Ed, it's clear that Luiz was unlucky to be sent off. The decision went to VAR where it's reviewed to ensure a good decision. I don't understand how it can be appealed and VAR still be seen as a solution to tight decisions. Can it go to appeal and do you think VAR could be over turned. If overturned, where does that leave VAR.

Goal line technology has been a huge success, it's instant and accurate 99.9% of the time, although it did get it wrong in the villa v Sheffield United game last season :-) .
For me you have to ballance what var brings to the game and where it detracts from the game and in my opinion the time it takes and the way it interrupts the game is far to high a price for the contentious benefits it brings.

Ok, so. VAR helps decide on penalty but ref decided penalty so that’s the appeal? Sorry of a stupid question. Stupid things like this interest me.

VAR itself isn't the problem, it's how it's used and the people using it that make it a complete sham. When you throw in a few extra stupid rules like 'is the armpit hair is offside' and 'are his fingers in a natural position' then it's bound to cause controversy. I'm still going to back VAR though. If its used properly and some common sense is brought back to the game then I think it could work really well.

It's our demand for perfection that is the problem Glen mate.
The game ran brilliantly with a reference and 2 linesmen for a century and all we have done is end up with a long drawn out ridiculous method that is no more perfect than the one we used for more than 100 years.

I’m with you 62 - can’t celebrate a goal for 5 minutes because of var . still have poor decisions so crack on without it. Swings and roundabouts with decisions and loads of passion better than rulers deciding off sides. Step backwards for me and still leaves other ooor decisions not reviewed in a game - so what’s the point.
