Ornstein confirmed that deal close for Kepa. What's going on?

{Ed014's Note - I’m guessing there’s some kind of clause, Edu signed up to, that we have to have a Chelsea reject in our squad until 2027! ?

Agree0 Disagree1

07 Jun 2025 19:06:07
We've triggered his £5m release clause according to Ornstein.

07 Jun 2025 19:09:04
Not a bad back up keeper and very cheap?

07 Jun 2025 19:51:45
And we want competition in every position.

07 Jun 2025 20:08:53
Really difficult to get a top class keeper in their prime to accept the number 2 spot Beefy mate so I'm with you, not a bad back up.

07 Jun 2025 20:34:12
Another Chelsea reject - guess we got rid of Sterling so we had to get another to keep Kai company on the bench,

Tired of buying players that aren’t good enough for City or Chelsea but deemed good enough for us. Even his current team sent him back to Chelsea and kept Neto….

To be fair - a cheap solution for a back up keeper with experience but doesn’t do much for our standing as a big club.

07 Jun 2025 20:38:32
Sondecent that even Bournemouth didn't want to keep him. This isn't a good signing at all.

08 Jun 2025 10:32:54
Sy and Sharpie, which really decent keeper would come as a backup to Raya?
If Madrid come in for Raya it would be a very different matter I reckon and then we'd have to go all out for a new no.1 keeper!

08 Jun 2025 11:32:33
I can’t see an issue here! Saying Bournemouth are preferring Neto to Kepa isn’t true. They sent Neto out on loan and preferred Kepa. Maybe we could just could possibly think Bournemouth are looking at a new number one eg Ramsdale who played there who wouldn’t stay as our number two. Neto played 2 games!

Experienced, rated by Bournemouth fans and let in 1.2 goals per game. Agree with Sally a top keeper won’t wear being number 2 unless you are C£ty and pay gazillions to sweeten those splinters!

Be interesting to see how Allison and their new keeper get on . Didn’t go well for Leno / Martinez and Raya / Ramsdale partnerships.

Not on my radar that Arsenal are a small club with this signing COYG.

{Ed014's Note - in hindsight Sussex, I think it’s just the Chelsea link that bugs me more than Kepa himself.

Whilst he’s not a number 1 he’s a capable backup in the world of second choice keepers.

If he pushes Raya to be better, more so than Neto, then that’s a bonus too.

08 Jun 2025 11:54:18
Ed014 let’s ignore the Chelsea link - he’s spent the last two years at no less than Real Madrid and Bournemouth! While we’re at it let’s ignore his petulant spat with Sarri #ignoreanythingwedontagreewith?. COYG.

{Ed014's Note - that’s why I’m ignoring it, in hindsight obvs?

08 Jun 2025 12:00:53
Ancelloti felt he was a good enough number 2 and they won the Champions League. Just can’t see the downside COYG.

{Ed014's Note - #noneedtolabouryourvalidpoint!?

08 Jun 2025 12:15:14
I think the fact he has come from Chelsea is the real issue for those who are unhappy at arrival of Kepa.

The player himself is not responsible for people's feelings about past ex Chelsea players and he should be judged on his own his own merits, the club would be foolish to turn down a good deal simply because of fans feelings about past dealings with one particular club.

Personally I don't think Petr Cech, Jorgonho and Kai were been bad signings for us at all but accept others like Stirling and Willian didn't come off as everyone had hoped. All singings are a gamble no matter who they are or where they come from and all clubs and managers get it wrong sometimes.

08 Jun 2025 12:23:08
??? #censorship? I thought it was the done thing to labour a point ??? COYG.

{Ed014's Note - now that’s a point you can’t labour to much!??

08 Jun 2025 14:20:12
It’s just the label of us buying City and Chelsea rejects - none of the past 3 or 4 are good signings and players Chelsea didn’t want. Luiz, Willian, Kai, Sterling - none of them should have happened. We can’t keep being rejects from Chelsea it’s a terrible label.

This is a good cheap signing for 5m as back up as long as we aren’t paying 150k in wages.

It’s 100% the Chelsea / City reject label that annoys me as we are better than that.

08 Jun 2025 14:21:45
Forgot about Jorginho - should never have been allowed. Another player who slows down play and past his prime.

{Ed014's Note - What about your mate Gallas???

08 Jun 2025 14:59:02
Maybe it really is time to take a break from City and Chelsea player's, prehaps going back to Man United for more like Silvestre, Mkhitaryan Welbeck would make a nice change ?.

