I know we have discussed this point on a number of occasions but would like to add this here anyway.
This is Steve Bruce's reply when asked about Karl Darlow (man of the match) after the nil nil draw with Liverpool.
"He's had to wait patiently for his chance and certainly the way he's trained everyday and now Dúbravka has got back fit and we need out goalkeeper to step up and he's done fantastically well and at the moment the jersey is his because of his performances . ".

I've always thought when you get your chance the place should be yours to lose, if you come in and do well you should stay in the team regardless if your a free transfer or a record signing.

The Decision to put Leno back in goal and selling Martinez. So just reiterating the apparently bad decision MA made regarding the goalkeeper position.

The decision to sell Martinez for just 20 million and buy a backup useless goalkeeper for 5 million is shocking.
We went from having the best combined goalkeepers in the league to the worst for 15 million?
Martin Lewis should have kept his place until performance suggested otherwise. We could have got more than 20 million for Leno next year if you cannot get into the first team because BM would have brought him to replace neuer
Selling Martinez sent the wrong message to the team and squad at the start of the season. Arteta plays his favourites.

Keepers is a tricky position to have strength in numbers in.
The number 2 keeper is usually young, past thier best or unproven hence they are prepared to train but seldom play.
Once your number 2 keeper proves themselves as good enough to be first choice then you have a decision to make, keeping Leno and Martinez wasn't an option, Arteta had to choose between the two and 50% of fans were always going to think he was wrong who ever he chose.
