Lastest on SSN tonight:

Lille have told Sky Sports News that three clubs have met their asking price for their Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes, with those sides believed to be Arsenal, Everton and Napoli.

Lille says that the player will decide his future this week and then a deal will be finalised with his chosen club.

Arsenal are in the market for a left-footed central defender. If Gabriel arrives, then Arsenal would have eight central defenders in their squad.

David Luiz has signed a one-year extension, while Pablo Mari and William Saliba have recently joined the club.

Rob Holding, meanwhile, has three years remaining on his deal, and those four are expected to be who Arteta chooses from next season.

Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis have entered the final year of their deals - and there are no signs that their contracts will be renewed at this stage. Calum Chambers has two years left and his versatility could yet see him play a role.

{Ed047's Note - so, you want him or not?

I think the partnership of Saliba and Mari has a lot to offer but with GM as well, it would make is so much stronger in defence. So yes of course because its an exciting signing.

However, with the amount of CBs we have I don't think its wise to keep adding to that pile, especially when we're so weak in the middle. We get dominated in the middle of the park and don't provide the back line with enough protection. If we could resolve that issue then I think Saliba and Mari with Luiz and Holding as backup would be absolutely fine to improve and make real progress next season.

What are your thoughts Ed mate?

{Ed047's Note - I guess a lot is dependent on who actually leaves Glenn, the addition of Partey would be the real big plus but we need a few CB’s to go but finding buyers will be the problem, that and Mustafi’s injury as he’s not even scheduled to return to full training until October.

I’ve seen nothing of GM until the links and not even really heard of him so can’t really say much about him but it appears he’s a real talent.

I like the idea of Mari and Saliba but get the feeling Arteta will stick with Luiz for a while.

It sure does mate. We have too many players to try and move on that's its not possible in one window, especially when the players who are actually likely to leave are players like Laca, Guendouzi and AMN and not the players we really need off the books.

I'm confident that we can raise the funds to make a move for Partey and that would be a fantastic signing. If we could make that work, I'd be confident in saying that the back 4 will instantly improve with him in our midfield and with the new defenders we already have.

I think it really goes down to what formation we play too. If Arteta sticks with a back 3 then Saliba Mari and Luiz would be okay with holding and Chambers as backup, IF they can stay fit and that's a big IF.

{Ed047's Note - we seem to have had big ifs for ever mate, it would be great though if we could move a few on and get Partey and GM.

We can then maybe see, this coming season what Arteta is all about.🤞

I agree mate, I agree. Jeez if we could pull off both of those transfers then I'd be more than happy. That would be a window targeting key issues and regaining some balance for sure. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻.

Wouldn't mind if we continue with 3 at the back until we shift our CB glut and play Luiz in CDM for a while. Sokratis and Chambers really need to go if they want regular football, and if I were Holding I'd be looking to the same at the likes of Brighton, West Ham, Newcastle etc. That leaves Luiz, Saliba, potentially GM, Marí, and Mustafi. Enough cover for a back 3, and enough for a back 4 if Luiz moves up the pitch.
