Granted I didn't see the game live yesterday but on MOTD highlights we seemed to be thwarted by a very good Everton defense and keeper, not necessarily by any weak display by our players.
I think this will be the way teams will set up against attacking teams across the league. Pretty much as we did against City.
The answer? Perhaps draw the opposition defense and play on the counter? I know Martinelli is getting a bad press at the moment but with his speed he could be a target man if we decide to do this.
And could any half decent no.9 break down this sort of defensive setup?
I personally hate this sort of football.
Anyway on to the next one:)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we have to try something different Sally and I have always thought Martinelli had a potential to play down the middle. I'm more than happy to see us give this a go and equally happy for us to try something different again if the Martinelli option doesn't pay off as we think it might and of course hope it would.

Where there's a will there's a way and I've absolutely no doubts about the will being there from everyone in our current set up.

Hi Sally
I didn’t really see us cutting thru their midfield or defence with swift passing or speed of thought.
I didn’t see much from the left
I didn’t see any intelligent substitutions
Didn’t really see us peppering their goal and Pickford pulling off done world class saves.
However you are right we had a few shots and had possession but that’s ultimately pointless.
I didn’t see the team switch up with the news from Anfield or step up in pace or passion anywhere.
We got what we deserved and showed we ran out of ideas and talent and options and tactics to overcome a stubborn Everton who I believe Utd thrashed.
Hope you are well and have a super Christmas - which I saw the same game as you as it was like the big bad wolf huffing and puffing while the Emperor was exposed as he had no clothes.

15 Dec 2024 14:29:36
Interesting analogy. Trying to work out who the big bad wolf was lol
Seasons greetings to you and yours Sy ? ? ? ⛄️.

15 Dec 2024 15:11:58
Sorry for the short rude reply Sally.

15 Dec 2024 16:19:53
? Sy sorry what short sharp reply. I thought your post was excellent .

15 Dec 2024 21:30:55
We got exposed and we should be prepared for the same to happen again by teams that not bothered about winning but a happy with a point, as sally mentioned only way to break that up is counter attacking let them come to us and we hit them on the break not the best way but maybe the only way, we can only do this if we strengthen in January. Arteta build a good team to break us into the top 4 and champions league now we need further refinements to improve. We are potentially 9 point from being top of the league but 7 points ahead of Tottenham who sit 10th if we don’t pull up our socks we are in big trouble. Fans won’t continue supporting what we have currently and even the players may start doubting the process Arteta needs to find the solution quickly.

16 Dec 2024 09:45:53
Hi G4 mate but how can you counter attack a team that's happy with a point and isn't interested in attacking your goal mate? If both teams just sat back nothing would happen and it would still be 0 0 at full time. As the home team and the better team it's on us to attack and break through our opponents defences in order to score first and make them come out more. More long range efforts from outside the box wouldn't go a miss against well organised and disciplined defences.

16 Dec 2024 11:46:13
You can counterattack teams like these by not dithering on the ball and then passing back, sideways, back again, sideways. Oh look, the other team are now all back behind the ball, let's try and attack them.

We need to be quicker moving the ball forward.

16 Dec 2024 12:41:29
G62 if I knew the answer to that question I would be managing arsenal and not leaving to Arteta. I am sure he knows the issue he is facing and thinking of solutions mate. Its frustrating on fans to see our season exploding infront of us. We have to be careful with what we wish for and the media are doing all they can to add the pressure. If we do push Arteta out at this stage I don't think it will be astep forward but instead we will be in free fall again and we may not get so lucky this time round.

16 Dec 2024 13:45:21
I agree G4 mate, getting rid if Arteta would be Man United madness. Unquestionably we have issues to resolve but ultimately things are far from terrible, the desire is there from players and manger and I genuinely believe as long as that genuine desire is there all will come good ?.

16 Dec 2024 14:32:52
What my concern is if we walk away empty handed this season than the players will start doubting the teams ability and their heads may turn if and when other teams come looking.

16 Dec 2024 17:28:22
Hi again G4, to be fair apart from City where could our player's possibly go to be more competitive than at Arsenal mate? The last two seasons it's been City, Arsenal and the rest of the league. The current season is just games old and has an awful lot of mileage left in it for us and everyone else.

I personally feel claims of this Arsenal's sudden and dramatic decline are being grossly exaggerated and there really isn't that much wrong that we need to even looking at the panic button let alone reaching for it. Let's see where we and everyone else is come are come March and April, let's be honest just 6 weeks ago some people were already concededing this seasons title to City but very few people are thinking the same way now.

{Ed025's Note - they are thinking Liverpool now G62, they are the team to beat and will be 9 points clear of Arsenal when they batter Southampton on wednesday mate, lets be honest if you cant beat Everton at home things look very bleak of winning any titles, you do have some very good players but im not over keen on the tippy tappy passing for passings sake style of play you adopt myself, i would love to be wrong but i think top 4 is the best you can achieve this season..

16 Dec 2024 18:48:41
Hi Ed025 mate how are you?

6 weeks ago after we had lost to Newcastle in the lunchtime kick off someone claimed we were 9 points behind City before they'd even played Bournemouth that same afternoon because very understandably they assumed high flying top of the table City would beat Bournemouth no problem at all, but of course that didn't happen, City lost that game and then went on a totally unprecedented run of defeats that is still taking place.

In the words of the late Jimmy Greaves " it's a funny old game" and while I'm not for a minute suggesting Southampton will beat Liverpool this week and Liverpool wil then go on a total meltdown, stranger things have definitely happened, just ask Pep ???.

