz. Why on earth Bellerin a player that will depart in the summer is captain is beyond me.

I still believe there will be a few departing this summer, that continue to lack the ability needed to play 90 minutes at a decent level. You look at the goals we have conceded this side of Christmas and you would have to say that none of them are unstoppable and 90% of them are down to our own doing.

That last comment is exactly what I was getting at mate. How many of them have been class individual or team goals? Very few in my opinion.

I'm hoping for another positive transfer window in the summer and we'll really start to see what players he thinks he needs/ wants.
Personally I think he already knows what players aren't up to the task but purely for squad rotation and injuries he continues to give them a chance. He looks on with as much disgust as me when players do stupid things that we all know full well doesn't come from him.

I do question his team selection a lot though but then again, we always questioned Wenger's towards the end and Emery's every week!

But are the players failing to deliver because of Arteta’s lack of experience a bit like Frank at Chelsea?

Team selection and approach is something Arteta lacks. He has a set way and doesn't want to change, for whatever reason, that is not a sign of a strong manager.
One game we play attacking football and the next three we go back to passing sideways and backwards. If you look carefully, 9 out of 10 times the man in front of the player who has the ball is pointing to pass back instead of demanding the ball.

To be honest Ox i'm not sure why they aren’t they delivering, we can say its Arteta, yet he somehow got them to beat Liverpool, Chelsea and City last season, he has shown he knows what it takes. Maybe we have a group that just can’t go 90 minutes without switching off or making a mistake. I think its ability, compare our squad with the teams above us and can you honestly say we have more than maybe 3/ 4 that would get into any of their 11s? there's lots of work to do with that squad, and the question is can the club afford to bring in a world class manager and supply them with funds to get who they want?
The thing i fear for the summer is we get rid of too many and don't have enough cover.

Bellerin
Chambers
Suares
Holding
Luiz
If they all leave we need two CBs two RBs and a LB
Elneny
Ceballos
Gouendouzi
Torreira
Ödegaard
Again 2 centre mids and 1 attacking mid.

Loosing all these and replacing will be difficult enough under normal circumstances but with CV and no funds coming in from tickets, its not looking like it will be great.

{Ed077's Note - A few weeks ago, people here were saying not many players from Man Utd would get into a combined 11. Now they arent good enough to be competing for European places? Im confused...}

We do have a good enough starting 11 but Arteta frustratingly continues to change it every game.

I personally think there's something going on behind the scenes with PEA which ia causing some issues in the squad.

I’d love to see Arteta succeed - he’s our manager and explayer

I’d rather have kept Freddie to be honest - he talked slot of sense and played players who were performing and saw that Laca and PEA couldn’t play together in a front 3.

For me - Arteta would be sacked if at any other big club and I feel we are giving him such a low performance bar because he’s an explayer and Pep said nice things about him. Honestly think people hope and want him to succeed rather than believe he has the experience and horsepower to succeed. We’ve given an inexperienced manager too big a job then we make his job even bigger with more responsibility. Crazy. That plus a screwed up set up.

Issues with Arteta

Tinkers - Can’t get us to play a balanced defence and attack game - doesn’t know best 11 - doesn’t play to players strength - can’t manage big names - tactics - can’t adapt in game - continues to play from the back - lacks tactics - over analysis opposition to detriment of our game - poor attack play - drops / picks players despite how they play - wants us to press but we don’t - makes us play slow methodical football

On a positive - loves our club, wants to play the game the right way ( doesn’t deliver though) , attack minded ( doesn’t deliver ) and seems to talk a good game ( doesn’t deliver) . I do look forward more to watching his Arsenal than Emery Arsenal but I’d take the Worst Wenger over Arteta.

We need a rebuild and sell 3 or 4 defenders to replace with 1, sell 4 or 5 midfielders and buy boussima and sell strikers to clear room for the young blood.

Sorry - I like Arteta but he’s out of his depth and we have to be more clinical on / off pitch and behind the scenes

COYG.

Ed baring a few from United it would be 50/ 50 for places. I think and not looking for excuses that United have been lucky with more than a few decisions which have resulted in getting points this season.

Baring Fernandes, wan bissaka and Rashford, I wouldn’t want anyone else from United.

{Ed077's Note - then surely Arteta is dragging the squad down. After all Man Utd finished 3rd last season too whilst Arsenal were competing for top half finish just like this season, with all due respect.

Maybe if you guys tried to play in and around the opposition ox every so often instead of passing square balls inside your own box then you might get lucky sometimes instead of conceding silly, avoidable goals.

P.s I actually think Man Utd should be doing better but for OGS.