08 Jun 2025 16:01:18
Very true 62 - in the Wenger years that weren’t his best but still delivered regular silverware. What’s your point? That Arteta is making decisions like Wenger in his decline? ? ? What happened to our best manager when he made these decisions?

Ef014 - you've got a good memory. Not a Gallas fan but I do listen to ex-pros more than I do posters with rise tinted specs ? although some just state things to create noise around their name or they are a spurs player or hidden agenda…

You know I’ve hit rock bottom if I quote numptey Keir ( Change my opinion on everything Starmer even to the point as to what a woman is) on needing to invest in a striker. ? ?.

{Ed014's Note - personally wouldn’t pay any attention to what 99.99% of what ex pros waffle on about.

To think ex pros like Rooney get paid to talk about other managers when they are probably more capable of doing the job than that clown.

08 Jun 2025 18:15:40
Historically which selling clubs have consistently sold us players that turned out to be really good singing for us? Are these the clubs where we should look to sign all the future players from?

Equally which club's have sold us the most players who failed to deliver for us? Should we form a banned list and refuse to ever do business with these clubs ever again?

Or alternatively should we judge each potential new signing on their own individual ability and the price it would take to bring them to Arsenal regardless of whoever the potential selling club just happen to be, leaving the past where it truly belongs.

08 Jun 2025 18:59:33
Yes, mostly the Chelsea link. Almost every player we've bought from them seem to have come over in their decline. I would have happily had Szczesny back instead.

If I touch a hot stove a few times, I learn quickly not to do it again. If Arsenal repeatedly buy what turn out to be duds from Chelsea, well, my reaction to another such signing is going to be quite understandable.

08 Jun 2025 20:30:24
Liverpool or City won’t sell us their best players unless they can upgrade etc.

What person is their right mind was saying - let’s sign Kai 3 years ago…. Yet now he’s great. BS. Chelsea made a mockery out of us getting 65m for him and our FFP being impacted by his ridiculous 280k wage. That’s more than Nico, Sesko etc etc. that could have gotten us Watkins. That was a Marmoush investment and impacted the wage expectations of all. Why would Saka be happy that Kai is on 280K pw…

Chelsea have found a great way to dispose of players. The board / Boss have been able to buy players with experience to help get us top 4 but completely lack ambition to get players to really progress us.

Same story in the Jan window - we are happy getting top 4 and Europe. Selling us short.

Same for City. - they won’t allow us to get better than them by selling best player to us. Utd were the same when Wenger was a competitor. When we weren’t, we were happy buying their rejects and look where it got us.

You are defending the board / boss blindly - I’m not attacking the boss just stating buying rejects from competitors cannot make us better than them by definition…I am drawing the parallels for you. Not attacking you. Or Arteta.

{Ed014's Note - it doesn’t take much to light your touch paper SY ??

08 Jun 2025 21:12:30
Ec014 - can you delete

{Ed014's Note - sorry SY, once it’s up I can’t delete it mate.

08 Jun 2025 21:20:34
You are not wrong Ed, I’m putting my phone down. I’m sure 62 knows what buttons to press. It’s the blind faith that gets me and not questioning what we do.
I need to chill - I am genuinely open minded to be wrong and enjoy challenge and friction as that’s how I understand thinks better. That and listening to experts hence my question to you,

I try to back up my point because I want to understand what I’m missing so ask for a counter argument with substance.

I’m a little blunt also - not to be mean or I know best. I just am . It’s that or waffle… lol

I should take it easy.

{Ed014's Note - you should defo do that SY, I’m no expert though, we all know what we want the club to do and football is a passionate sport.

We just have to except a little, that we can’t control what happens inside the club as much as we’d truly love too.

Doesn’t mean we can’t have opinions, I know you wear your heart on your sleeve, maybe just try not to let things eat you up so much.

08 Jun 2025 21:50:20
Cool - appreciate the comments

Thanks for all your replies

Enjoy your week ❤️?

You too 62 ❤️?.

{Ed014's Note - and you too SY ?

11 Jun 2025 14:49:13
You're a good man SY and a lot of what you write aligns with what I think - you wear your corazon outside yourself. That aside let's be positive and get behind our boys. No other posters from different clubs has or have (IMO) the same passion as what use posters share on this site. We need to get behind the board and our boys and be optimistica about what lays ahead. Onwards and upwards carnal (you'll need to look that term up as English is not my first language) .

11 Jun 2025 20:05:51
Hi Corbs, hope you are well. Love the word corazon. I really am hopeful for this season. Genuinely think Arteta has realised he needs a striker and better options. Hopefully we get the business done and everyone is celebrating! Espero que estés bien y feliz. bienvenido a la pagina. ?.
