just want to say that that i feel arsenal fans need to relax. i understand we are signing fabio vieira but we need more so don't get excited. we need 2 strikers, i.e jesus and osimhen, 1 winger to replace pepe i. e. gnabry, a cm i. e. tielemans, and either a rb or lb such as djed spence. do not lower your standards for this football club! we deserve the best.

Agree0 Disagree0

We do need two strikers Dags along with Nketiah. Jesus will come to Arsenal to be the main man. Do think Osimhen will come to be second striker?

16 Jun 2022 22:29:11
Barkeep, I'll have one of whatever he's having please.

16 Jun 2022 22:31:37
Just for clarity, do you actually mean i. e, rather than e. g? Honestly not being obnoxious.

16 Jun 2022 22:59:28
What difference do our standards make? They will sign who they sign, we can't affect it, no point worrying about any of it.

16 Jun 2022 23:33:20
Eden we can affect it. Fans need to raise standards and stop always accept mediocrity or get excited about a player you’ve never seen play. If you want the old arsenal back where we were competing for the best honours, raise your standards.

Dags - I would argue this is getting the old Arsenal back, to a degree. I get your point mate, we should expect the best. But the Arsenal of old has never really had success seeking the 'best'. Vieira, Petit, Gilberto, Fabregas, RVP, Koscielny etc were all relatively unknown. Heck, Cazorla, Henry, Rosicky, Pires, Overmars were only slightly more established, but not exactly considered 'the best' around. I would argue the likes of Ozil, PEA and Partey as the most established players we have sought.

My point is, Arsenal's history of success is mainly built from relatively unknown, young players. We will never be a club like City, splashing millions on Haaland. I can't say I have ever watched or heard of Fabio Vieira, but from what i'm reading he fits the mould of our recent player profile. I think he does bring some excitement.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but that is utter nonsense. All of those players were extremely well known, particularly Rosicky, Henry and Overmars. Overmars was seen as a massive coup when you signed him. Vieira was only available because he had struggled after a move to Italy as he was having difficulty settling in, but he was a big name youngster that they bought in the first place. Petit was probably the closest to an unknown and only in respect as it was an unknown that he could play in midfield as he was a centre-back. Arsenal's entire success was built on big spending on well established names - hence why you were originally known as the 'Bank of England' club.}

what does not seeing him play before have to do with not getting excited, I have not seen him play, but obviously read up now and he sounds like a highly regarded player by people who know a lot more than you and me.

I hadn't seen Ronaldo play before he went to utd, or (OG) Vieira came to arsenal. I was still excited about both after reading up

you may not want to get excited DG and that's fine, but why tell others not to and then suggest it's because their standards are not high I find it really odd, we are building, with harder opposition and more teams with money than when we built the 90/ 00 teams.

Fans and media need to let go of the past, we are not that team or that club anymore, and its not a 2 team prem anymore ( as in the main attraction used to be Arsenal and UTD)

is it the marquee signing we all want, NO,
is it an exciting signing and in line with what we are building? YES
lets not put a downer on everything the club is doing.

please don't take that as an attack DG, its really not meant like that.

17 Jun 2022 11:31:44
Not taking it as an attack Hampshire mate. What I’m saying is that it’s One signing. Let’s not get overly excited about one signing. We have huge holes we need to fill in the starting 11. The signing can be a very good signing, I’m not denying that. What I’m saying is we have been starved of great signings over the years, do not get overly excited about this one yet. Let’s get all the signing the team needs to allow our young players to flourish, only then should we get excited. How many years have gone by and we have said we need this or that? Let’s get excited after we as fans get what we deserve.

It is what it is DG and yours and anyone else's getting upset with it will only effect you and those who choose to get upset by its happiness levels.

Some people get optometistic over anyone new while others getting pessimistic about anyone who is not of there personal liking but the reality is until they put on an Arsenal shirt nothing is known about anyone but it 77m Pepe who everyone went crazy excited for or 30m Ramsdale who everyone moaned about until both appeared in our shirt and showed what they could do for the Arsenal.

Wait and see, it's the only rational option.

17 Jun 2022 19:25:12
I get what you're saying DG and I agree, I'm certainly not excited by the signing I wish him all the best and I hope he's a great signing but there's plenty more important positions need filling before it. But it's early days hopefully those will be addressed before the start of the season and then we can get excited, but if they're not, what do we do to show our displeasure? Riot? ?.

17 Jun 2022 19:43:02
Eden mate, have you ever called your boss and told him to stick his job because of the way he spoke to next Tuesday afternoon at 3pm?

No neither have ???, what's the point in getting upset about something that hasn't happened or not happened yet.

20 Jun 2022 15:27:59
Yes, absolutely echo that last statement DG mate, A few more departures and key areas sorted and it looks like it has the chance to be 2 decent summers of transfers.
