Simeone was always my first choice but for various reasons i don't think that was ever going to happen. Tonights result for me also knocks out a few more top managers (no champs league, fewer funds and less pulling power) out of the reckoning. I am a little worried about gazidis's words "we have to be brave in our appointment" especially now. We won't give a manager a big budget (did wenger waste our funds when he had them) and we are not giving a manager a big salary, supposedly less than wenger. I just wonder what and who we will attract on the terms we are offering. Interesting times ahead.

Yes, Steve I too am a Simeone fan and the semi-finals showed how well drilled his team is and defensively superb. We have been missing in both these aspects for some time. Our defending is attrocious.
The options are:
1. A top manager such as Simeone, Ancelloti or Allegri.
2. An up and coming young manager such as Marco Silva, Dyche or Howe.
3. A coach or former Arsenal man such as Vieira, Henry or Buvac.

I believe we will go along the 3rd route, with a more European style of the manager being more of a coach, backed by a backroom staff that deals with contracts, player acquisitions, etc. Moving away from Wenger's post-Dein total domination of every aspect of the club.

Interesting times ahead for sure.

Why would we give the new manager/ head coach any transfer budget at all given the appointment of SM and RS?

As for the candidates who see the lack of champions league football next season as a problem, i think it's better to overlook those coaches anyway. I'd rather like a coach who plans for long term instead of one season success.

As for the salary, i don't know of any details but would imagine it's just natural the new guy wouldn't earn quite as much as Wenger since he wouldn't have as many responsibilities as Wenger had (like transfers for example) . I'm sure we can still offer competitive wages.

I would also like to point out one reason why i think we will be an attractive option for any coach, and that is the way the club has handled Wenger. We are known as a club with patience and the board won't make any rash decisions based on short term results. I personally would like to see the new coach get at least two seasons time to improve our performances (unless the first season is a total disaster) .

I agree Iceman I don't think the next manager/ coach should earn more than Arsene immediately.
I don't really want someone who joins us for the money but more for the opportunity.
Arsenal are a big club in the doldrums which means for the right man it's a great opportunity to rally achieve something.
We are like Liverpool when Klopp arrived a big club with a great history with one or two good players plus some ok players but an awful lot of not good enough players filling our squad.
We need the right man for where we are now and that isn't going to be someone who comes for the money or someone who comes because it's he needs a job it has to be someone who really wants it because they are excited about what they can achieve for and with Arsenal football club.
What's the point of getting someone who comes in gets us top 4 next season then gets a better offer from United Bayern Real or whoever and puts us back to square one.

The next manager not only needs to be capable of turning us around he also needs to be 100% committed to making us the best we can be again.

Players seems to be attracted to a "project" they could believe in. Morinho got Zlatan, Bailly and Pagba without CL. Conte got Kante and Luiz without CL. Klopp and Poch seems to get great players or hold on to players without anything but a top 4 to show for. We need a manager that has something interesting going on and have some pulling power. Simeone, Sarri and Jardim would fit the bill IMO.

Players buy into what the club is aiming for over the next 2 to 3 seasons Nor mate, it's not always about the season ahead but whether they can be convinced by the club they will achieve their ambitions by joining them.
Our next manager will have more credibility when it comes to attracting and convincing players to join us than Arsene would have had thi summer simply because he won't have so many seasons of not competing behind him putting players off coming.

I wonder what the arsenal "project" will be?
