Any of the Ed’s know if Monaco have made an approach for mustafi.

{Ed002's Note - I am aware of a discussion with Roma and am aware he will only leave if any deal suits him.}

Sounds fair to me, we gave him the contract and he'd be a fool to leave where he's happy for somewhere he doesn't want to be just to please us.

Imagine if your boss said he wanted you to leave his company where you were happy and relocate your family to a different company in a different country, but you knew he couldn't force you to go because of employment laws.
Would any of us go?

{Ed047's Note - so stay where your boss doesn’t like you, he puts you in a lesser role, ie the bench or worse, the company customers don’t like you and boo when they see you all with the added bonus of press and pundits ridiculing your work.

Or go where the weathers nicer, the pays as good, the restaurants better, the private schools as good and your closer to home.

Umm let me think.

But Mustafi is happy at Arsenal Ed047, maybe you or me wouldn't be happy in his situation but he is happy at Arsenal.
I've always felt if your unhappy in your job then change because you have nothing to lose but if you are happy where you are then wow it's a huge gamble moving because the absolute best that can happen if your really lucky is you break even and get happy at the next Job too.
It's an absolute no brainer for Mustafi and his family to stay put if they like life where they are, we should never have bought him or Xhaka but that's our mistakes not thiers.

{Ed047's Note - my point was if no one wants you where you are wouldn’t you just rather go and be somewhere equally as nice where you get a new start.

Fully appreciate he doesn’t have to but think he’s kidding himself to say he’s happy to stay here under these circs.

It would be best for both the player and the club if he moved on. His style simply doesn’t suit the PL. It is interesting that we haven’t signed a single defender in this window.
Tierney may arrive and I would love to see Mustafi sold and a quality replacement brought in. With only a week to go, assuming we sign Pepe and Tierney I will be pleased with the window, but the icing on the cake would be a CB out and one in.

Before your time Ed047 but Martin Buccan the ex Manchester United CB who was a fantastic player said he absolutely hated being a footballer but it paid better than anything else he was capable of doing so he had little choice.
We all think of football as being about playing each week and I think at the beginning it's like that for all players but some lose their love of playing and it becomes a job and nothing more, Mertesacker said on his least season he hoped he'd never have to play again despite accepting a new 1 year deal.
For some players it's a case of doing their training play if selected and other than that get on with their lives doing what they really enjoy doing away from football.

{Ed047's Note - when I think about it I guess it’s true in all walks mate, I think I’m probably associating it with the amount of money they earn making it easier to live anywhere.

Which is no doubt not really the case for the average Joe.

Clearly most would like to see him moved on but the reality is if he doesn’t want to then like you say, the club gave him contract and that’s it.

If I was mustafi, I would move. majority of the fans don't like him. Every mistake is amplified, and he is being mocked. good on him for sticking to his beliefs. but sometimes the individual is his worst enemy. Move on, reinvent yourself without pressure. Staying behind and trying to do something he has been unable to for the past few seasons. is at best retarded.

If work is the most important thing in Mustafi life then he's a fool to stay but if his own, his wife and kids happiness is much more important than his job and if all the Mustafi family love living in London he'd be a mug to leave.
How many people actually love their jobs? For most people work is a means to an end no more no less, they do their job to the best of their abilities then go home forget all about work and get on with their real life.
