Early in the season so no need to be overly concerned by yesterday's performance, as long as it was just an anomaly and not a classic papering over the cracks. However what was a concern is the number of passes we are having to make just to get the ball in the opposition half, not even the final third. Frequently yesterday I counted double figures of passes being made to get absolutely nowhere. This just encourages the other team to press, as making that many passes in our own half just gives the opposition incentives to try and intercept. Yes we need a decent strong CDM, but we also need to either get the ball up the pitch quicker, or we need forward players dropping deeper to help bring the ball out.

{Ed047's Note - I think when you are a work in progress that’s going to happen.

It’s just going to be great to see what happens in the last weeks of the window and then how the season goes.

It’s a big one next Monday!

Exactly, we were playing for opponent to press, but WHU didn’t do that. I think it’s was their game plan. For these situations, we need creativity and that’s what our midfield is lacking. I don’t know who we are planning to buy, but a creative midfielder is an absolute necessity.
