Hi Ed's,

A quick question - Arteta said previously that there will be 3 ways our transfers may go depending on what happened with C.V. and where we finished in the league.

Given that it doesn't look like fans will be inside a stadium any time soon, and we won't be playing in Europe any time soon, on top of the financial mess that you repeatedly say the club have created - are there any funds available at all for Arteta to make some signings or will any incomings purely be fuelled by sales?

It is hugely concerning to see the amount of work that needs to be done to our squad. Talks of players like Partey for £50m just don't seem to ring true.

{Ed002's Note - Not much if any. He will likely need to sell to buy.}

Ornstein keeps saying we are in a good financial position.

I suspect 'good' is relative here. 'Better than before' might be more accurate but our net spend is unlikely to be huge. The real challenge is seeing who we can actually get money for without turning ourselves into a worse team in the process.

I can't see us having any sort of financial power in the market until the big earners have left. At the end of next season we have quite a few players out of contract and hopefully they all are allowed to leave without a fuss whilst replacing where we can with youth products.

What would 3 inspired signings do for our team next season?
Kante 5m Vardy 1m Mahrez 500,000, Leicester managed to do it for 6.5 million, Just don't get why everyone is obsessed by money.
Pepe 72 millions Xhaka 35 million Mustafi 35 million, our £140m looks a bit silly when compared to Leicesters 6.5 especially with them winning a title and playing in a champions league QF neither of which we've done for over a decade now.

Thing is g62, those players were pretty low-risk acquisitions for Leicester. We don't have the luxury of low-risk.

We either need great scouting, which we are hit and miss on, or great teambuilding, which is gone after letting Sven go.

Arteta has shown that he can coach some players to a higher level like Klopp can, but let's not forget the huge amounts Liverpool paid for VVD, Alisson, Keita etc either.

But Pepe was 72 million Wire mate while Martinelli was 6 million, one year on which would you choose to keep if you had to let one or the other go? Their market value is probably 40 million each now days.
Klopp earned the right to buy VVD and Alison by buying and selling well while consistently improving the side long before either arrived,
Klopp wasn't given a huge open cheque book or big transfer kitty, Courtino had to leave before others could arrive plus would Alison or VVD have been interested in moving to the Liverpool Klopp inherited or did Klopp have to make Liverpool an appealing first before top players would consider them? . I keep reading about Partey and Arsenal and can't help but think why would he want to come to Arsenal right now?
I know fans love big signings and the club spending big but long after all the huge excitement of Pepe Ozil Xhaka and Mustafi arriving has long since worn off the disappointment has lingered on and on over the wasted millions.
If simply spending money was the answer Untied would be champions not Liverpool or City in the last few seasons.

I agree with Wire - if Arsenal went and spent £6.5m on 3 players then the board/ club would get crucified by the fans and the press. We also aren’t in a position where we can afford to gamble on someone who might be good, which is why I understand the outlay for Pepe after the season he had in France and why we didn’t go for Zaha. Personally I like Pepe and I think he’ll learn more end product under Arteta.

I just can’t see us dropping another £100m plus which we actually need to do, and I can’t see who carries any huge value in our squad that I’d actually want to leave.

God help us.

{Ed047's Note - to be fair, we got over £30 million for Iwobi so you just never know! 🤣

Ed, you’ve suddenly got me feeling very positive! Perhaps we can find someone to give us £30m for Luiz in that case.
