There is clearly progression in our football right now and Arteta can't be held responsible for stupid individual errors. Yes he's encouraging playing out from the back but I guarantee that he doesn't say "put yourselves in danger by doing it".

Going forward we are actually looking threatening with every attack, whether it be down the flanks with the full backs, through the middle and even over the top from the CBs.

Luiz has been so much better of late but he always has that that mistake in him which he got away with last night. Xhaka is the same, he's had a much better season but he's unreliable with his discipline and decision making. Dani C hasn't lived up to the hype either and he's shown that he's capable of silly mistakes too. I hope that's not a signing we look to make permanent.

Odegaard looks very comfortable. He's a bit slow to move the ball at times but that's purely down to lack of experience of the league. Very promising early signs in my opinion and I hope we get to see him again next season whether that be on loan or permanent.

The first half of the season wasn't great but the 2nd half has been much better in terms of our performances and creativity. If we can eradicate the silly mistakes and play a little more sensibly at times, I think we can start to make big leaps back towards the top of the table.

I could easily sit here and slate us for our efforts this season but I think there are positives to be found in our style of play and our squad. I'd back Arteta again in the summer and let the overhaul continue. He's already hinted that the summer will be more of the same in terms of incomings and outgoings and it will be massive for us.

And lastly, what a header by Gabriel last night. Sublime! COYG!

I agree with that Glenn.

Very good post Glen. The only problem is whether it is players or manager we are in a situation where we can't really say how it will turn out if it continues. Should we spend another year testing and then again start rebuilding from scratch or go for a big name manager and invest in the team now. This season has been one step forward and two steps backwards.
Having said that if we beat spuds on Sunday, I will change my mind!
It's unacceptable losing to spuds but it's unbearable losing to spuds and Mourinho.

Just out of interest how long wouid people give Mikel into next season if inconsistency and mid table persists?

End of October? January 1st or the whole of next season no matter what?

Is there an acceptable level of results that Artetas Arsenal must achieve for him to keep his job next season or is it quite simply back Mikel regardless and hope it's ok?

Fanatic the problem is we don’t have any money to attract a world class manager.

12 Mar 2021 19:52:02
Our net spend over the last 5 years has only been beaten by United and City Mark.
We are 3rd in the spending table, money hasn't been the problem mate.

12 Mar 2021 21:16:22
True John, but ed002 did say we was spending money we don’t have.

12 Mar 2021 22:33:37
That's true too Mark mate,
It's just so weird that the more we spend the worse we get.

24 consecutive years of finishing in a European qualifying places in the league and now 2 seasons on the trot of finishing outside the European qualifications places, despite all the spending more than ever before.

I can't think of an acceptable explanation for why that is.

13 Mar 2021 04:22:29
G62 its simple - because the signings are not improving the team. If they don't offer a big upgrade, they just add unnecessary competition and take time to bed in.

13 Mar 2021 09:53:54
You maybe right Wire mate, whatever it is it needs addressing now!

We've slipped from

Competitive force to
Top 4 non competitive team to
Europa league level to
Non European places

This trend needs reversing next season as another season in decline would bring all kinds of problems with our best young players.

Gunner I think we should see who we bring in and who leaves in the summer before making a judgement on Mikel. I'm sure this will show us which direction the club is heading in and how ambitious we are.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Eds comments on possible transfers 😃.

As always Sally time will tell all

My opinion is 100% based on observation of what definitely has happened and what definitely is happening right now but as for what will or won't definitely happen in the future I freely admit " I know nothing 🤗 " as Manuel would say 😃.

20 years ago Managers would be fighting to run the club irrespective of the salary - unfortunately not the case nowadays.

13 Mar 2021 13:56:45
Whatever manager eventually delivers a trophy at Newcastle will become an absolute true legend on Tyneside Banbury mate and whatever manager gets Arsenal back as a genuine force that truly challenges and wins titles again can expect the same adulation at Arsenal.

It took Liverpool 30 years, so only 13 years to wait if we follow in their footsteps 😎.

13 Mar 2021 14:50:17
Think is 62 Liverpool had European success during that time, we won’t be so lucky.

13 Mar 2021 15:51:30
Very true Banbury mate, plus they had the odd season challenging and CL football on and off.

5 years ago when we went out of the champions league last 16 for the last time and the players left tyr field with the CL theme music playing the commentator asked " I wonder how long it will be before we hear that music played again at the Emirates? " I remember thinking " 2 or 3 years probably ".
In fact it's 4 seasons and counting and we are now further away from top 4 than at any time since the European cup became the CL.

Things ain't good at Arsenal to say the least mate.