I've long since given up on fortune telling and presenting the future as I was always pretty rubbish at it but I do remember me and you last Christmas both insisting that Arsenal had no chance of winning the title last season unless we bought a proven goal scorer in January, well we didn't buy a proven goal scorer but we did totally unexpectedly go on to set all kinds of goal scoring records from January 1st onwards without that proven goal scorer take the title race to the final game of the season.

It really is a funny old game mate and as always time will really tell, but for me I'm happy to back this team and manager while they keep giving it everything they have to give even when that everything isn't always enough to achieve everything I want them to achieve. Up The Arsenal mate ?.

{Ed025's Note - hi G62 im good thanks my friend and hope you are too, i suppose its a bit of selfishness on my part as i was telling everyone that the Arsenal would win the league this season, i really believed it was on the cards you know but on reflection im not sure your squad is good enough mate, a few injuries to key players and you seem very beatable im afraid, you have some great players but if the likes of Saka,Odegaard, Rice or one of the CB,s are out it turns you into a very average team, if you cant beat a very poor Everton at home i think that tells us everything, i do hope i am wrong but top 4 and maybe a cup will soften the blow but even at this relatively early stage i think the Premiership title may have gone, i have been wrong before though ...but that was in 1979.. :)

16 Dec 2024 19:45:16
We are miles behind the leaders and not even a close second.

We are terrible to watch and could break down any side with that pathetic speed we attack at

We are predictable and one dimensioned in our attack

Our manager assembled the lopsided squad and dished out huge fees and salaries

Our manager picks the formation, tactics and how we do / don’t respond to being out played by opposition

He’s accountable for our results and they are poor SO questions can and should be asked if he can get us to the next level. He hasn’t earned the right to get a pass.

Our players could go to psg, real, Barca, city, Liverpool, Chelsea etc etc to win trophies. Plenty options for Saka. Probably not Kai.

The manager also managed a team that bottled it twice and haven’t progressed. Gave us a team with no striker. He needs to answer questions as it’s not all peachy. If top 4 is our goal then fine - roll over and let’s tickle your tummy. If we want to win the league then let’s demand more and ask questions to those who are in charge.

{Ed025's Note - that must have been hard for you to put down in words SY but i have a feeling that you are not alone on this unfortunately mate..

16 Dec 2024 20:00:25
We needed a striker all season - we missed a proper option against City which would have changed the run in and against Villa. Arteta had already done the damage not sign8ng one earlier.

I strongly blamed him the winter before when he bottled it and results clearly show we needed a striker.

16 Dec 2024 20:21:52
Frustrating and painful Ed but honest. As long as someone is asking those types of questions, holding Arteta accountable, ensuring the board stays ambitious then we won’t repeat the later Wenger years plus have a chance of winning something.
I want to enjoy my football, be excited by the next game and have a genuine belief that we could win a cup.

I don’t just want to moan…. But feel we should expect our club to act like they want to win, be brave and compete

?.

{Ed025's Note - i know how you feel SY, our cup final was last week with a 0-0 draw at your place mate..

16 Dec 2024 21:00:54
All good with me too thanks Ed025, I do actually remember you being wrong in 1979 mate, you predicted Boney M would be bigger than The Beatles and tank tops would never ever go out of fashion, mind you, you was drinking a lot of snakebite back then if I remember right ???.

{Ed025's Note - i have still got my Birmingham bags from back then G62, they are a bit tighter now though mate.. :)

16 Dec 2024 21:09:55
Cone next May we will know everything there is to know about the 2024/ 25 season SY mate, but until then it's all just thoughts, opinions and feelings from us all mate. The really nice thing about the future is there are absolutely no facts about it whatsoever, so until the future actually gets here everything is still to play for. Up The Arsenal ?.

16 Dec 2024 21:24:58
Google TH14 commenting on how slow, predictable and boring we are. Only getting goals from Saka or Corners. Yep - that’s how we score and it’s true even if you try to stop people typing it….

Arsenal: Thierry Henry analyses Gunners' 'predictable' football in Premier League

A lot of sense delivered by King Henry.

16 Dec 2024 21:28:03
I've still the boomerang I bought in 1979 Ed025, I've tried throwing it away loads of times but!

{Ed025's Note - love it G62.. :)

16 Dec 2024 22:06:53
In 2015 TH named Le Coq the " police man" and predicted a big Arsenal future for him SY, again mate there are no facts about the future, only thoughts, opinions and feelings about it.

We can all find and quote pundits who agree with us and our views and opinions SY but ultimately absolutely nothing is changed, known or decided by my, yours, TH or Peirs Morgans views mate. Only time always speaks the truth mate.

17 Dec 2024 09:34:58
Hi 62, back then TH was talking about an up and coming defensive midfielder who was a team member. TH normally speaks highly of us. Watch the video or read the articles in today’s papers. Come back and say you don’t see what he’s saying bud. Don’t come back with an analogy or philosophy. Just listen to the man and share your thoughts. He’s not attacking his beloved Arsenal he’s just using the same words that many are saying about our one dimensional plodding boring attack. A new striker won’t solve the issue as he won’t get the chances but if we sort that - Kai can’t be the shooter. Look at Haaland when City are cooking. We don’t have that demon infront of goal for some reason that only Arteta knows. No doubt he wants a hard working attacker to go along with his negative fullback approach. All making us defensive but boring. He can’t get the balance….

17 Dec 2024 12:09:37
Mate, like most people i really like TH but that doesn't mean I need to hang on or agree with his every word. I mean if TH told you to put marmite all over your Christmas dinner you wouldn't do it, or would you? ?

To each their own mate and if you choose to listen to TH sharing his unhappiness that is 100% your choice and I totally respect whatever you choose for yourself mate, but personally I won't be tuning in to TH tales of woe while the Archeres podcast is still available to me as an alternative source of entertainment.
