I was of the opinion that we probably should sell Lacazette to raise the funds needed to enable us to go get the midfielders that we are targeting.

This was based on the fact that we probably could sell him for a decent fee, and that we have Eddie, Saka and Martinelli all waiting in the wings to play, and that Aubameyang probably should play through the middle.

However, I have completely changed my mind and now think he needs to be kept at all cost, and I think any benefit of signing a Partley type player in midfield would be more than offset losing Lacca.

The game against Fulham just reminded me what a good forward player he is, and while they were poor, we all know Lacca is more than capable of playing well against the top teams as well, and scoring important goals in big games.

In addition his strength of holding the ball and ability to then link up with others is very underrated IMO, which he does much better than Aubameyang in the CF role.

It's going to be a long season, and so Eddie and the others will still get plenty of games, but if we have any ambition to win cups, and finish in the top 4, you need your strongest team playing most games, and that includes Lacazette as our main forward, not Eddie IMO.

If we could raise funds elsewhere which enables us to sign the sort of CM we desperately need then I couldn't agree more. That would also allow Lacazette to stay further forward rather than dropping deeper to help with the build up play. I like Laca a lot and he's publicly stated that he's happy at the club. Also, his bond with Auba makes his importance to the squad all the more vital.

However.

If serious interest were to be shown and an offer for say 50m came in, I honestly don't think we can reject it. We desperately need the funds from a financial perspective and I do believe that we aren't getting the very best out of Auba by playing him on the wing. He's been outstanding don't get me wrong but I prefer him through the middle. We do have adequate cover in wide positions so if the money is right, i'd stand by that decision too.
