Remember the 79) 80 season
Played 70 games that season ended up with zilch. Smaller squads then as well.
Lost to the Hammers in the cup final on the Saturday lost to Valencia in the European Cup winners Cup final on penalties on the Wednesday.
Still had 2 league games to play
Had to win both to get a European spot for next season
Beat Wolves on the Friday then lost big time on the Monday to Leeds or Middlesbrough can't remember which
Remember Terry Neill saying how hard it was to take after such a long season playing 70 games and coming up with nothing.

Terry Neill
Moved from Bangor youth team to Arsenal for £2500. Captain of the team at the ripe old age of 20, a record still held today. Playing 270 games for the Gunners before coming back to manage them again at the ripe old age of 34. He signed Superman and Big Pat, with other players such as Stapleton, David O'Leary and The great Liam Brady emerging into the team. He assembled a really great team.
He was also player manager of Northern Ireland once quipping that he would put himself on the team sheet before Big Pat and Georgie Best!
Northern Ireland doesn't have a plethora of great footballers over the years. Terry Neill was certainly one of them and more importantly he was an incredibly nice man.
RIP Mr Neill.
