The Guardian has an interesting piece. It highlights a lot that been discussed on this site.

Training -
"I've never had such detailed training sessions, " he said. "Sometimes it's not always nice . it's not that you jump around and have fun and score a lot of goals. It's more about focusing and knowing when you go to the next game that you know exactly what you have to do. "

Arsenal are 13th in the ranking for "progress", which measures the distance moved upfield per sequence, and rock bottom when it comes to the speed at which those moves carry them up the pitch. For a side who forced high-profile errors with their off-the ball efforts in the summer they have been conservative on that front too, sitting among this season's bottom four in measures of pressing intensity.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has cut an isolated figure out wide in the past five top-flight games; he has not scored in any of them, or come especially close. Without space to run into it has been too easy to shepherd Aubameyang away from goal and too hard for those charged with feeding him to find him in dangerous areas.

A flat central midfield is a hindrance, with Granit Xhaka and the never-quite-convincing Dani Ceballos an unnecessarily safe pair to work alongside Thomas Partey. It was a breath of fresh air to see Joe Willock, overdue a strong performance, bursting between the lines to excellent effect against Dundalk.

When you look at the rigid training and style of play the players are moaning about plus the drop off in pressing opponents - you have to think the Ozil issue is more about a clash of footballing culture than effort. How Ozil plays best / wants to play Vs how Arteta believes he needs us to play. That's the only footballing reason I can think of. But that still seems BS as you wouldn't drop him completely out of the entire squad.

Loosen that grip on the team and stop looking in the rear mirror - play a maverick and take a little from what Wenger taught you. We need a good blend of Wenger and Graham not a Jose. That's what I picked up.

COYG - we know you and the boss have it in you.

Arteta needa to play Willock today. We can't continue to play so defensively and without creativity, and just hope for a counter attacking goal and defensive error by the opposition. My team would be:
Leno
Bellerin Luiz Gabriel Tierney
Zhaka Partey
Willock
Pepe Aubameyang Saka.

Luiz is out with injury I believe. That puts Mustafi in there. I’d probably put Willian in for Pepe. Willock played Thursday - think he will revert to Dani unfortunately. But fingers crossed. Probably to big a game but could ESR play there?

I’d like to see -

3 Defenders: Gabriel, Mustafi. and Saliba

5 Midfielders: Willian, Xhaka, Partey, Elneny, Saka

2 Forwards: Lacazette and Aubameyang,

Don’t think he will roll with my team as won’t drop Tierney and Bellerin nor will he have no CD on the bench. Hoping Granit and Elneny sit dead while Partey wins the ball further up the pitch and turns to attack quicker plus plays more box to box. Gone for the 2 up front and see of PEA benefits from Laca movement to create space down the middle for him. Hopefully a few quick long balls from Granit, Gabriel and runs from Partey allow space for PEA also.

He will go with - Leno, Bellerin, Gabriel, Mustafi, Tierney, Partey, Granit, Dani, Saka, PEA, Willian. Far more sensible than my team 😂 😂.

I agree about the blend of George and Arsene SY mate, when Arsene added to George's foundations we saw organisation and beauty come together to give us our golden era.

Towards the end George became to obsessed with not conceding and created a sterile Arsenal devoid of any flare and eventually it got to the point where he had to bring back Paul Davis a player he'd swore he'd never played again just to create some opportunities for Wrighty to score.
Arteta is at the beginning where George was at the end.
If your going to be boring boring Arsenal you simply have to be winning and challenging for fans to put up with and accept it.

I’m not sure GG would have been suckered into that Leicester goal. At least be good at being boring 😂 😂 😂

Wenger relied on intelligent players and leaders. Galas was never a leader nor was Sol after he ran off during that West Ham game. Every style relies on something - Wenger signed the wrong players for his winning style and actually thought Barca-lite was the future. He could have been right but Barcelona did it with world mass players and leaders. I’m hoping Arteta is on a journey towards his style and he’s over compensating for our previous issues which is understandable. I’m interested to see how he corrects our current direction as that will determine the blend. The bookends are Wenger’s worst ill disciplined attack minded sides and Graham’s mind numbing boring sides. GG did play some nice football let’s be fair to him. I’d like a 60% AW 40% GG blend with a couple of Adams, Keown and Paddy type leaders in the team to keep the players and managers honest. Plus ensure we keep a winning mentality and stand up to either the manager or players if we start drifting. That’s a lot to ask from a young inexperienced coach who is now responsible for all footballing matters with king Edu.

You can’t argue with Keene’s statement when he picked Utd’s best 11

Keane responded: “Yeah, you don’t win league titles by having choirboys in your dressing room and all these boys did challenge the manager in different ways. ”

“This team, I felt like they were all very good characters. They could play when teams wanted to play, and if teams wanted to fight us they’d fight with the best of them. ”

Arteta needs to get that balance in the side and for a young manager, that’s tough.

But will Wilock be effective in Artetas premier league caution first Arsenal?,
Against Dundalk we were always going to be braver and more adventurous no matter who played but against United away in the premier league?

Is it really a personel issue or management issue in the league?
