Hello Eds, Merry Christmas to you all, with a wish for a healthy New Year for everyone and with thanks for all your hard work this year 🎅 🎄 ❄ ⛄

Unless you are off for the festive season would you mind giving me your views on whether the problems at Arsenal are because Arteta is causing problems for the players or if the players are causing problems for Arteta?

{Ed001's Note - it is always both, but good managers find a way to get through problems.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair it's the managers job to motivate and get the best out of his players not the players job to motivate and get the best out of the manager.

This is true of all industries not just football and those who cultivate a positive trusting relationship with thier staff tend to get the best performance from their staff.

With Ozil has Mikel shown his players he has their backs and they can trust him or that he's a company yes man who will tow the company line regardless of whether they are right or wrong?

I'm still amazed when people are paid the obscene amount of money as they are that they still need motivating by someone else.

It’s almost offensive Steven.

No matter how much you pay someone they never stop being human beings with the same human strengths/ weaknesses as everyone else.

I’m with you Gunner. Their wage is somewhat irrelevant as it’s a competitive rate for their market place. They are either motivated or demotivated and either have pride or no pride.

I think we should have a more results based remuneration structure to align pay and performance to help engagement and motivation but that’s most, y down to atmosphere at work, your team and manager.

I would like to see a decent % of pay tied to wins, goals, clean sheets etc etc as well as league finish.

I think when you feel part of something special it goes beyond money, if your happy and enjoying your work life balance then you really have something to lose so you fight hard to keep it.

If life is good but work isn't then you get simple go through the motions at work until knocking off time comes round and can start enjoying life again, in that respect £500 or £50,000 becomes irrelevant.

I worry we are in danger of treating footballers as commodities, primarily because of their unrealistic wages but also because of our unrealistic expectations of them. I feel the constant criticism, especially of younger players, will ensure they don't progress to the best they can be.

How many of us could take the vitriol that is thrown at them and which they are exposed to on a daily basis? Humans are complex creatures. For some they need a firm hand and others thrive with care. I think the majority of our players could represent our club to a good standard and for those who can't they will be moved on quite soon.

Whether Mikel is the right person to manage them I don't know but we had the same problem with Arsene and Emery with the same group of players. Arsene was accused of being too soft, Emery of being too confusing and Mikel of being bad at man management.

Probably true in all cases so to find a coach/ manager who is right for us is going to be hard I think, especially with our dreaded management structure!

Anyway Happy Christmas to you all and let's hope 2021 brings a change of fortune for our beloved Gunners and good health and happiness to you all (wealth doesn't feature too high on my list of priorities haha) 🎅 🎄 ❄.

{Ed047's Note - happy Christmas to you too Sally, have a great one and 🤞 for 2021 on all fronts.

Merry Christmas Sally, I think we've all had a good reminder in 2020 of what really matters most.
