Fans continue to criticise Emery, but don't forget he has only had one season to form the squad as he wishes. He has brought in a total of 8 permanent signings, which includes young Martinelli and Tierney who has yet to start. Next season Saliva arrives.
I am sure Emery wishes to sell and replace: Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Mustafi. Is he convinced by either option at RB and Kolasinac at LB?
My main concern is the defensive side, let's see if the 3 returning defenders improve our defence.

Our display against Spurs was very encouraging, we were all over them for large parts of the game. The goals we conceded were poor but ultimately hard to blame on the manager.
First goal: individual error from Sokratis + individual error from Leno
Second goal: Utterly stupid from Xhaka.

If the football we put together in the second half is what we can begin to expect from Emery's team then I'm very impressed. Ironically it reminded me a lot of Poch's early days with Saints, in terms of the pressing, energy and attacking threat, but without the defensive stability (yet) .

Fans do continue to criticise Emery, in my view because there remain baffling elements to his leadership; accepting that not all transfers in and out will be done at his sole bidding, there has been some crazy activity:
* Ramsey's allowed departure
* Pepe - who of course could turn out to be very good - ahead of a proven Premier League player in Zaha, who publicly wanted to come, who could have been bought for the same if not less.
* the persisnet caution over playing Lacazette and Aubameyang together when it is plain to see they are a beautiful and harmonious strike force who bring out the best in each other.
* Torreira - by far and away our most effective defensive midfielder last season, but used so sparingly and often being favoured by.
Emery's most baffling muse of all: Xhaka.
I could bang on and on about Xhaka, but simply ask: why? And Captain too? Unfathomable.

To give balance: Iwobi. Up to £35m in total! Genuis, sheer genius.
